What's next on your gaming radar screen?

Post by pk500 »

Fellas:

Just curious: Now that everyone has been somewhat let down by the mediocre lot of North American-released baseball games this year and is enjoying the brilliance of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, what's next on your gaming radar screen? What games are you targeting next for a purchase?

My list, all on Xbox:

April: TOCA Race Driver 2 (hopefully a freebie from Codemasters)

May: IndyCar Series 2005 (hopefully a freebie from Codemasters)

June: Full Spectrum Warrior (I'd pay $100 for this!)

You cats?

Take care,
PK

If ESPN Baseball gets high marks here, it's possible I may possibly purchase this game. Most likely not.

This is the time of year where I go the longest in terms of not buying a game. I've made it a goal only to purchase sports games seeing they are the only ones I really have time to play. Anyways, I'll probably end up waiting for NCAA 2005.

Fight Night 2004
ESPN MLB
Rallisport Challenge 2

The only thing that has me somewhat interested in ESPN Baseball are all the new cpu sliders. But I'm not optimistic about the changes made in the game from beta impressions. Apparantly, the new hitting option is not at all like High Heat, and it's really just a glorified timing option.

I've got a very similar list:

April: TOCA Race Driver 2

May: Indycar 2005 & Rallisport Challenge 2

June: Full Spectrum Warrior & Driver 3

And if their dates hold and they come out this summer: Fable & Starcraft: Ghost

But to be honest, all I really want to play right now is Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. The online multi-player is just brilliant.

With my usual horrible backlog of games, I'm happy to say that there's not much on the radar right now.

I'll be keeping an eye on ESPN, but I'm not optimistic. Other than that, Full Spectrum Warrior is the next must-buy. I'm sure I'm missing something, and it's likely that something will emerge as a sleeper, but in the meantime I've got my hands full with SC:PT, WE7, Combat Mission: Afrika Korps and Silent Storm.

Rallisport is definitely on there. ESPN MLB is too, although I probably won't buy it outright. Full Spectrum Warrior will be a must-buy.

The upcoming months look a little blah to be honest.

EDIT: Forgot about WE7 for the PC, I will definitely pick that one up.

Rallisport 2 and Driver 3 are rentals first for me.

I still haven't dug enough into Colin McRae 04, and it's brilliant. So I think that will satisfy my rally jones. Plus I'll have plenty of great online racing by June with PGR 2, ICS 2005 and TOCA 2, so I'm not really compelled to get RSC 2 due to its head-to-head online rallying, which is an oxymoron, anyways!

I'm not an RPG guy at all, but Fable looks fascinating if designer Peter Molyneux delivers what he's promising. A definite rental.

Take care,
PK

I have a backlog as well. I am trying to finish KOTOR before Fable comes out so that will be a priority this spring.

I will buy ESPN Baseball because I am a sucker. If it sucks, I am all ready to play a season with High Heat and never look back.

I want to put more time into WE7 and CM4 and before I know it the football games will be out. My sister and brother-in-law just go Links so I am enjoying that again on XBL.

Future releases: ESPN Baseball

Currently released: Mototrax for $30, Wakeboarding Unleashed for $20. I feel it is my duty to own Wakeboarding since I do it all summer. I may get NCAA 2004 football once it drops to $20. I can live with last years model since I don't get too deep into college football.

Other: That Yamaha motorcycle controller. hat's my Birthday request :)

Other than that, I'm full. I have lots of baseball and motocross to keep me busy. I still have games like Lknks and PGR2 which have been neglected way too soon.

Pretty much the same as you PK:

Toca RD2,
IndyCar (maybe) and
Full Spectrum.

I am very curious about Fable. If it gets good feedback, I will likely get it. I'm a sucker for games that try unique and new ideas, especially if they work.

Same goes with the new Thief.

Also the upcoming Syphon Filter on PS2 looks like it has potential for some interesting online play, but I will have to wait and see about that one. Splinter Cell really trumps anything online right now. However, SF could be good, as online is all (up-to) 4 player co-op play through the missions. Could be good.

If 989s World Tour Soccer were online, that would be a no-brainer as well. Since it's not, I'll skip it.

Pro Race Driver, IndyCar, Fable, and SC:Ghost are pretty much definites for me.

Rallisport and Full Spectrum Warrior are maybes, but I need to learn more about FSW. Seems like there's a ton of buzz around this game so maybe it will move up for me. Anyone got the lowdown?
but really, this is 2004, and nearly everything is considered to be gay now

One fact about Full Spectrum Warrior: It's not a first-person shooter. It's a real-time tactics game in which you direct your squad to move and fire, but you don't actually pull the trigger.

I think a lot of FPS fans will be disappointed when they unwrap FSW and realize it's a tactics game, not a shooter, per se.

