I can't believe McCain is giving his speech OPPOSITE the Redskins V Giants game tonight! Nice timing.

I'd rather watch the RNC than football, and I am not a McCain supporter. The NFL level of play has diminished in the last several years I can't even watch it anymore. I know, that's another thread.

Sarah Palin delivered a powerful speech last night, but she did not "wing it."

That is what Erick Erickson, citing sources close to McCain, has written on his blog, RedState.

Erickson writes that "the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech."

This claim has been picked up on Drudge and could quickly enter into the insta-mythmaking about a speech that need not be embroidered.

Perhaps there were moments where it scrolled slightly past her exact point in the speech. But I was sitting in the press section next to the stage, within easy eyeshot of the teleprompter. I frequently looked up at the machine, and there was no serious malfunction. A top convention-planner confirms this morning that there were no major problems.

Erickson writes that the same malfunction happened during Rudy Giuliani's speech earlier in the night. Again, I watched the teleprompter during this speech and it worked without problem. Giuliani, as is his wont, simply decided to go off-script and add some new lines, such as one attacking Obama for his "bitter" comments.
So one blogger has more credibility than another blogger? They're BLOGGERS. I couched what I said as not necessarily credible because it was bloggers who put it out. You refuted it with another blogger, claiming it as god's truth.

Well that was just one link...didn't have time to post every primary source on the subject. To clarify, what Fox and MSNBC are reporting (which is from a McCain campaign official) is that her teleprompter didn't pause at specific applause points, so that (at times) the teleprompter went a few lines ahead of her. But there's no eyewitness reports (that I've seen) of the teleprompter going down, or her winging it.

From what I understand, it isn't that the prompter quit working...it's that the controller couldn't get it to stop scrolling, and that it never stopped scrolling, after a point in the speech. Apparently it did it during Guiliani's speech as well, because he went WAY off his prepared speech, and went so long as to force the RNC to adjust by not playing the bio video of Palin prior to her speech.

So I used bad wording by saying that the teleprompter quit working. What they seem to be saying is that it quit pausing altogether. My wife noticed last night at one point, Palin said 'Oh...okay' after looking back at the teleprompter. Apparently then, she noticed that her speech kept going way past where it was supposed to be.

Man there's too much stuff on TV tonight

I'm going to be switching between the football game, a movie and the RNC convention.

Either way i'll probably wait til after the speech and watch a tape of it on the C-SPAN site. I kinda feel bad for McCain that his big night is in conflict with the opening night of the NFL season between two teams representing the two most important markets for a politician.

I'm saying all religous ppl are crackpots, regardless of what politics or religion they subscribe to / practice. I know that will offend many, but that is my personal view. Not everyone will agree to that I know, but it's a internet forum and you post what you believe. Again, if it offends anyone I'm sorry, but that is my personal belief when it comes to religion.

added : just to be clear, when I say evangelical, I am not just saying Christians but all other religions too. I'm sure there are born again Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddists etc....

The game is on before the speech. That's why it's on at 7 PM on the East Coast. For me, I get home after work and it's time for football at 6!

I've never been called a crackpot before. I guess there's a first time for everything. While I don't generally go to church I do have a strong believe in the moral principles of my religion and I do believe in God.

I sometimes believe that those that totally reject God/religion out of hand are missing something in their soul.

Anyways I don't want to turn this into a religious conversation but God has played a part in my life and I think the Lord for my being on this planet.

I notice that a lot of liberals are hypocrytes. They preach understanding and kindness, but are the first ones to sterotype, label, and show intolerance for those not like themselves.
