Syracuse finally gets rid of Robinson and Paul isn't in here yelling it from the rafters? I'm surprised.
In other news, Notre Dame escapes back-toback loses to Navy by the skin of their teeth. If Weiss' contract wasn't completely absurd the boosters would have his ass out of there by now - instead haters like me get to enjoy the extended irrelevancy!

I think my lack of commentary is a telling statement on the state of Syracuse football. Nobody around here really gives much of a sh*t about it anymore, such has been the decay the last four years.
This firing was one year overdue. And plus we've heard the same song and dance before from SU AD Dr. Daryl "Mr. Bojangles" Gross, so anyone who believes Gross will make a better hire this time because, as he says, "he knows Syracuse" better is almost as moronic as Gross.
SU will hire the guy with the best pedigree, networking skills or make a politically correct choice since that's how Gross and ultra-PC SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor roll.
The housecleaning should have swept Gross out with Robinson, as Chimpo -- as one irate SU fan called him on the syracuse.com forums earlier this season -- is as much or more of a problem as Robinson, who is a nice guy but utterly inept as a head football coach.
The leading candidates are Randy Edsall of Connecticut, Skip Holtz of East Carolina and Lane Kiffin, formerly of the Raiders. Edsall is the obvious connection because of his SU connections, but he supposedly wants $17 million over eight years.
Randy Edsall is NOT worth $17 million over eight years. Guiding UConn out of the I-AA wilderness into a solid program does not make him worth that kind of money. He's a good coach, but I don't think SU should get roped into such a big, long-term deal.
Kiffin would be a mistake. He's a West Coast guy, like Robinson and Gross, and their ineptitude and lack of understanding of Eastern football and upstate N.Y. fans are obvious. We don't need another.
I know little about Holtz other than he has a famous last name, which will appeal to Gross, who never met a photo op or ribbon-cutting ceremony that he didn't skip to concentrate on real work.
Gross also made noise about going after Mike Leach at Texas Tech. That's f*cking hilarious. As if Mike Leach is going to leave a top-10 team in talent-rich Texas for this trainwreck of a program and athletic department.
Edsall probably will be the guy, and SU will overpay to get him. The potential is limitless for Edsall even if he has limitations as a head coach. Nine wins in four years by Robinson sets up Edsall for nothing but success.
Take care,
PK

I might be available, for the right price. 9 wins over 4 years sounds do-able, and I've played NCAA Football, so I know all about recruiting players. I also like the sound of the bit about missing real work...
I'd also like to think that my British origins would add the note of class which would do well on the East Coast....though I would have to practice my 1000 variations on "no, I don't think I know your Auntie Mabel who lives in Penzance...".
I'm polishing my resume, and would only have to give 3 months notice, so I can be in place for next season !!
Fingers crossed !!

Three months is too long, mate. Sorry. You'll miss out on recruiting all of the fourth-rate rejects from high school football hotbeds such as Central New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
I knew Robinson was f*cked in the second year of his tenure when he told the SU student newspaper, The Daily Orange, that he didn't need to recruit Florida or Texas because he could win with kids from the Northeast.
Robinson's predecessor, Paul Pasqualoni, recruited talent-rich California, Texas and Florida hard. Even though he only got sloppy seconds and warmed-over thirds from those regions, most of those kids were much better football players than anyone from the Northeast and New England.
Pasqualoni also owned Connecticut recruiting, since that's his home state, and he had a firm grip on New Jersey, too. Both of those beachheads have been surrendered to UConn and Rutgers, respectively, during the Robinson era.

This is not about CFB but more about college recruiting.
Here is a story for you PK... I love it and tell it whenever I get the chance.
My brother-in-law (bil from here on) is a yankee from jersey. He was a swimmer in the early 80s and was being recruited by a few schools. He eventually committed to Syracuse sometime in the winter.....
Then, he got a call from the UGA swimming coach. He told the UGA coach that he already committed to Cuse and that he did not want to waste the coach's time. The coach insisted they already had the money for an official visit and he would like him to come down just to enjoy a weekend in Athens.
Well, it was sometime in Feb.... he arrived in Athens on a Friday an on Saturday he was walking around campus. It was pretty warm for Feb in Athens and there were some girls laying around a swimming pool. Once he saw them, he looked over to his coach and said "Okay, I am coming here."
True story - and thats party of what Syracuse has to compete with.

