Not to put words in his mouth, but he answered this in another thread. The company he works for (Blue Shift) does not so the rosters, that's all VC, so he has no idea.

Appreciate it, hugo...

Where did that rumor come from that we'd have one upon the game's release?

Rumor, who knows? Aren't roster d/l's always rumored or promised to come on or right after release?

Also, apparently in the great Sega tradition, online play will only support the out-of-the-box rosters.

So for me anyway, roster d/l's are of minor importance, unfortunately.

And I seem to get the impression that the rosters out-of-the-box are particularly screwy. Any input on that, AJ? (I'm on the fence about this game.)

It depends on what team. The Red Sox roster is quite accurate except for Kevin Millar having a different name and completely different body type (was it neccessary to make him skinny?).

However, the Orioles for instance seem to have an awful default roster, particularly their lineup. I don't know what they were thinking with the batting order and no Palmiero? Also, I noticed Ponson for some reason doesn't throw nearly as hard as he does in real life.

Thanks for the info, Parker. So Palmeiro's not even on the O's? Or is he there, just not in the default line-up?

Sportdan I think was mentioning a bunch of unknown, made-up players on the Cards roster. That's troublesome.

I guess I'm not too much concerned with the cosmetic aspects of the rosters (although Ponson being a different type of pitcher than he is IRL is far from cosmetic I guess), but more with players being on the right teams, or big-name players like Kaz Matsui (big in japan anyway, and lots of hype and excitement here in Mets-land) being in the game at all.

If online supported updated rosters (see NHL Rivals to get a sense of how this should be done), then I wouldn't worry a nit about it. As it is, I want some head to head play, and my patience for inaccurate rosters only goes so far, and is wearing thinner and thinner the more games come out that support updated/modified rosters for online play.

Well, I don't think the cpu would change their roster for an exhibition game, but there was no Palmiero in the game I played against the Os using a right handed pitcher. He must be on the bench though, there is no reason why he wouldn't be on the team.

As far as Ponson, I think I faced him twice, and he never threw harder than 91, when in real life he is regularly 95 and above.

Palmeiro is there. He came into a game I played as a defensive replacement. Segui got the start at 1b. I thought they started Segui because I had C.C. Sabathia (a lefty) starting. Maybe he starts against rightys?

Rosters are good for the Cubs, except for one guy I never heard of in the bullpen...the White Sox have a couple guys like that in their bullpen as well. Both lineups are a little screwy (Patterson batting 7th, Carlos Lee batting 2nd?).

Was hoping for a roster update before I started my franchise, but whattya gonna do.

For those on the fence, this game comes with the highest recommendation from me. Great stuff, with just about all of the gameplay aspects you could hope for, and I've played them all this year.

hey aj, i remember your posts from when i used to browse sr. i remember you were a big hh fan; right now i have high heat 2004 and none of this year's games. i'm thinking of picking up espn. if you don't mind, how does the gameplay (specifically hitting and pitching) compare to hh? how are the "extras?" have you tried it online? thanks.

Lazy-

With my experiences so far, ESPN has been the way to go this year and is very comparable to the depth of the HH legacy. I get a HH feeling from the gameplay, especially the pitcher/batter interface...

Hitting, like HH, is done the way it should be...you aim your bat where the pitch is, not where you want to hit it, a la MVP (I never understood this method)...

Gameplay is very solid: walks, steals, hits and run...etc.

I think it actually surpasses HH in extras and if online play gets smoothed over (havent tried it, supposedly there are problems with disconnects) this could be a classic.

I've been very satisfied with it so far, and anyone that puts an emphasis on realistic gameplay, this is the game to get this year.
