Forte won the first week for me.

I think he was the third or fourth RB I drafted.

Harrison looks done.

Moss still got over 100 yards today. Was most of that after Brady went down? Well maybe they will have to rely more on Barber, whom I also have.

The bad thing about the injury is, Dallas may now have a clear path to the SB and you root against that team even more than the Pats.

With the team virtually intact, anything short of a trip to the SB will be considered a disappointment for them. Of course they'll be pushed by the Giants and a rejuvenated Eagles team with a healthy D. McNabb.

Agreed. I'm a Bills' fan with a long memory -- how can I like the Cowboys?

Take care,

The Falcons opened with a very promising looking win. Albeit, it was against the Lions. But anytime you get a 200 yard rushing day from one of your backs, it's nothing to sneeze at. Anyone know anything about this Michael Turner? Could he be the real deal or did he get lucky against a bad defense?

Also, my JETS won! Not the most exciting victory against the lowly Fins, but a W is a W!

J_E_T_S JETS JETS JETS!!!

Turner is the real deal. He just hasn't been needed too much with LT in front of him. That was a nice sign by the Falcons and I loved every minute of their thumping of the Lions.

I was happy with the Bears performance last night and it was pretty much what I expected. I am getting so sick of the local media and their sports coverage. Everybody picked the Colts to kill the Bears and instead of saying that they may have been wrong they're still negative saying "It was the big tease for the 08 season" or "This is still a bad team and they'll be lucky to win 5 games." I honestly think the team can compete for a playoff spot if they can stay relatively healthy. Last night was a good start.

Why aren't the Bears playing Grossman? Also, is Chris Leak still with them?
Somebody's got to give that kid a chance. He was stellar with the Gators.

I hate that inbred Chicago sports pessimism, but after the way the first team D looked so lackluster in the preseason and the o-line situation, I think the skepticism was warranted.

I do think it's silly to be negative about last night's game. They didn't win on a fluke or anything, but controlled the tempo for most of the game.

Tonight's Packers/Vikes game will say a lot about the NFC North. The Lions are clearly stuck in the same suck gear as usual. Now it remains to be seen if Favre 2.0 and/or Purple Jesus step it up.

I couldn't agree more. As happy as I was to see Forte play well, I have to scratch my head and wonder at Indy's performance...especially on defense. The Bears D has about 2 games per season where they're all healthy and dominate, so that didn't surprise me. But the OL is a shambles and they still knocked the Colts all over the place. If they could keep that up I'd be thrilled, but I'm not counting on anything after one game...particularly given the age of the OL.

And this is the NFL. Challenging for a playoff spot is as much a burden as a blessing for mediocre teams.

I just wonder why they gave up on him so quickly? The guy led them to the Super Bowl and then gets benched the next season. Grossman is still developing as a player and is still pretty young for a QB. Also, he's got a heck of an arm.

Wow! You really don't read threads do you post in, do you? Just go to Pg. 2 and read the 6 or 7 posts on the topic.

No, he's pretty much looked terrible in the preseason and Orton has looked like he knows what he's doing. It's nice to see the Bears have enough faith in Orton to read the line and the line of scrimmage and audible out. Orton has all of the tools to be a solid quarterback now let's see if he develops. He looks off safeties, has a good feel for pressure, can step up in the pocket, he goes through his progressions, he checks down when necessary, and can step up and make a play on third down when given time. He's not going to be a flashy quarterback like a Brady or Manning but there's no doubt in my mind that he can be on par with a guy like Hasselbeck if given the time. This is not the same Orton that was thrust into the starters role as a rookie.

Consistency is crucial for the QB position. Grossman killed the Bears in that department. He has the potential but after several years, has never been consistent. An above-average QB who plays the same week-to-week is better than a guy who throws 4TDs one week and then 4 picks the next. This is why Atlanta couldn't get to the next level with Vick and why Vince Young is likely going to be out of a starting job soon.

I was impressed by the Bills yesterday. Lynch is a very good young back, but their D in particular just smothered the Seahawks. With the AFC East a little more wide open now, they could make a run. They have a pretty soft early schedule, too.

Impossible. ESPN.com already has ordained Favre's Jets as the AFC East champions after Week 1 now that Brady is out. All because of a six-point win over the powerhouse Dolphins:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/ ... ortCat=nfl

Meanwhile, the Bills ripped the tits off Seattle and looked very good on both sides of the ball and special teams.

But if Gene W. and ESPN.com say the Jets are going to win the division, well, then, f*ck, it must be so. They're the Worldwide Leader, remember.

I'm so f*cking sick and tired of ESPN judging on marquee power alone. The Dolphins have Tuna running the show; they must be good. The Jets have Favre at QB; they must be AFC contenders. The Bills have Trent Edwards and Marshawn Lynch in the backfield and Dick Jauron on the sidelines; they must be pretenders.

Rant over.

Take care,
PK

According to ESPN Tom Brady is God. Why did Obama pick a guy from Deleware to run with him when his father was playing QB in New England?

PK,

If it's any consolation, Jaws and his bizarre androgynous eyewear were on PTI today agreeing with you 100%. :)
