At 38 you guys are making me feel young :D !

I went and rented WSB 2K3 and found it very enjoyable. Fielders actualy do what I want them to when I want them to. With variable pitching on high I miss my spots. I hate cursor batting but this one feels better than any other cursor batting, and they have zone this year.

I supose I haven't had enough time with it to see all the big trouble areas but with this on XBL I can say it will be my game of choice this year.

Biggest problem I had with WSB last year wast the atmosphere, or lack of it. If they can live up the crow a bit this year it should be the best overall game outhere.

PK-

From what I played in the demo, the strike zones have been fixed considerably. They are just about perfect, and I agree, they were too big last year.

I'm convinced that ESPN will be the most solid game this year. Hopefully the game will have a little atmosphere to go along with it.

A.J.:

Very cool. The humongous strike zone the last two years really chapped my ass.

Was the ease of stealing fixed? If that is fixed, then I may buy a baseball game after all.

Take care,
PK

I initially was very unimpressed with the demo for this game but after spending the last 5 days running ASB through its paces I revisited the demo and came away feeling much better about it. Like AJ said, the strike zones have been fixed. There's no reason to think that the final versions strike zones will be any different. This is my last hope for a fun Xbox Live baseball game and I am definitely trading in ASB towards this game.

PK-

Didn't experiment too much with the steals. All I can say is that there is a really comprehensive slider set that should rectify this if it's bad out of the box...

It's a shame that ESPN is getting such mediocre press. This is primarily because they're not glitzing it up with fancy pitching meters or other gimmicks. Read the IGN (near final build) impressions. They go on about what a disappointment ESPN is, only to admit the gameplay is just fine. I really don't care if the first-person mode is the worst mode ever, if the gameplay delivers, what's the problem?

Playing this (6 month old!) demo is very satisfying after this year's slew of disappointments. I should be a happy camper when this one comes out in a couple of weeks.

While we're talking ages...I'm 36. My wife thinks I'm too old to be a gamer. I guess I should show her this thread!

Steve:

Just tell the Frau you're never too old to have fun, and if gaming delivers you fun, then so be it!

My wife is very cool with that as long as gaming doesn't interfere with family time or chores.

No worries here.

Take care,
PK

That's my motto, PK. You're never too old for fun. I will alwys be a kid at heart, no matter how much life (and others) try and force me into being old. Hell, my dad still collects Hot Wheels and loves playing with the grandkids. I really think he uses our 3-year old son as an excuse to open up some the cars and play with them :)

BTW, I'm 33 going on 18.

I'm 42. Late to gaming. Started about 10 years ago when i got a computer and picked up a copy of FPS Football Pro out of the bargain bin at Target. Haven't stopped since.

My wife has a secret passion - she watches the soaps. We give ourselves slack on our hobbies. We both like to travel, sports, reading, some charitable stuff, etc. With no kids, our time is our own - when not working, that is.

I seriously cannot believe that I'm the youngest one here by at least 5-7 years minimum. What the hell is with all you old farts?

I guess it makes sense. All the 'kids' are over at OS, while the civilized, mature behavior takes place over here.

I am 44. I go way back to the Odyssey 2 and Intellivision Days.

I am married with an 8 yr old daughter. Its difficult to play as much as I like but enjoy all of the baseball titles!

Kevin, please sell your copy of ASB so we can stop the price war! I am going to chill until yours is gone because I don't want to go much lower at this time 8O

I just turned 36.

Great googly moogly, this place is DSAARP. I thought I was a geezer at 33.

Keeping with the thread, I ain't holding my breath for ESPN MLB. I'd like it to be good, but (pardon the pun) Sega has struck out with me more times than not since the Dreamcast days. ESPN NFL is the only game I've played from them recently that was better than I expected. I'd like ESPN MLB to be the game this year, but I am trying to not think like that so I don't rush out and get it (like I did with MVP).

It's funny, while I find message boards much, much more reliable than reviews, there can be an echo chamber effect when you're reading pre-release posts on anticipated games. In terms of my own personal hype-to-performance level, MVP was an incredible disappointment, probably the biggest I felt since College Basketball 2k3. So I'm going to show my age and play HH like a retiree who hates change :D

No sh*t...I might as well start cashing in my IRA or collecting Social Security...I feel I should start doing that, since everyone else is doing it here.

Social Security will be bankrupt by the time us fossils hit 65, so there's no hope for you, man.

Either that, or we'll pay 50 percent taxes.
