Fight Night
Anxious to hear thoughts on this. Mine are only single player as i have the XBOX version.
I picked it up last night and played for all of 20 minutes, but i'm intrigued. The animations and blow by blow contact are VERY cool. The Total Control Punching is a little slow but that could be me simply getting used to it. One positive is that there is a controller set up that allows you to use both the buttons AND the right analog, total control, set up so you can practice it.
The boxers look awesome, i have to say. If a guy was/is ripped, he's ripped, if he was a guy built like a brick s***house with no muscle tone, like a Marciano, that's what you get.
My one complaint so far is that i found the side to side movement of my boxer to be a little slow while i found the CPU to be much more fluid, making it hard for me to maneuver away from a beating. Again, this is VERY likely because i haven't had more time with it. Although the bob and weave system, when stationary, is very solid.
All in all, i'm pleased and expect to have fun with this title. I, as usual, wish it were online for XBOX as i think it will be a great game for those on the PS2 who are awarded this feature. Look forward to all your thoughts.
By the way, there is nothing more fun than taking Roy Jones and tooling up Marco Antonio Barerra. (yes, i did this! because after getting my arsh handed to me five times by fellow heavies, i needed to make myself feel better before i went to bed)

I played the PS2 demo and plan on picking this game up tonight after work. I had a question on the side-to-side movement. In the demo, pushing up and down on the left analog stick moved your fighter closer and further away from your opponent and pushing the left analog stick left and right handled the side-to-side movement. Is there an option to switch these settings? For someone that has played alot of fighting games (eg Virtua Fighter and Tekken), these controls are backwards and hard to get used to used.
Thanks
Jason

Jason,
Even though i despise your logo (Sox fan here), i will answer.
I had the same issue and finally noticed in the menu that it can be adjusted. Under controller options, the two options are something like Boxer View movement and Camera View movement (may have the actual names incorrect, but it's clear when you get in the menu screen). You will select Camera View and he will move according to what you're used to.

I picked up the Xbox version yesterday, and had a night to mess with the game with a group of friends. Firstly, the game is an absolute blast mulitplayer. The total punch control is done very well IMO. It takes some time to get use to it at first, but overall, I was able to do whatever I wanted, when I wanted.
The bobbing, dodging and weaving, is done well It really feels and looks good when you sway out of an incoming punch. The blocking is is a breeze and easy to do. The control one has over the boxers makes this game a chess match when you get the handle of the control system. You block a jab or a straight, it leaves your opponent open for a counter.
A couple of friends of mine picked up the game really quickly and it was in no time that they were waiting for the punch just to block it so they could get in a counter blow/series of blows. When one gets enough dexterity to pull off combo punch's, the results can be devastating to your opponent and good on the eyes as well.
Graphically the game is done well IMO, I mean, Roy is Roy, Lennox looks like Lennox, the size difference between boxers is very evident. The blood, bruise, and cut effects are done well, if not a bit over exaggerated. The knockouts are great, and when around a bunch of people, always seem to get some sort of reaction. Maybe a tad overdone, but again, it really does a good job of getting the point across.
Overall, this game is fun to me and my group of gaming friends, but again, it was only one night of gaming. I'd definitely suggest this one for the ps2/online folks as the thought of kicking the sh*t outta a fellow DSP'er
could be attrative
Anyhow, if anyone has any questions, just fire away...

Just had a great first fight. I chose Chris Byrd because I fully intend on actually boxing online, not just going for knockouts in the first round. If people can't accept this fact, I will just dodge and weave for 12 rounds.
Anyway, I largely executed the same plan that worked for Byrd against Holyfield in their fight. It would have worked, but since I am still new to the game, and because Holyfield appears to have the punching power of early in his career, I didn't quite make it through 12 rounds despite the fact that I won 7 of the rounds before I was knocked out. The scoring is great in this game, just enough variety and unpredictability in the judges.
But why oh why, does it have to have that ridiculous announcer and rap theme. Is this an EA Sports game or EA Big game? It's a shame because the boxing is now realistic enough to be an EA Sports title. Maybe next year they will come to their senses and get some broadcast-style commentators.

I'm probably gonna go with the xbox version for this one. But my friend will get it for ps2, so I'll try to check out online on his setup.
Thanks,

Is Bernard Hopkins in the game???
He's the game seller in my opinion, for me at least. But if its a boxing game thats actually good, I see no way I wouldnt buy it. But if its garbage and it doesn't have Hopkins, definite no.
If Hopkins isn't in it, who is??? Does it have James Toney, Floyd Mayweather, Juan Manuel Marquez, Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, Cory Spinks, Acelino Frietas, or Diego Corales???
