That was a cool little idea EA had releasing those. Too bad the Andy Townsend and Clive Tyldesley one isn't free. Still, a pretty cool idea if you ask me(which you didn't).
Didn't know that there was that option. Gotta try, how do you go about it? Any Spanish or Japanese announcers?

I'll probably take the plunge on the Andy and Clive pack. Obviously a bit of rip off, but I just spent $3.50 on a latte' so it's all relative I guess.

Patch is up on xbox live.

haven't seen any major changes to the gameplay yet - do wish they'd introduce variable weather, night games, and improved roster management in Manager Mode!

Best wishes,

I'm pretty convinced at this point that there's a definite super keeper problem when it comes to longer shots that I'd like to see fixed. I've seen far too many blazing shots headed for the upper 90 only to see some lower division 65-rated GK turn into Spider Man and swat it away miraculously.

Rob,

I'm finding the AI a little to vulnerable to breakaways - I score the majority of my goals on these with Liverpool. I'd expect teams, when faced with a powerful opponent, would play their defenders deeper so as not to get caught on the break - particularly when facing a fast skilled striker. I haven't tried to mess around with the other teams default tactics though.

Agree on the super keepers - they should tone them down even at the cost of poor teams being less competitive.

Best wishes,

Doug

If online is any indication playing deeper helps a bit, but not entirely. The problems are two-fold. First, defenders get stuck in a ball watching animation on through balls in the air. This costs them badly considereing that they're already giving up pace to the strikers. Secondly, as much as the physical play has improved, it's still too hard for a large player to knock down a speed one.

The ball watching defenders on high through balls may be a bit better after the patch - haven't played enough yet to tell definitively yet.

So just got the game, jumped into the OTP games right away.

Some great moments in the first few games. Scored the only goal as Aderbayor (Arsenal vs. Villareal), then two as Drogba (Chelsea vs Man U).

Then in a 2 vs. 2 game, Liverpool vs. Barca, I scored one with Eto and then forced a save with Eto which created an easy rebound for Xavi.

Then the f***er who was the captain took out Eto and I scored one with Bojan who replaced Eto. Then the mother****** took Bojan out for Jorquera who had no god damn pace.

Don't matter, I'm a prolific SOB.

On PS3, right? It's a shame you can't join us on 360. Playing with 3-4 guys whom you know is the absolute best.

Yup PS3.

I didn't find it as easy to finish in more recent games as in the early ones.

I better study this stuff some more:

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but you guys might want to set crosses to "assisted" in the main setup. I believe it's the only option that is set to "semi?" by default. I know that people have complained about the ineffective crosses - and once I tried this, things improved drastically.

Been meaning to post this crazy goal for awhile.

This man is a geometric genius able to dive away from the goal but head the ball into the goal!

Now that's a nice goal.

FIFA continues to eat up 95% of my sports gaming time. It's clearly the GOY for me.

I took the plunge and bought my annual "video game of a sport I know nothing about the strategies for". Usually it's a basketball game, but this year I picked FIFA.

I am definatly still learning (i.e. I still suck) but if you need a pylon in the DSP club, someone fire me an invite. I might suck, but at least I'm funny!(looking)

A question. I assume to get the latest squad updates it's the old "start an online game and back out" trick? I did that and ended up with a loadable squad file on the hard drive, so I assume it's an updated one.

I have the Adidas Live season thing for the Premier, but I belive that just handles form, correct?

I see no other "download squads" option, though it may be my stupidity kicking in.

Another question on aiming.

I'm playing across the screen, so the goals are on the left and right. Now, how do I aim my shots?

Say i'm going to the right, would the stick pointing Lower Right give me a shot to the Upper right corner of the net?

To hit a low shot, do I need to flick the stick "away" from the goal going side to side?

Just wondering because I just played a game and missed the net a ton! and I think it's because my pea brain doesn't know how to aim.

It's as much the game as your aim, most likely. Aiming is relative to the screen, so if you're standing at a near post "up" on the joystick would aim toward the far post. But as I said, missing by a lot is often a matter of shooting without settling the ball, shooting with the wrong foot or taking a shot from a difficult position or with a poor shooter as well.

I figured it was more me then the stick, but I wanted to check it out.

so, going side to side, to show low on net, i'd pull the stick away from the net, correct?

My first impressions of Fifa were completely mixed when I picked it up after Christmas.

I really liked the physics and the organic feel...and the game felt so alive.

I put all my settings at manual, as was recommended....and struggled mightily.

The biggest problem I had was with passing.....using the x button was near impossible on short passes...the ball kept rocketing by my intended players.

I was ready to shelve the game, when I decided to use the "y" button....which is for through balls...and was told useless when using manual passing.

The difference has been exceptional...I can now control length and speed of passes which makes linking passes so much easier.

I still have a few issues with super defenders taking the ball away from me, but I am improving on the as well. I need to learn to shield better.

On 15 minute halves, I am giving up an average of 14 shots..so my D is improving.

I still don;t create as many chances as I would like....but I am doing well on the professional level with my Fulham.....5 wins, 2 losses and 5 draws so far.

I love how goals are hard to come by...I really feel like I am playing in the prem with the majority of the battles taking place in the midfield. This is a much more difficult game than my beloved Pro Evo 2007 on the PS2.

I really have to concentrate to have succes when I play...it is a full mental effort...any distractions and I am toast...I like that...but it is taxing at times....after one game I feel like In have played 3.

I have not tried online yet...not sure I will unless Jimmy D and I get out from under our prospective rocks.

All in all, I have to say I am really enjoying Fifa right now, and it is something I look forward to playing every night when I get the chance.

Me too in exhibition, not so much in manager mode.

We need to hook up mate maybe some old school prem matchups like we used to do with pro evo.

Most frustrating thing for me is defending the headers in the box most times its none existent unless you get lucky with your positioning.
Dont ask a computer controlled Carragher to beat Yukubu in the air once never mind 50% of the time.

But over all im not issing Pro evo at all , at times and especially when i tweaked the formations the game is brilliant.

They ever solve the long shooting issue! That was a game killer for me. Too hard to score for the CPU and myself from any distance.
