Thanks, Doug.
The problem is going to be with OTP, which I'm sure will be a the default setting.

That's unfortunate although I'm not sure it will be that big of a problem. With up to 10 of us playing on a side I don't think we'll ever be confused with Manchester United or Sir Alex Ferguson - not that Dave would think that was a bad thing!
I don't know what EA Canada are smoking (though BC has some pretty potent pot!) but whatever it is they seem to be on quite a roll with their sports games. NHL 09, Fifa 09, Winning Eleven (hopefully up to snuff after a bad year, Football Manager, NHL 09, Head Coach 09 - not a bad time to be a sports gamer!
Best wishes,
Doug

Ssshh, don't spoil it. The world is finding out and they want to know what everyone smokes here. In regards to EA Canada, you're right, they nailed down NHL and Fifa 09.
I've never been a Fifa guy so it's going to take me some time to get used to the controls. Until I do, I can't really judge the game - I'm not playing the most attractive football right now. I must say though that the responsiveness is still slower than I'd hoped for.
I love how EA Canada puts in Toronto FC in the demo. Put a huge grin on my face, especially seeing them take on Chelsea

Red Bull NY was in last year's demo, but it is nice to have some acknowledgment that MLS exists.
These mixed things on player responsiveness trouble me, but I'll wait to judge for myself. Should have time to try it this weekend.
Too damn fast, it seems the only way they could make the game more responsive is to make it run through animations. It's just nauseating to watch players' feet move now. Red Bull, anyone?

I've been playing videogames for 30 years. I've never watched the players feet move. Am I missing something?
I'm fine with the speed already.

I want as much realism as possible in the game, and watching 22 Usain Bolts on the pitch is just not doing it for me. I think 08 had a very good representation of players' speed and passing speed. Watching a player recieve the ball in traffic and somehow be able to pack 4 steps a turn and a pass all in the matter of 1 second is way too videogamish. I can't help but think that this is just their way of fixing the responsiveness issue -- speeding up the animations, so that the amount of time between pressing the button and the payer responding is decreased. I am just not cool with that.
I am coming around on the shooting, though. Once you practice around with it it become striker's paradise. Gotta love that.
Ok ive read what Doug said but still cant find the advanced options menu for changing speed, saying that, i have no problem with the speed, tho ive played on pro and world class.
Game play feels great so far, very nice.
Some typical annoyances are still there for me, players still chest the ball way too much in pressure situations it seems if your not in direct control of the player before the ball gets there he has the tendency to want to control with his chest first instead of getting rid that doesnt happen inside the box sorry, maybe 1 muppet outta a million trys it .
Too many shots off the woodwork, did the nhl09 team develop shooting for both.
I see what Mactep is saying with shot power in game but in the pre game warm up any type of sprint before hitting it blasts it and it looks really good but have yet to replicate that type of effort in game but then i havnt got many shots off yet , the ones i did hit the bar or post.
Control response seems fine to me and i really like the physical battles its done really well.
Tackling , well its good but as someone said its not dependent on if you get the ball first it seems the ref blows if you catch a player with any follow thru, may just be a timing/distance/art to it.
I'm not a soccer fan and haven't played a soccer videogame in years, but I really like the demo a lot. To me, this game is light years ahead of Madden with graphics, customization options (there's more than 1 camera and can even customize the controls!)...amazing what competition will do. Good game.
VERY briefly tried the demo, mainly just to see about player control.
My feelings are that it is clearly improved from last year, to the point at which it's no longer a major flaw. Still way behind PES, and EA should strive to further improve it in coming years, but it's not a major flaw anymore.
I also like being able to exactly customize the controls so they exactly resemble PES. No more accidental kicks out of bounds when switching games and whatnot.
That's really unbelievable. That has been the bane of this series since the consoles came out and what has prevented this series from overtaking Konami's game. Not sure why they can't solve this issue? Very frustrating.

Which would you say Fifa 09 is more like? I've only played the demo once then had to travel for 2 weeks
Both? It's hard to say. It's faster like Euro was, but it still feels more like FIFA because it's got better shot control and set pieces. I haven't seen any of the chesting issues that Jimmy discussed, but my patience with the 15 second games has worn out so I may just not have played enough.
I don't see anywhere near the response problems that were in '08, but Squid seems to think they're still sluggish. Mileage is obviously varying quite a bit.

I just downloaded the demo and got to play a couple of games. Have you guys seen any red flags yet? So far the defense doesn't seem to be as brain dead as years past. The offense seems to be somewhat more alert as well.
I do prefer last years game speed but i'll get use to it.
Well, some of them are over the top and the juggling moves are completely usless in the game, but a found a few that I will be using all the time. I love the ability to dummy the ball. I think the flip pass can be very useful, and the ability to pick the ball up and over the tackling defender, if perfected, will lead to a fair share of FKs and pens.
Exciting stuff... if only the game wasn't too damn fast.
I found that if you play FIFA immediately after NHL it feels a lot slower.
Macca, I recently realized, once I saw the name of your created player in NHL, that it was you reviewing the UEFA game. This isn't very timely, but - great job!
