OT: Does anyone else have problems with red x's on Gamespot?

Post by ScoopBrady »

I rarely see any pictures on Gamespot. I'd say about 85% of the pics on that website show up as red x's on my monitor. Does anyone else experience that or is my monitor rebelling against them?

I had the problem a while back, and that was because of kazaa lite. I'm not sure if this will apply in your case, but it was happening because kazaa lite would block ads from image.com.com or something like that, and that was gamespot's image server, hence you would not get their images on the webpage.

Again, probably not your problem, but may shed some light on your troubleshooting.

I think it has to do with a pop up blocker, but I could be wrong.

I've got IE 6.1 and Opera and I get the red Xs with IE, but I don't get them with Opera. IE has a pop up blocker, Opera doesn't.

Hell, I don't know, it could be just the way Opera loads pages. :?:

If you think it's kazaa lite, you don't have to delete it to get gamespot working. I don't remember exactly, but there is some file that kazaa lite installs that has a list of web pages that kazaa lite blocks. All you have to do is go into that file with a text editor and delete image.com.com from the list. Sorry I can't be more specific about that file though.

It could be the pop-up blocker too. If you're still having problems, see what the man says at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283807

It's definitely a problem with Kazaa. I think there's a support page on Gamespot that explains how to fix it.

From http://www.gamespot.com/misc/help/index.html :

I can't view screenshots and graphics on GameSpot. Screens and graphics on every other Internet site I visit are OK. What's going on?Chances are that ad blocking or firewall software on your computer is blocking them. A common culprit is Kazaa Lite, which has a large list of blocked sites, including Image.com.com. GameSpot screenshots and graphics are served from Image.com.com. For assistance in unblocking Image.com.com from your ad blocking or firewall software, please consult your software's manual or publisher.

Clear your cache. I guarantee you that this will never occur in Opera!
