I agree 100%. Like the man...don't trust the party. There are rumors he was pressured into taking Palin as VP to pacify the hard right side of the party and to win over the evangelical vote that helped to elect Bush in the past. Not sure how much "maverick" is left in him these days?pk500 wrote:

Take care,

Haven't we had quite enough 'rumors' from the Left and the media about Palin in the last few days? Rumors are started by dumbshits who just want something to stick, whether it's true or not. People will say anything.JackB1 wrote:I agree 100%. Like the man...don't trust the party. It's 100% legit and McCain has the right to sing it from the rooftops.RobVarak wrote:That's not to say that it isn't entirely fair and appropriate for McCain and the GOP to criticize Obama's lack of judgment on the surge. Of course suggesting that Obama lacks the proper judgment to lead is also "character assasination."
This is disturbing, re: Palin. Or rather, the way they've decided to handle her. The press is given to excess but there must be some sort of middle ground between throwing her to the dogs and hermetically sealing her away.

How is it a positive when Congress sits on their hands for 2 years?Slumberland wrote:I hate to respond to one of your posts after going so beyond the pale earlier that you clearly don't even know where the pale is, but many people would describe that as a positive, not a flaw.JackB1 wrote:One of the major flaws with our system: One Party President + Other Party in Congress = Not Much Getting Done.
They won't be able to keep that policy in place for long. The dogs will be baying far too loudly, and it's a stupid policy. If anything it's probably just a holding tactic to get her prepped.Slumberland wrote: This is disturbing, re: Palin. Or rather, the way they've decided to handle her. On a related note, the McCain campaign is being done no favors by its mouthpieces. They're running a distinctly junior varsity team out there. I don't know if too much of the GOP talent coalesced around the other primary candidates or what, but they need to get that straightened out...yesterday.

This has been reported on from multiple sources, and (I don't think) denied by the McCain camp. An example...Teal wrote:Haven't we had quite enough 'rumors' from the Left about Palin in the last few days? For weeks, advisers close to the campaign said, Mr. McCain had wanted to name as his running mate his good friend Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, the Democrat turned independent. But by the end of last weekend, the outrage from Christian conservatives over the possibility that Mr. McCain would fill out the Republican ticket with Mr. Lieberman, a supporter of abortion rights, had become too intense to be ignored.
With time running out, and after a long meeting with his inner circle in Phoenix, Mr. McCain finally picked up the phone last Sunday and reached Ms. Palin at the Alaska State Fair. Although the campaign’s polling on Mr. McCain’s potential running mates was inconclusive on the selection of Ms. Palin — virtually no one had heard of her, a McCain adviser said — the governor, who opposes abortion, had glowing reviews from influential social conservatives.
What is Palin going to do when confronted with world leaders that are a lot more unfriendly than the press or our own media?Slumberland wrote:

Here is an idea for the media...Instead of treating her like a hollywood ho on an Enquirer cover or as the second coming of Mother Theresa. Treat her like they do Biden.Slumberland wrote:This is disturbing, re: Palin. Or rather, the way they've decided to handle her. This might be splitting hairs, but I think the pressure was probably not to take Palin, but to NOT take Lieberman.Jared wrote:This has been reported on from multiple sources, and (I don't think) denied by the McCain camp. I stand corrected on that point, despite the fact that I do agree with McCain's assertion.wco81 wrote:RobVarak wrote:I've never once heard McCain suggest that Obama would sacrifice the war for his own ambition.

I also stand by the larger point. The Obama campaign continues to react to every substantive criticism of its candidate as an attack on his character. Saying that someone lacks knowledge or judgment is fair. The GOP was far more gracious in its response to Obama's scare-mongering in his acceptance.

I agree, but it's very odd that Lieberman was attached to McCain's hip the past several month's and McCain was never in contact with Palin until a few days before the pick. Whether or not you now like the pick doesn't change that it didn't look very "maverick-like". Makes you think the party is running the candidate, rather than the other way around as McCain would have you believe.Teal wrote:Palin was a much better pick, anyway. I love Joe Lieberman. But he'd have divided the party tremendously.
