I picked it up at Circuit City after work along with the $10 giftcard.

I'm pretty impressed so far.

He's the game seller in my opinion, for me at least. But if its a boxing game thats actually good, I see no way I wouldnt buy it. But if its garbage and it doesn't have Hopkins, definite no.

If Hopkins isn't in it, who is??? Does it have James Toney, Floyd Mayweather, Juan Manuel Marquez, Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, Cory Spinks, Acelino Frietas, or Diego Corales???
Bernard is indeed in the game. James Toney, J M Marquez, Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, are in the game.

Complete list is here.

Missing some fighters who were once in knockout kings, but some good boxer's nevertheless.

I just played my first online game and it was very smooth and responsive. This game really is alot of fun and does require smart boxing tactics to win. I can't wait to get some serious play-time on this game this weekend.

Unlock all venues

Post by Toper »

Just wanted to pass along a code I saw:

Code to Unlock all the Venues in EA SPORTS Fight Night

On the Main Menu, select My Corner and enter the code below (without moving the highlight bar):

Left, Left, Left
Right, Right, Right
Left, Right, Right

Thanks Toper ! That worked. Although I am a tad dissapointed in the lack of Arenas... :-( It's not horrible but I wish there were more. BUT, the ones that are there are really done very well. Great lighting.

Impressions soon...

I haven't won a career mode fight yet! It took me a few fights to get used to the "vision alignment" so that hurt me in the beginning. I am playing on Medium. I did knock someone down last fight and lost by spit decision so I'm making progress.

Any tips (especially concerning defense, combos, and the use of R1)?

They thought of everything. Just kidding....Curious to hear more about the single player experience. Does it have that lasting appeal as well as increased difficulty?

I am suprised I like this game so much so far, i've started a career and am 2-0 (both by KO) and the make your own boxer has a lot of visual options to pick from...the boxer I made looks a lot like me in fact.

Counter punching is where it's at plus being able to be defensive. I countered a miss last night with a beautifully timed hook that KO'd the other guy with one punch. ( the red guage was damn near full at the time on the other boxer) It looks like this wont happen often though which is good.

So far, i'm having a blast and my son who has those quick young reflexes hasnt beat me yet due to the fact he playes too aggressive and does not set up punches or play defense that hard and he has paid for it. I don't think you can be a button masher.

So are most of you playing with the Total Punch Control system or have you switched the control setup to use the buttons to throw punches?

Recalling the pictures thread, I can see this being a likely possibility.

8O :P :D

Kidding aside, keep the impressions coming. I'm on the fence on this purchase.

Impressions after an hour or so playing exhibition matches:

X-Box version…

Keep in mind I am no boxing aficionado (and might be missing some key points here), but this game really improves upon the basics of boxing (at least from the last incarnations or the Knockout Kings series). So far, the game seems to really punish you if you play with an all out offensive strategy. And I mean REALLY punish you. I played a few matches in the Heavyweight division and got just pummeled when I tried to swing wildly. Really had to rethink the way I approached this game (which is good).

Couple of nitpicks right off the bat, why can’t we grab and hold anymore in boxing games (I know one of the Knockout Kings version had this)??? I am not sure if there is a more official word for this but I am referring to when the boxers get tangled for a breather. I mean, it’s a pretty big part of boxing (like walks in baseball) and I don’t think it’s in there (PLEASE tell me if I am missing something). The other thing that I don’t really like is the knockdown animations. They are goofy looking for lack of a better term.

Anyway, the game plays so much better already than previous attempts. I can already tell there is a better balance between boxers (which frustrated me in the last couple versions). I like the total control swinging but it definitely will take some getting used to. What is SO great is that there are 6 different controller configurations to choose from so you can really find one that suits you just right. They give you the choice of using the total control swing AND have the buttons there for the swinging if you need them. Very cool.

I did not play any Career mode so I cannot comment on that. I will be playing with my girlfriend and her son tonight so I will get a good dose of multiplayer (where I can see this game having a huge potential to shine).

Graphics are typical EA. Great animations, great lighting, good choice of camera angles, ect…

Sound is good but the announcer seems to be the same cat from EA BIG’s NBA Street 2 !?!?! Kind of annoying but I guess it is less bland than standard commentary. The hits and atmosphere sound is great though.

All in all I can definitely see the improvements right off the bat, and regardless of what anyone else says, it is very obvious that EA has taken the series in a much more realistic direction. I really don’t see how that can be argued. It is perfect, probably not, but it is without a doubt more ‘sim’ like than before.

I can answer questions if needed and will try to post more detailed impressions tonight after a few more games!

I'm definitely using the Total Punch Control system , finding it very intuitive and fun to use. As for some of the KO animations, I find most really fun to watch on replay and it's fricken hilarious sometimes when they do the jitter-bug or when legs go.

Total punch is cool, IE to throw a right hook you roll the right thumbstick to right and roll outside-up...i like it.

Same here, nothing but Total Control punching. I've never played a game where the controls were so intuitive. I can almost react naturally with this system as opposed to thinking about what button I have to press. This definitely has a virtual reality feel to it - what you do in the real world corresponds to an action in the virtual world.

Spook,

If you're talking about "clinching", then no, it's not in this one (but you are right about it being in one of the prev. KOK, I think it was 2001?).

Anyways, I think it sucks that they took it out, but I can see why they probably did from a "cheesing" standpoint, especially with this game being online now. Sigh, "maybe next year".

What I know is Victorious Boxers 2 doesn't have clinching and it's still one of the most compelling boxing games I have ever played.

I picked this up along with ESPN and it looks promising. However I'm having horrible problems with lockups of my Xbox version. I know it's going to lock up when I finish a bout, the stats screen comes up and my created boxer's name is not shown. The music then stutters and the game locks.

Anyone having this problem?

Nope..got my copy yesterday and have played about 4-5 hours and about 4 career matches using a created boxer and have not had a single lockup. Yours is actually the first I have heard of locking up.

General strategy question

Post by TrojanMan »

Are you guys using the blocking and the leaning/weaving for defense? Or are you using both? I imagine the blocking probably works better when you're against the ropes, and the weaving is more for when you're in the center of the ring.

Toper, if you're reading this I was able to pick this game up at no charge with the trade in of some old cds I have had laying around for the past 5 years. They weren't doing anything except gathering dust. I really do appreciate your wonderful offer though.

Quick question for those of you enjoying Fight Night. I literally played this game for 10 minutes last night as I was devoting the majority of my time with ESPN baseball. However, what I was attempting to get used to was the different camera angles. I was having trouble finding one that felt comfortable. Which ones are you finding to be the best?

Thanks.