I can't wait for FSW. I love tactical games, which rely on quick thinking and, duh, tactics, more than a testosterone-fueled index finger on the trigger.

Yeah, that's the old man in me ... :)

Out,

I've got an abundance of games on backlog right now. I upgraded my PC to badass proportions so most of these are on PC.

IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles & the Ace Expansion Pack (PC)
Splinter Cell Pandoras Tomorrow (PC)
Saturday Night Speedway (PC)
Flight Simulator 2004 (PC)
PES3 (PC) my personal favorite right now

So basically that's all I've been playing lately since I'm terribly disgusted with the baseball games this year. I'm still playing MLB 2005 to get my fill of baseball until my copy of High Heat 2004 (PC of course) arrives. I'll mod the sh*t out of it and play that this year I guess. I'll pick up ESPN just to see if they can grab me but I'm not counting on it.

So basically I'm contemplating selling both my Xbox and PS2...they just aren't being used right now.

I upgraded all the sh*t on my PC (which was already above avg.) and games just look better and play better on the PC...

I am excited about the new Thief game. I loved the first 2 and despite the fact that Deus Ex Invisible War let me down (Not bad just not incredible) I think that Thief has good potential for both the Xbox and the PC.

I will get ESPN Baseball. I bought and sold MVP and ASB. Might as well go for 3 for 3.

And you know what? Football games are right around the corner! We should start to hear something about NCAA/Madden/ESPN soon.

I am good until the new football titles start showing up in the summer, still have plenty of games from last year to catch up some play time with.

I'll probably pick up ESPN fairly soon after its release, but I'm basically waiting for Full Spectrum Warrior, and am already counting the days until Halo 2. (I've also got my eye out for the Xbox port of Call of Duty.)

I just re-purchased NCAA 2004 to mix things up a bit, and between that, ESPN NFL and Spinter Cell, I'm good to go for the forseable future.

Paul,

Add GTR to your list. It is the FIA GT sim being developed by many of the members of the former SIMBIN team that created the GT mod for F1 2002. They have just announced that they plan to release for both PC and Xbox sometime late summer 2004.
GTR is based on the FIA GT championship, it simulates the greatest supercars in the world racing on some of the worlds most exciting circuits.

- The FIA GT Spa 24H
- up to 56 cars on track (seriously!)
- The most accurate physics taken directly from the data logs of the real cars as they raced on the real circuits to create the most intense racing experience ever.

• 10 tracks, 68 teams + Additional unlockable bonuses.

Car models include

• Ferrari 550 Maranello
• Ferrari 575 GTC
• Ferrari 360 Modena
• Chrysler Viper GTS-R
• Lister Storm
• Lamborghini Diablo GT-R
• Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT
• Saleen S7-R
• Mosler MT900
• Chevrolet Corvette C5-R
• Porsche 993 GT2
• Porsche 996 Turbo
• Porsche 996 GT3-RS
• Porsche 996 GT3 Cup
• Seat Toledo
• Morgan Aero 8
• BMW Z3 M
• Lotus Elise
• Vertigo Streiff

The following official tracks are included
• Barcelona
• Magny-Cours
• Enna-Pergusa
• Brno
• Donington
• Spa 24H
• Anderstorp
• Oschersleben
• Estoril
• Monza

Two completely different Game modes - -Simulation mode- and -Arcade mode- with individual physics to suit every game fan.

GTR will be hosted on dedicated servers on the Internet and multiplayer competitions will be held
They do not mention Xbox Live, but I can only imagine that it would be part of this since they are spending so much time with the PC multiplayer code.

Don:

That is PHENOMENAL news! The Xbox is sorely lacking a good sportscar sim, although TOCA 2 will have sports cars.

My sports car jones was stoked by watching the Grand-Am race on site at Homestead and by watching bits and pieces of the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. I much prefer the prototype cars of the ALMS to those of Grand-Am, but I like all sports cars.

And once Le Mans arrives in June, my sports car jones will peak! Could the developers move up the release date to mid-June? :)

Fifty-six cars on track? 24 Hours at Spa? The Lambo Murcielago? Wow, this game looks sick. Hopefully it's not a PC port to the Xbox that falls to excess ambition, like Geoff Crammond's GP 4. That was supposed to come to the Xbox, too, and never did.

Thanks again.

Take care,
PK

I'm really not that interested in games lately, due to shitty things happening in my life and tons of school projects.

Hopefully my radar starts pinging a little bit more at the end of April. (Insert pinging joke here).

Guys, what do you think of Starcraft? I've never really gamed much on the PC, but saw this for cheap over at Gamestop. I was watching some E3 stuff last night and saw the developer of Starcraft 2 showing some video and saying what a big hit the first one was. So my interest has been peaked!

Yep, I pulled this thread out from the attic. Did a search for "starcraft" and picked one!
