Buq/Glitch Question for FatP or any other ESPN Developer
On the OS site several people have mentioned the following 2 bugs. I was wondering, if they are in fact true, if there was going to be a patch or fix on either the PS2 (before it's released) or XBox version.
The following are 2 posts concerning each bug (there are more posts about these but I just wanted to show an example of each) that I have copied and pasted.
Bug 1:
"I just want to confirm that the game scoring a run when a guy from third crosses the plate and they throw out the runner out first does in fact happen. I've replicated it 5 times in a row. If you want to see it happen use the situational mode and just set it so there's 2 outs and a man on 3rd. Happens everytime....This is just sad I was having so much fun with the game till I saw this. How the hell could this pass testing!!!"
Bug 2:
"I just found one that bothers me...but not enough to ruin the game for me. Man on first. I work the batter to a 2-2 count. I figure the speedy runner on first might be going, so I toss over there. I throw the ball away and the runner advances. When the batter steps back into the box...the PA announcer announces him as if he is starting his at bat AND the count resets to 0-0! I duplicated the scenario and it happened again."
Thanks in advance.

Well Bug 2 is not going to happen nearly as much as Bug 1 and Bug 1 is definitely the one I'm most concerned with.
Obviously games can and have been patched over Xbox Live you just have wonder if something like this can be fixed with a simple patch that we can download.
It's very unfortunate that something like this slipped through testing and I do hope they can fix it.

Well I can confirm that I've never had the run crossing the plate/3rd out bug happen. I even checked for it because I saw that thread. Just last night I had a guy cross the plate at home before the out and it didn't register the run.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Maybe I'm the King of Sweden.
I guess all we can hope for is a patch because this is as bad a bug that I have seen in any baseball game this year. This, as much as I really like ESPN, is a game killer unless they fix it.
Scoop: go into Situation mode. Set it to 2 outs, man on 3rd. Do a squeeze play or something. It happens every time. I can easily see how this could happen and happen often enough to drive someone nuts. On a long fly ball with 2 outs? If the game scores that run...broken game.

OK boys something is up. Here's what I saw today:
Go into Situation mode, run the test, and the game messes up the scoring.
I just played a game in 2 player mode (not situation) and loaded the bases with two outs. Doing some handy gamepad work, LOL, I had the batter bunt, the runner try to steal home and then switched pads and tossed the runner out at first base. The runner had definately crossed home plate before the out was made and the game did not count the run.
Now, color me confused. This bug does NOT happen every time. I do not know if this is an issue with Situation mode or the fact that the bases were loaded or the fact that it was a 2 player game. But in this case, the game scored it right. More testing is definately needed here.

Indeed. I am sitting firmly on the fence abut buying this one and eagerly anticipate any future report on this potential problem.Bill_Abner wrote: More testing is definately needed here.
Positive early feedback was piquing my interest for Sega baseball. I need a game that plays well online (reports are still mixed on that aspect), and obviously a game that plays by the rules of baseball.
I look forward to the results of more testing; this needs to get sussed out. It's beyond a 'game killer' for me. If it's only an issue in situation mode, then, whatever. But if it rears up in regular gameplay, even if only occasionally, I couldn't abide it.

We can rule out the bases loaded thoery. I ran the test again in 2 player mode with 2 outs and a man on 3rd and the game scored it properly. Guy bunted and the runner was home way before the out was made. No run scored. Maybe this is a bug in situation mode or it only works right in 2 player mode? More to come...

Bill_Abner,
Is there a way to set the game up as 2 player, get the bases loaded, then switch the team on offense to CPU controlled and see what happens? Just thinking over here.
I will say this, on one post on OS a guy said that the run scored and counted as the game cut away to the next inning, but when his pitcher got to the mound at the beginning of the next half inning the score corrected itself, no problem. However, the big problem he said he ran into was when it happened at the end of the game when there wasn't a "next" inning. He said he went into the last inning tied 1-1, the scoring glitch happened and the game ended 2-1. Maybe it only happens in this situation, at the end of a game.

Good news good news.
I played an inning of 1 player game just now. I was pitching and made sure the CPU reached 3rd with 2 outs. I got lucky that the hitter slapped a grounder to Larkin and I held the ball a few extra moments so that the CPU runner could "score" and fired to first for the 3rd out.
The game scored it properly.
So, we can rule out the bases loaded theory, and the 2 player only theory. Has anyone seen this bug occur in anything other than situation mode? I haven't.

So far it's sounding like it's only a problem in situation mode, which is fine since situation mode is yet another useless feature added on in an apparent desire to fill more copy space on the back of the box. Or not. Anyway, I have no need for such a feature.
But, this:
But, this:
This is worrisome if true. I would be most grateful to hear what you find out about this type of circumstance, senor Abner.ruiz00tx wrote: I will say this, on one post on OS a guy said that the run scored and counted as the game cut away to the next inning, but when his pitcher got to the mound at the beginning of the next half inning the score corrected itself, no problem. HH2004 on ps2 for sure had this bug. I remember the dicussions about it, and 3do commented on it stating that when there was a hit batsman, a programming flag got switched to on. When this flag was on, this bug would happen. Hitting another batter switched the flag back to off or whatever.
That is all I remember about it

If I remember, HH's problem was stat-only. Occasionally in this situation the runner would get credited for a run scored or the batter would get credit for a RBI... the actual game score wasn't affected.AJColossal wrote:And I couldn't even get it to work in situational mode.
Guess I'll rest easy until the next "game killer" scare...![]()
Hey, didn't HH have this problem a few years back?
Hasnt happened to Me either but I have noticed some stupid AI like the moronic intentional walk and some strange pitching changes.......ScoopBrady wrote:Well I can confirm that I've never had the run crossing the plate/3rd out bug happen. On the bright side Ive seen plenty of Xtra base hits, runners taking the extra base, walks and steal attempts.
I dont like the bat and ball collision detection at all. I dont get why they cant get this right. How hard can it be?
