Check out this blog and scroll down to where it talks about the NBA Live Rewind feature. http://www.easports.com/nbalive09/news. ... pblog71108JackB1 wrote:Does anyone understand how this feature where you can play the actual games the day after they happen works? Thanks. It looks like you play out that game, but with the DNA tendencies that were in effect for that particular game. I thought it would also be cool to just watch the game play out on your game, just the way it happened in real life.grtwhtsk wrote:Check out this blog and scroll down to where it talks about the NBA Live Rewind feature. http://www.easports.com/nbalive09/news. ... pblog71108JackB1 wrote:Does anyone understand how this feature where you can play the actual games the day after they happen works? Just found out you can't use the "rewind" feature unless you are playing in Exhibition Mode. I can't believe you can't play along with your season and use the "rewind" feature with it. That was the main thing I got the game for. True, you can download the latest DNA and play with that, but it's not the same as the EXACT DNA for THAT EXACT game.
pretty disappointing. I think my copy of Live might be Ebay bound.

Why would you possibly expect to use the rewind feature in franchise mode?JackB1 wrote:Just found out you can't use the "rewind" feature unless you are playing in Exhibition Mode. It would be cool to play along with the season, using the DNA from the game the night before. The fact that it's only available for Exhibition games is crappy.bkrich83 wrote:Why would you possibly expect to use the rewind feature in franchise mode?JackB1 wrote:Just found out you can't use the "rewind" feature unless you are playing in Exhibition Mode. I guess. although it limits how you far along you could play in your season. Really doesn't make sense to add that feature to franchise.
I have been playing rewind games the last couple of days. Total blast for me.

I can't seem to figure out this DNA thing. If you play thru a season and you always have the updated DNA file....isn't it basically the same as doing the "rewind" thing, as long as I am playing a season game that has already happened?bkrich83 wrote:JackB1 wrote:It would be cool to play along with the season, using the DNA from the game the night before. Jack - Once you start your Franchise you use the latest DNA that was updated as a starting point. Your franchise will not use any other future DNA updates. Only exhibition games will and online.JackB1 wrote:I can't seem to figure out this DNA thing. Are you 100% sure about that? If true..that kind of kills it for me. What fun is playing a season out with just a couple days of DNA data? It makes playing a season exactly like it was in years past.....with stats based only on the prior season. Who wants to just play a bunch of exhibition games? You can't track any cummulative stats that way.TheTruth wrote: Jack - Once you start your Franchise you use the latest DNA that was updated as a starting point. This was the main reason I went with Live instead of 2K and now I feel stupid for doing this.
Live's gameplay is definitely "simpler". Whether or not you find it more fun is very subjective. It appears that 2k9 is the recognized better hoops game this year. Some say by a wide margin. That said, I still enjoy Live, but I am little peeved that the up to date DNA features and the "rewind" are only applicable in Exhibition modes.spooky157 wrote:I've been an NBA 2K guy for the longest time but I decided to go with Live this year. I'm sure 2K is probably better than Live in the gameplay department but the game was getting a bit stale. I hope Live can deliver.
I'm having a blast with Live, despite its quirks. For example:

Which to be honest isn't unlike the defense the Kings play in real life. Live DNA makes a difference!

I am really enjoying Live this year as well. I ended up sending back 2k because it felt like more of the same and the players feel too light and robotic to me. I think the players have weight in Live and it makes a world of difference for me.
Plus I love the isolation moves:

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I like it too, but why cant we constantly update the DNA as we play through a season?ScoopBrady wrote:I am really enjoying Live this year as well. Why would you want it to? You'd basically be saying to ignore what streaks, events, and such are taking place in your season to use what's in the "real world".JackB1 wrote:I like it too, but why cant we constantly update the DNA as we play through a season?ScoopBrady wrote:I am really enjoying Live this year as well. A team in your season thats 0-20 shouldn't be using it's DNA if it's 20-0 in the real world....

1. Responsiveness has been patched...I still believe it could and will be bettersportdan30 wrote: - My main beef with this game is the responsiveness of the controls. The delay with the jump button is head scratching. Why they couldn't make it more responsive is beyond me. Maybe they were looking to add a more simulation feel, but it comes off as quite frustrating. In addition, passing the ball around the perimeter again feels rather robotic. Whereas the other game feels more fluid, I feel as if I'm struggling with my button presses.
- Shooting seems rather canned in my opinion. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason if a shot goes in. Now, I understand there's an element of programming that goes in to determine if a shot falls. However, release point doesn't seem to make a darn bit of difference. That's rather disappointing.
- Fast breaks just don't flow well. There seems to be a lot of catching and stopping, catching and stopping. It's better than it has been in year's past, but it's still missing that up and down feel.
2. You said "Shooting seems rather canned in my opinion."...Its all about the DNA my man...you gotta play the game according to the player DNA and where their hot spots are....You do that and shooting and making and/or missed shots takes on a new meaning. Thats what so great about this game.
3. Fastbreaks don't seem very problematic to me...But I understand your critique
Here is what I think is a good analogy of both LIVE and 2k by the Cszar:

For every thing you mentioned someone may be able to point out just as big a list with 2k. The only thing is it probably would be different things that are important to us that 2k may not do as well.
Every single one of us makes allowances for the game we prefer to play. That is just how it is. We will consciously not put the engine in situations it does not handle well.
Some people are into testing a game engine far more than playing it. Like for instance jtdribbles my man is thorough. Some of the things he tries like putting rad at point I personally would not because that doesn't represent real basketball to me. But its a way for him to see if the subtle differences that represent basketball to him are fixed in this engine.
So he is going to see something I won't becasue I am not testing the engine I am playing the game.
I said this a few years ago that if we were able to see extended video on how each of us plays the game and then see their complaints we would be like OKAY I see why you think ....this or that.
The one truth is that live is not as deep as 2k9 there is no debating this and some people equate gameplay or sim with a complete experience. No one here can debate that but these games are on different levels.
2k is a sliding mess and even if you LOVE the game you can't deny that. So you make an allowance and everything that sits on top of that fact is effected but you are able to say okay I will sacrifice that for all the things I like.
So a game like live with no sliding may not move as smoothly as 2k but some will overlook some of the smoothness issues to play a game that feels like next gen. So that is where an allowance is made on that side.
I would venture to say that most people who see the genius in live are struck by a deep sense of authenticity in the actual gameplay department. Let me be specific because gameplay can be defined in so many different ways.
Gameplay for me in how live is better and more authentic is this. The players in nba live are in the same positions they are in the real nba becaue live has real team sets. this means that in real life bosh gets the ball a ton at the high post. Whether he is scoring or playing off someone else.
In live he is in that position all the time. and takes shots from there all the time. In fact some of the exact plays they run in real live you can run in live.
Sliders or no sliders 2k can not replicate this because of the generic nature of their playcalling system and playbooks. In fact lives variation systems offers a much more alive cpu in this particular aspect that makes it hard to go back to playing a generic system with generic plays that are not found in most nba playbooks.
I look at it briefly in this manner.
Live is more realistic in getting the right players in the right positions to make the right plays. 2k is better once your players get the ball they will move more like you think they should and have a crap load of options once they get it to look like and play the individual they are..
So it depends on what you focus on and how you play as to which game is not only better but more authentic.
So if someone doesn't play online they may not even notice the things that frustrate you to no end. But conversely the things you may not notice in 2k will drive another person absolutely bonkers.
2k is more mature and complete but EA is more accurate due to DNA. So what happens when the accuracy of EA meets the variability of animations and play styles ?
that is what we will all have the option to answer in 2010.
