Jack,
I'm not blaming the time keeper, I am just asking why there is no accountability for it?
Is the time kept by an NFL official? If no why not? Can something like that be reviewed? I've still not seen one person say that we're wrong or nitpicking only that it's part of football, why is that acceptable?
If my memory serves this happened last year and got the Cowboys a win, seems like a lot of people were hot about that.

The clock started a little late on the snap, but stopped on time when Jenkins went out of bounds. But if you look on the previous play(the return) one extra second went off the clock. It evened out.
So, I would assume you are talking about the pass play? I have watched the play many times, and it stopped when it should have stopped.

There should be accountability, but that type of "home field clock management" happens on any given Sunday. I believe that the home field provides a timekeeper, but the officials on the field can overrule them if they believe something was inaccurate.

Little late? Again I am not blaming the loss on this but c'mon you're just kidding right. Seems more then a little late to me, seems like 2 seconds.
The clock never should have been a factor. When you have a lead with 11 or 15 or 20 seconds left and you're kicking off, you should be able to stop a team from scoring. The squib was a bad call by the staff. They were clearly worried about Norwood having another long return, but they would have probably burned off an extra 2 seconds with a deep return, which would have left Atlanta in a position to throw for the endzone with one last play.
I have never had such a quick turnaround during a Bears game. My daughter's baptism was yesterday, and the Bears ruined it!
A series of things resulted in a Falcon victory and a Bear loss.
The squib which gave Atlanta the ball within FG striking distance...
The time keeper who CLEARLY didnt start the clock on time after the snap.
The defense allowing a long pass play to the sidelines. The sidelines should be guarded like the lines are late in a baseball game.
That was only the 3rd time in NFL history a team taking a lead with 15 seconds or less left in a game lost.

How about the inability of the Bears to get it one yard into the endzone on that 4th down play? If they scored there, none of your 3 things matter.

That would be on a different list. I was referring to the last 11 seconds.

Do you think it was fair that the Falcons were given 3-4 extra seconds Jack? That's all I'm asking because I know if the Bears had won a game in the same manner I wouldn't say a word about it and would just enjoy the gift. I certainly wouldn't defend the manner in which they won. For someone to go on and on about how unfair it is for horses in horseracing you sure don't seem to mind when your team benefits from an unfair set of circumstances.
For the record, the Bears could have done plenty of things differently to win that game. Not scoring from the 1 was a problem. Focusing everything on stopping Michael Turner and not pressuring a rookie qb is another. But the fact of the matter is they were still in the game with a chance of winning it with 2 minutes left to play in the game. They did score the go-ahead touchdown with 11 seconds to go in the game. If an NFL official was in charge of the time I would say that it was bullshit but the fact that it was an Atlanta Falcons employee really makes it hard to handle.
Enjoy the win but at least understand why a Bears fan might have a problem with what went down.

I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
I think you need to look at the entire second half then to see how much time should be on the click when you are worried about 1 second(at the most).
Its highly probable that time went off the clock earlier in the after half during an incompletion when it should have been stopped earlier. In fact, I would bet another 15 seconds or so should have been put on the clock which should have given the Bear's another chance.
If I were a Bears fan, I would ask why Michael Jenkins was WIDE open on an out with a few seconds left on the clock?
And when the ball is snapped, a second should not immediately go off the clock. The clock should tick a second after the ball is snapped. Its like when you are born, you are not immediately 1 year old, you have to wait a year.
and yes I am a Falcons fan. My friend called me when the Bears took the lead, I was pretty pissed at that time as the falcons are a miserable organization... always have been. I have seen them snatch defeat from the jaws of victory countless time in my life. In fact, I think the falcons could win ever game for the next 11 years and they would still be a losing franchise. - back to my point. I was blaming Mike Smith and Blank. MS got conservative and tried to run the clock instead of trying to score again.
I do think its getting pretty picky to look at a second or two in the last 15 seconds of the game. Yes, I am glad the Falcons won, but in no way to I consider it a gift as I think the Falcons deserved the win.
A gift would be what Minnesota got on that PI call.

Oh, they are. That was a rookie CB who didn't deny the sideline to Jenkins. They had 2 backup CB's in for most of the game, as I said in my original post, and there's no doubt that his mistake on that play was fatal.
Harris is also getting pilloried for his screw up on that fumble, and his indefensible responses to reporters afterward.

The Falcons did deserve to win, the outplayed and out coached the Bears. A gift is calling for a squib kick, or executing it by kicking it to the guy at the 35 (if he kicked it out of bounds the Falcons would of started at the 40 instead of the 44) or calling Cover 2 or having a backup CB in the game and not telling him to get deep.
None of that matters with what I have been asking and why is the time keeping not handled by an NFL Official? Why is it acceptable? I can tell you I was just as annoyed at the Cowboy game last year and it didn't involve my team.
Sure because it happened to my team I am discussing it but I am talking about it big picture but you guys can't get by justifying it for your team to discuss it.

I think Jack is ridiculous, but making that comparison is pretty laughable. Seriously? You really compared the treatment of animals to the clock starting late? Wow.

I'm not comparing the death of horses to a clock starting late. I was stating that I was surprised that somebody who went into great length about fairness in that thread would turn a blind eye when something unfair happened to benefit his team.
And bdunn, I would venture to say that it is damn near impossible to legitimately complete a 26-yard pass to the sidelines in 6 seconds if timed properly. I kept saying to myself all day, how the hell did that happen? There's no way there can be a squib kick, 26-yard pass out-of-bounds, and a field goal attempt in 11 seconds. It's impossible. Now I know why. Justify what happened all you want but it was despicable.

And just so bdunn and jack know I have no problem with you guys. I'm just venting after a loss that I find hard to swallow given the circumstances. I'm sure you guys would feel the same way had this happened in Chicago.

Yeah because I go to that disaster known as OS. It's like an entire community filled with...well, you know who I'm talking about. I'd put myself out of my own misery at that point.
I'm not sure how the Giants lost to them...weird. It's just funny that you pipe up after each win here, yet it's eerily silent when they lose. Just a trend I noticed.
