Rod.., the one in Pt Charlotte at the intersection of 776 and 41. The manager told me they would probably be open for a couple of months. They had no competition here, for there is no Best Buy here (which surprises me...we're not that small??) I do feel bad for those that will be losing thier jobs..and 35,000 nationwide. And all props to the manager I dealt with tonite. The kid is probably the same age as my son,yet had more concern with those that would be laid off. He was very professional. Pretty tough knowing your on a short leash.Rodster wrote:Sounds like it worked out for you Snaz. Which CC did you deal with, the one in Port Charlotte or Ft. Myers?
Circuit City going belly-up

Your Dad should be fine. Are Circuit City's extended warranties affected by the liquidation?
* No. Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City's closing.
It is a liquidation sale, which apparently starts today. Meaning that most product will be raised in price, almost all new product at MSRP or higher. The deals in liquidation sales usually do not start happening for weeks or months.Rodster wrote: I was there looking for videogame deals on Thursday.
I've been playing around with the iTunes remote app. I have an old set of powered speakers I'm not using. If I get an Airport Express, I can just put on anything in my library as long as I'm within Wifi range.fsquid wrote:should have gone for the Ipod Touch.
Yeah there are some intriguing apps., especially those which use GPS. There are apps. which will find movie theaters near where you are, restaurants, or track how much you hike (Nike kit might be better for workouts). Best of all, geotagging photos you take.
Yeah I swung by Sunday, which I think was just one day after they announced the liquidation.
Place was full and they only opened one door. The shelves were a mess and there were long lines in the checkout stands.
But 10% just isn't that great a savings.
I was looking at some dual-bank gigabit routers with 802.11n. Even with 10%, you pay more than online.
So maybe at 30% of or so. But of course, they might not have any inventory left.

Agreed, especially when most liquidation sale prices are increased to MSRP before discounts are applied. So a 10-percent discount from MSRP is comparable to everyday prices before liquidation, especially online as WCO said.wco81 wrote:But 10% just isn't that great a savings.
Liquidation sales are conducted to generate as much profit as possible under the guise of great deals for the customer. Caveat emptor.
Take care,

Caveat emptor indeed. My local CC has also been swarming with activity since the announcement. I looked around and there are pretty much no super deals to be had, just the aforementioned 10% off MSRP. Yet people are running thru there like it's Christmas.
My workout schedule usually takes me right by there a couple of days a week, so I'll keep checking it out to see if they eventually slash the prices to where there are actually "deals" to be had. I'm hoping to eventually get some deals on the PC games / hardware available as they have been virtually untouched thus far.

Caveat emptor, which is Latin for "people are f*cking morons with their money."Rodster wrote:I was reading over at cheapassgamer.com that some lady bought a DVD player with 10% off. When she got home it was broken. She took it back to the store looking to get an exchange and they pointed to her receipt which says "all sales final".

Software and games are up to 40% off at my store. I'm not sure what this says about the price of games, the economy, or both but just about any game I could think of was still available. As a Mac user, I'm considering picking up a version of Windows just in case there's something down the road I want, but since they had plenty of copies left I may wait for 50 or 60% off.
