I hate Pelosi, but only 30% of the Rep's voted for it, while 60% of the Dem's did, so who would YOU blame more?
On the other hand, it's nice to see some some doubt on both sides concerning this bill. There must still be some important issues that need to be worked out.

Jack 40 percent of Dems voted aginist it. Don't you think those 94 votes would have pushed this bill through? Bush wasn't going to Veto it. She has no control over her own party. Yet she's pointing a finger at the Repulicans? It's a joke man.

I don't think it's doubt over the bill-I think it was doubt of their re-election chances that drove most of the 94...

Both sides are pointing fingers. So what else is new. Personally, I like the way this is sitting now. Let them work it out. They have been sitting on their asses long enough. Time to work together and figure something out that we can all live with.

I agree brother. That being said I gotta poke the Dems in the eye. The majority failed. Pelosi and Obama have work to do.
I was talking with a friend of mine today, about the economy and Iran's nuclear ambitions, and we both agreed we wish we could be talking about gay marriage instead. The culture wars seem so quaint compared to actual problems.

McCain took credit for bringing the House Republicans to the table. But many of the GOP House members whom he personally lobbied voted against the bailout, including 2 representatives from AZ.

You know what...either you are for Capitalism or your are not. You can't be for it until it doesn't work. This bill could start a nasty precedent.
Doesn't really have anything to do with the events from today, but I wish someone could explain to me the gas crisis here in Atlanta. I just read that they're expecting it to take another 2-4 weeks for this to get straightened out. WFT is goin' on with this world?

Good line. Should've gone with Matt Millen though.
He also had that line about voting for the guy with one house. Obama may prefer that nobody talk about houses...particularly with Rezko getting ready to reinject himself into the news LOL

Given the numbers voting against the bill, I don't think you can blame either party specifically. If anything, it shows the Lehman Brothers-esque stock of the Bush Administration, which twisted Republican Congressional arms like Lyndon Johnson used to and couldn't even get half of the Republicans to play along.
Pelosi ran into the other side of the coin, the liberal constituents who don't want Wall Street to get a handout for bad investments. I sympathize but also feel that the effects of this will hit nearly everyone without some kind of aid.
This also doesn't mean the government won't act, they just won't do it with this particular bill. I sense a classic "we voted against this and instead came up with this 90% compromise" type of act.
Well, while we're at the 'who to blame for what' game...

McCain is taking two days off from campaigning, so that he can personally tutor Palin about the VP debate at his house in Arizona. Uh-oh, the leash is getting shorter.
The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."
P.S. Teal, you realize you are quoting America's most famous socialist, right?

That is a very interesting and sad 8 mins and 37 seconds.
Republicans are to blame for not intervening to stop the mortgage crisis years ago. Even though it was largely Democrats opposing intervention, Republicans are at fault because they held a majority in both chambers of Congress.

I still think it will eventually pass in some form. People will watch the news, see the bad stuff happening, and rethink their opposition to it. Then, the members of Congress who opposed the bill only because they govern by poll (a significant % of those who opposed it, I would guess) will be able to support a new bill. They will point at some new tacked-on provision as an excuse for changing their vote.

MACTEP, there a few people around with less credibility on Palin-related news than Andrew Sullivan. I'm actually surprised that FiveThirtyEight relied on his "sources." OTOH, Sean Quinn is significantly more partisan than Nate Silver, so I shouldn't be that surprised.

Credibility doesn't seem to be much of an issue, when sliming is the goal. Not saying YOU'RE doing it, MACTEP...but I am saying Andrew Sullivan is.
Andrew Sullivan is completely unhinged. His only real use these days is as a punching bag for right-wing blogs that want to poke fun at the "looney left."
I'll be completely honest -- I don't know who Andrew Sullivan is. By the nature of your comment I understand that he is a left leaning pundit, but that's really not why I thought that article was worth mentioning. As a matter of fact, I believe that article can do more good for GOP supporters as it significantly lowers expectations of Palin before the debate, something republicans are trying very hard to accomplish.
Mostly, I wanted to revert the discussion toward Thursday's debate, as well as point out that by now, Palin's absense from the media is just borderline absurd.
