I don't see how they get in:

New England - Check
Indy - Check
San Diego - Check
Pitt, Cleveland or Cincy - Check

Wild Cards:
Jax - Check

Outside looking in on the last playoff spot:

Pitt, Cleveland or Cincy (who doesn't win the division)
Tennessee
Jets
Buffalo
Houston
Denver

The way I see things, there are a lot of teams out there playing for 1 spot. Like last year, there will be at least one 10-6 team in the AFC denied a playoff spot.
I like NE, SD and IND as locks for playoff spots but I think the Jets can hang with any of those other teams on the list and I think they are better than CLE and CIN. PIT and JAX - they are right there with those teams.

If Favre is anywhere near as good as last year...I agree.

Well one of the AFC north teams HAS to win the division. CLE, CIN or PIT is going to get in. I don't see BALT making any difference there.

I see CLE dropping off from last year, but it's not a given. I see CIN bouncing back from last year, but that's not given either.

I think you're NUTZ if you think JAX is on the same level as the JETS, but that's just my opinion. Personally I think that team is giving INDY a run for their money all year to win that division. And if by chance they do, well INDY would be the WC then.

Call me crazy, but I just think that when it's all said and done Brett wishes he just would have taken the free 20 mill and called it a day.

That would be insane. Henne already has a better arm than Pennington, and he's progressing big time in Dolphins' camp.

Do the Dolphins want any kind of vertical game? Then they better not put Chad Pennington at QB.

Take care,

Why do you say that about Henne? He's outperforming Beck regularly in Dolphins' camp, and all reports I've read coming out of Miami indicate he has a solid chance at supplanting McCown as the starter in the opener.

You do know that the Dolphins as a whole will not be ready to contribute. Why not stick the young QBs in there and let them grow with the rest of the team. I'm VERY against bringing in a VET QB (even McCown) just so the team can win 4 games instead of 2. Just F's up the draft position.

I've got nothing against Henne, and think he's the QB of the future for the Fins. But I think that it's good to have a veteran QB in there so that the rookie QB can learn the system without having to get pummeled every game. And even with drafting Long, the OL is still poor...I'd rather have Pennington getting the crap knocked out of him than Henne.

Who gives a rat's ass about draft position? The day the Bears start tanking it for a better draft pick is the day I turn in my season tickets. If the draft was not such a crap shoot I could see having that mentality but there's no guarantees on any of the draft picks, even the number 1's.

It's a new system for everyone...so the only advantage McCown will have have is the little experience he does have. I'm still all for starting Henne or Beck. McCown hasn't done a damn thing on any other team he's been on...why would he be worth a damn on a crappy Dolphins team.

And I care about draft position because I'm aware that the Dolphins are going to win less than 5 games. Given that statement, I'd rather draft first than 7th. If they were a decent team, I wouldn't care because what's the difference between 10 and 25...there just isn't much.

Without the tearful public ceremony that accompanied his retirement announcement from the Green Bay Packers just 11 months ago, quarterback Brett Favre has told the New York Jets he is retiring.

Maybe I should include him in the Top Liars thread. :D

Seriously, I hope he stays home this time.

This guy will be in an NFL camp in July. Bank on it. Some team will take a chance on him, and he'll be more than happy to oblige.

Brett Favre, the NFL boy who cried, and then cried wolf.

I think it was on Dan Patrick today, but he said Favre was looking at shoulder surgery in the off-season if wanted to play again. If true, this may be the final straw.

Just so long as we don't see the stupid tw*t stood there blarting his eyeballs out again.

Call soccer players soft all you want, but I've never seen one of them crying like a puff stood at a lectern because his career playing a game was over.

Maybe they cry because they'll have to join the rest of us in real life for a start.

Possibly because their tear ducts have dried up from crying over all those hollywood-esque fake injuries they get, trying to draw a penalty.

wouldn't wish to be a Viking fan, at this time.

aside from Favre, i really put this on the Viking organization.

does the term contingency plan mean ANYTHING? Up front, the front-office they knew this may be a possiblity. Yet who is their QB? T. Jackson :?:

they had the chance to target a Colt McCoy in the 2nd/3rd Round. Even pick-up a Derrick Anderson, Brady Quinn, etc.

T Jackson? Difficult to believe 'professionals' are making these decisions

The only player you listed that I would rather have than Jackson is Quinn, and that is only a maybe. Anderson isn't that good, and a rookie McCoy won't get it done either. There aren't a lot of good QBs (read: starting level) they could get who would sign knowing that Favre is their first choice and it won't be final until August at the earliest.

As a Vikings fan, let's just say that I'm dubious this is real. Don't forget that last year he said he wasn't coming back when camp opened and was there for the 3rd preseason game. It's still early.

As someone living in Minnesota who is not a Vikings fan (I don't have a "team") I am just bored of this. I think 75% of this hype is fabricated by ESPN and the other networks. It's not like Favre is scheduling news conferences every day or doing a "decision" style show like Lebron. Not saying Favre is innocent, but this is just getting tired. I think this is just what Packers and Bears fans want. More so Packer fans. The Vikings/Bears rivalry is nothing like the Vikes/ Packers or especially Bears/Packers, but still. With no Favre, this team will NOT make the playoffs. No chance they make the playoffs with T Jack at the helm. Aaron Rodgers is probably a top 3 QB in the league, and the Bears will be a lot better this year. The Vikings are in a lot of trouble with no Favre. If T Jack is QB, this is what I see happening:

AP faces 8 and 9 in the box every week, and is eventually run down and injured
T Jack leads the Nfc in interceptions and is benched by week 10, even though the Vikes are out of playoff contention
The Vikings will again start making threats about needing a new stadium
All the bandwagon fans here will cry and blame Favre
Sidney Rice will be invisible with T Jack throwing to him

I am SO sick of all the bandwagon Vikings fans. They deserve this. What they deserve is to go 1-15 like the Rams, then have the team move to LA. Minnesota is FLYOVER COUNTRY. We can't handle success or a pro team besides the Twins and Wild. Minnesota fans deserve nothing but the worst. This is karma for Green Bay fans. Favre not coming back (if true) will cost this team a chance at the playoffs. The Vikings are the 3rd best team in their division without Favre. Playoffs?! I think I'd consider the Vikings the most boring team in the division without Favre. I'd rather watch Stafford throw bombs to Calvin Johnson than watch T Jack struggle to run the offense, and AP run up the middle for a loss of 1 yard every day.