I'm speechless about SU's win over Notre Dame.
When will Fat Boy Charlie Weis get the boot like Robinson? Oh, that's right: It's Notre Dame, so he's a great coach.

Take care,

It's OK. I got another one for you.lexbur wrote:Anyone know if the Wolverines will make it down to Columbus tomorrow? I heard they couldn't get past Toledo.
(Sorry Jackdog and other UM fans, that was a lame cheap shot, I know)
Seriously though, I can't remember when there's been less excitement or hype for the game than this year. Kinda weird.
What does Michigan's Football team have in common with a Tampon??
They both have one string and are only good for one period.
See ya next year! Payback for the last 5 years will be a b*tch!

Yo Lex no such thing as a cheapshot in football.

I'm a Penn State/Big 10 fan and I'll admit the Big 10 has not performed well in high-profile games recently. However, I'm surprised there's not much chatter and complaining about the prospects of seeing Oklahoma get blown out again. They've lost 4 straight BCS games. They got blown out in 2 of them and in the other they managed 154 yards of total offense against LSU despite doing the same thing they did this year during the regular season...racking up impressive lopsided victories in the Big 12...65-13 vs. Texas, 77-0 vs. Texas A&M, 52-9 vs. Okl State, etc.XXXIV wrote:HipE wrote:Can we beat Penn State and save the country from another Big Ten BCS title game blowout?

God Bless Iowa.
Big 12 football is certainly more entertaining than the Big 10, but I have a feeling the results are going to be the same in a championship game against Florida or Alabama. I know the Big 12 has some high profile QBs, but there is absolutely no defense being played in that conference from the games I've seen this year. Why is that? There are wide open receivers running up and down the field and more missed tackles than you should ever see in games involving teams with that much talent.
The thing I like about the SEC is that you can have a good 3-2 game once in awhile

Well, just when you think college football can't get more idiotic, it uses BCS rankings instead of head-to-head to determine who wins a division. Honestly, why do they even bother with divisions if everything is just going to come down to strength of schedule and poll rankings? Just throw everyone into one pool and stop pretending that divisions matter.
This is the second time that the BCS formula has not worked in the case of head-to-head matchups.
Consider that the year Stoops got his championship was the year that FSU lost to Miami but jumped them in the final BCS rankings. Personally, I think that Miami would have been a solid favorite to win over the Sooners based on both talent and coaching. Say what you want about Butch Davis as a pro coach, but he is a very good college coach and that Hurricanes team was loaded on both sides of the ball.
I think that Alabama and Florida could be a very interesting game. Alabama has a big and disciplined defense and has met every challenge so far this year. FSU has talent on defense but considering that the misdirection/option of Georgia Tech confused them, it was no big surprise that Florida moved the ball so easily. Percy Harvin could be the X factor - if his injury does not keep him out.

It was a 3 way tie. Poor Texas Tech just gets dismissed by the Big 12 like the ugly step child.
Oklahoma could always lose to Missouri.
The game Id like to see is USC vs Florida...I mean USC vs the winner of SEC champ game.
One of these days the NCAA will remove its head from up its ass and get a playoff...Not...

Texas Tech didn't deserve to be in the Big 12 title equation after that ass-kicking from Oklahoma and rallying to beat Baylor last weekend.

Taking that further..Oklahoma didnt deserve to be in it cause of that butt kicking Texas gave them on a neutral field.
Still...It is a menage a trois that the BCS should not be deciding.

True, true, 34.
Plus it's NFL Week 13 this weekend, which will be more exciting than any postseason scheme that the drunk godfathers of college football can devise. Can you imagine playing a 12-game regular season in any sport that means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING?
It's like a glorified season of scrimmages, with only booster and alumni pride and player ranking in the NFL Draft at stake.
Take care,
PK

I feel like a playoff system would render the regular season mostly worthless. It works for the NFL but let's face that week 16s and 17s are mostly duds. At least in college football the silly season (M-F) makes it interesting.pk500 wrote:True, true, 34.

The season is already pretty worthless except for two teams. I know bowl games are fun for the fans of those schools, bring in money, and are good recruiting tools, but PK is right, they are glorified exhibition games.JRod wrote:I feel like a playoff system would render the regular season mostly worthless. They could make a 16-team playoff system work if the NCAA really wanted to.
It's the system in play NOW that makes the season pretty much worthless-ask Texas!JRod wrote:I feel like a playoff system would render the regular season mostly worthless.
