Yep. Brown saved the Bears' ass on fourth down. As I saw the replay of that fourth-and-1, I said out loud, "Who was that dude who came screaming in from the end to rip the runner back?"

It was Brown.

I'm still stunned that Reid didn't try a McNabb rollout or play-action at least once, considering the Bears had about 10 men in the box on third and fourth down.

I totally agree but I think the fact that they tried doing that in the 3rd quarter and he almost threw an interception was the reason he didn't. Still, you roll him out on a play action and you have options rather than all or nothing.

Tennessee 4-0? They really aren't that good are they?

With the Eagles, I think Reid figured the shortest path between two points is a straight line. Not a bad call, the Bears (specifically Alex Brown) just executed better than the Eagles blockers did. The Bears have enough team speed to stop an old McNabb on a boot, and I think playaction from the goal line tends to succeed less often then trying to run up the gut.

As for the Bills, I'd say the comeback wins say a lot about the team. Even good NFL teams struggle on the road (see the Broncos against the woeful Chiefs yesterday), so I don't see them falling behind to the Rams as important as coming back to kick the crap out of them. With the Raiders win, good teams have those kinds of games. What makes them good is they win them. Not calling them world-beaters, but I don't think the 4-0 is a fluke. It's funny that they and the Titans are 4-0, because both teams are kind of similar in their strengths and approaches.

No one said 4-0 is a fluke. 4 and 0 is 4 and 0...regardless of how you get there. I'm just saying I don't think they are QUITE as good as the media is making them out to be. They are starting to get the pub now. I think the Titans are significantly better than the Bills...at least right now. Giving up just over 10 points per game is a ticket to a fairly successful season. That, of course, is subject to change at any time.

There will be a dozen teams at least that have 4-0 stretches during the season. The one's who start out that way get disproportionate attention.

I think the Titans and Bills are both playoff teams, but neither are going to dominate the rest of the way.

I agree. The collective record of the Bills' four opponents this season is 4-11. They haven't exactly beaten Murderers Row.

Then again, I'm not seeing the media love-in over the Bills, either. No one is putting them at the level of Dallas, Washington or Philly. Peter King called Trent Edwards his first quarter NFL MVP, and Edwards is playing really well and showing a ton of moxie late in games. That's about the highest praise I've seen for the Bills so far.

Tennessee's defense is tough as hell. The Titans are reminding me more and more of the 2000 Ravens, who won with defense and asked their QB (insert Collins for Dilfer) to do nothing but be efficient and smart.

Still, it's very, very refreshing to feel this damn good about my team for the first time in a long time. My goal still remains the same for the Bills as it did in camp: Make the playoffs. That's it -- I don't have Super Bowl fever yet.

Take care,
PK

Why does TO think he is a big time receiver? It must be his mouth as his hands are made of stone. He drops more balls than even average receivers. Thrash might of had better hands than he does.

TO has Hall of Fame numbers doesn't he?

Probably second in TDs for WRs all-time?

Brad's right though he drops a lot of balls, and it has cost him teams at times.

He's a HOF after the catch for sure, but him catching the ball is no certainty.

True a lot of drops and you can even say he's not made enough plays in big games.

His biggest catch was probably that last-second TD to beat the Packers in the first or second-round playoff game at Candlestick.

He had a decent game in the SuperBowl. Maybe if he was fully healthy, he could have put the Eagles over the top.

That has to be the worst coaching job in the NFL. There are some other places that are bad, but working for The Crypt Keeper would be awful.

Not only that, Davis apparently intends not to pay the remaining $3.5 million on Kiffin's contract.

Davis was supposedly trying to get out of the contractual obligations before the season and if he could, Kiffin would have been fired then.

Sheesh. It will be quite the soap opera to see how Davis tries to pull that off.

I can't understand who would want to take the Raiders coaching job, or go their as a free agent. It's where careers go to die.

Al Davis reminds me of Bill Wirtz. It's a shame, the Raiders have some decent talent on both sides of the ball but just can't put together a full 60 minutes.

The video clip on ESPN says he withheld pay when Mike Shanahan was the Raiders Head Coach. Al Davis is a d***** bag. And as Danimal said I don't know who in their right mind would want to be a part of that circus. ;)

Davis is laying the foundation that Kiffin broke his contract by 'leaking' inside information to reporters (Chris Mortensen especially), hence no need to pay him.

Well a couple of ex-Raider coaches went on to bigger and better things.

Plus it's a multi-million dollar payday, which is more than most assistant coaches get.

Heard that a couple of years ago, Davis wanted Pettrino but a successful college coach can probably make more than entry-level NFL head coaches.

College coaches make very good money now and in some cases they make even more than NFL HC. Nick Saban I think makes $5 million plus per year and they don't have the long hours NFL HC put in.

I think being a HC in College is the way to go. You make major jack and don't have to put in 16 hours days basically 365 days a year.

Hey, look at Greg Robinson at Syracuse: He has eight wins in three-plus seasons, and he makes $1 million per year. That's a tidy $500,000 per victory if SU finishes with only one victory this season, which looks very likely.

Not a bad gig if you can get it.

Mike Shanahan's disagreement was over something like 800k. Al David never did pay him. That's why Shanahan tries to run up the score against the Raiders.

After watching the Raiders press conference, I feel sorry for all the players, OAK fans and new coach Tom Cable. The players for obvious reasons, and Cable because he seems like a genuinely nice guy... He's got no chance with Davis as owner. Who would want to coach with this egomaniac owner?
