Help for a High Heat PC newbie

Post by Brando70 »

I decided to give HH 2004 a whirl after getting bored with MVP, but I haven't played the game on the PC before or done anything with the mods. Does anyone have suggestions on where to go for 2004 rosters, mods, tunes, etc.? Also, do those files usually have instructions on how to use them?

Thanks for the help.

I'm in the same boat as you. I just bought HH 2004 PC on Friday and spent some time Saturday morning getting it up and running from the mods in this thread:

http://66.162.145.133/modules.php?name= ... 18ccf26ed2

I skipped all the Cincy Reds mods since I play as the Rockies, but I grabbed everything else at baseballsimcentral. All the mods are in zip files that include Readme files. The HH mods are very easy to install, all you do is rename (or write over) the original files and drop the new ones in the their place.

By the way, I haven't had any of the spyware trouble at baseballsimcentral. I'll run Ad-aware again, but I haven't noticed anything, especially not new icons on my desktop.

Fathead, I didn't have any trouble in the Files or the main page either. My problem was in the boards. Did you go there?

Yeah, I did, briefly. I went through all the High Heat topics, but that was about it.

As a HH veteran, my one piece of advice is that all mods are not good. Over the years I have been able to figure out who makes good stuff and what to look for in the mods.

If you want a list of good mods and gameplay slider/tune advice, let me know.

I would like that list snate...I'm about to pick up HH04 since none of the baseball games thusfar can offer me the experience that I'm looking for. I know HH can do that.

Snate, I would be interested in that list. Can you shoot me a PM when you get a chance? Thanks.

Since it's looking like none of the baseball games this year are going to be an improvement over High Heat, I also just ordered a copy of HH2004 for the PC along with a new video card that will let me actually run it (which I needed anyway!). Snate, I'm also interested in that info you mentioned, and would really appreciate it if you could either post it here or send me a PM.

If anyone else is interested in buying the game, I found it for a great price on the Amazon.com marketplace (about $6), and there were a couple other copies still listed for similar prices.

Level - MVP - (This level was created by the developers to give the most realistic results)

Rosters - Always best to use default rosters - you can redraft them using a fantasy draft. If you need current rosters - Katana has the best current set out now. Pudge will be releasing a very good current set in a few weeks.

Settings

Guess Pitch - on (Use it too - especially early in the count or in hitters counts - don't swing if you are wrong - it will be an out. I like to guess fastball b/c it is easy to pick up. Although if a pitcher has more than 1 type of fastball I usually look for something else.)
Walk-up - on
Errors - on
Pitcher warm up - on
Variable Ump - on
Injuries - on

Action Cam - off (it blows)

Cameras - Hitting - Low
Pitching -Pitcher
(I have some great custom camera views if you want them)

Ump words - off
ball trail - off

Sliders (1-10)

Batting Sliders

CPU Hitting 5
CPU Power 5
Human Hitting 5 or 6 (depending on your skill level)
Human Power 5 or 6 (depending on your skill level)
Fouls Balls 6
Human Contact Ease 4

Pitch Sliders

ALL 6

Run Speed Sliders

CPU Baserunning Speed 5
CPU Fielder Speed 5
Human Baserunning Speed 5
Human Fielder Speed 5

Throw Speed Sliders

CPU Fielder Throw Speed 5
CPU Catcher Stole Base Throw 5
HUman Fielder Throw Speed 5
Human Catcher Stole Base Throw5

Misc Sliders

Error Frequency 5
Injury Frequency 5 (unless you use my custom tune, then 1 - I'll explain below)
Pitch Count 6
Pitcher Control Sim 6
Pitcher Fatigue Rate 5

Simulation Slider

Simulation 5

Good Mods/Utilities

Danger Z HH Edit - (may take some time to become familiar with but this utility is all powerful - allows you to even turn the rain feature on - something the developers forgot to do - I'm not kidding.)
HH Boxscore
Serial Mike's HD Stadiums
Trues Fox overlay
Faces - http://home.comcast.net/~sxdx/completeheadsfull.zip (Patch - http://www.highheat2004.net/dloads/face ... ds_fce.zip)
All Nicotines Sound Mods
Moser's Uniforms (only use if you have a good CPU) -
BKlein's generic game.mf
NTN's photosets

Animdb file - the only thing I would change is the catcher animation in the pitcher view that gives away that it is going to be a ball. I can email you this file if you want it.

Tune file - I increase the base injury number - to give more inuries in simmed games. I have custom camera views. I turn off park effects (they are too powerful). I turn on save boxscores. That is about it. I can email you my file on this too if you want.

Thanks Snate! I enjoy playing around with sliders, tune files, etc., but this will give me a great starting point at the very least.

I'm back to HH, too! After playing 4 seasons of HH2002 with my Indians(yes, that's all 162 games each year), and falling in game 6 of the 2004 World Series to the Expos, I've upgraded to HH2004 and am starting a dynasty with the Rockies (I've since moved to Denver.)

Has anyone figured out the workings of HHFO? I want to play with contracts and such, but all the new updated rosters for this year require that you play in "Career Mode." HHFO is a potential solution, if it's stable and reliable.

Who knows -- maybe I'll make a tune file, and Snate and I can relive our heated tune battles of March and April 2001. Ah, the memories...

I have never been a fan HHFO. I've tried all versions and have never been able to get it to work properly. The interface is horrendous.

Just wanted to say thanks to snate and also Bill for their great advice on HH mods. Just started playing HH 2004 on my PC yesterday and a lot of these files add so much to the game. Thanks again.
