True dat. It also seems that if you send the invite to a friend, you are locked-in as the Home team. Kinda lame because then u have to decide "who invites who" just for home team...Spooky wrote:Why, oh why did f*ckin' EA leave out the ability to choose weather settings and stadiums for online play!?!?!?! Especially for 'friends only' matches??????
I heard that there are no options even for local 2-player games. WTF!?!?
EDIT: Also, can anyone explain how the "Reading Play" feature works. It pops-up every so often...
Single controller trick does work, except I had to control the other team for the kickoff and I wasn't able to collect any points to unlock sh!t. Which isn't a big deal to me. Unless I did something wrong,if you can live with that,it does work w/ single controller.TheGamer wrote:^yes, for the cpu. the sliders are updated in the very first post. But I do use Heelfan's sliders for me. Another trick that seems to work if you don't have 2 controllers is to start the game as the opposing team and just before kick off switch back to your team. Supposedly, whatever sliders you are using under your profile will stick to the cpu. I haven't tried this yet, but seeing that the dummy profile settings stick, I would assume the same would work.
And it does make a difference. Had the best game yet. As previously mentioned, the robo QB went away. I was Cle(except for the kickoff

I suck at passing. I threw 6 picks that led to 13 points, managing only a FG myself. In the 4th I picked off a tipped pass and took it to the house. And after 6 plays forced a punt, and engineered my only drive of the game. Jamaal Lewis was chewing up yards slowly but surely, then hit em on 2nd and 2 w/ play action pass 34 yds to Braylon Edwards on an out route that the TB def back went for the pick and whiffed, and pulled out a 17 - 13 win.
The dummy thing works. It might pay to pick up another controller though,if you don't want the same sliders,or if you don't mind not being able to pick the uni's for the team your ultimately going to control.

The 360 version hasn't been confirmed to be part of the deal.Rodster wrote:I just found out scanning the the boards at cheapassgamer.com that Target has discounted Madden '09 CE ( $44.98 ) for both the PS3 and 360.
I'll see if I can snag a copy tomorrow.
The PS3 version is definitely out there;some places at 44.98,some at 62.98,and some places not on clearance at all.
HipE wrote:I saw at cheapassgamer today that Madden 09 CE for PS3 has been clearanced at many TARGET stores nationwide to $44.98. I checked my local store and sure enough, even though the price on the display case is $89.98, it scanned at $44.98. Even though I didn't plan on picking the game up, at that price I couldn't pass it up.
Anyone want to swap their 360 version for my PS3 version?
Edited: Added store name
I guess I posted in invisible ink on Monday
Played at S.D. last night as the Raiders and lost 33-21. LT ran all over me with 195 yards. Still having trouble with the CPU QB as Rivers went 20-25. Way to precise.
Anyways, I like this game and am having a good time with it, but when you slow it down, it has some glaring problems.
First play of the game SD goes deep, which was great, but my corner was right there, jumped and magically, the SD receiver came down with it. I looked at the replay and the ball literally went right through my corners arm. Right through it. It was almost like the play was pre-determined.
On offense, I have no idea some times what my O-line is thinking/doing. They run away from the D-line and let them through. It is quite comical sometimes the blocking that they do/don't do. Really ugly.
I guess I have to not look for those things, but when I make a perfect call against the D, have a guy wide open but don't have time to throw because my lineman is a dumba$$, it is frustrating.

I find that if I get pressure on the quarterback their completion percentage will be around 60-65% and if I don't it will be around 80-85%. To me that's pretty realistic. Maybe the numbers are slightly high but the results are what generally happens in a football game, if the qb has time his completion % goes up and if he's under pressure it goes down. And I'm still playing with the My Skill settings and getting great results. Especially now that it has had several games to adjust the settings too rather than just a handful.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I used to hear Jeff George say the same thing all the time!Pete wrote: . . . but when I make a perfect call against the D, have a guy wide open but don't have time to throw because my lineman is a dumba$$, it is frustrating.

Seriously though, the game is far from perfect. For example, I firmly believe there is no way any kick can be returned for a TD. Never. Not even if the coverage team tries to get his players out of the way. Not a punt, not a kick off, not a field goal, nothing ever. There something that's just not 'wide open' enough about open-field play, and I don't know if it's super-human pursuit ability or what. It also affects the passing game, because it's almost impossible to get any YAC since it's so hard to break that first tackle, and even if you do, there is a crowd around you immediately. Similar thing, I think, in the difficulty of breaking long runs from the middle. Even when I am through that first line, the hole shuts so fast. I've had a few runs between the tackles that went for 10 or 12 yds, but nothing really long broken off. I think NCAA is a lot better in these areas, and a lot more wide-open in general.
But hey, I am loving this game online against friends. Every game I've played has been a lot of fun, and I really feel I'm in control especially as I get more and more used to the controls in terms of breaking tackles and such. Turns out there actually is a vertical passing game in there too, you just have to know how to get to it!
I feel the same way. There will be times when there seems to be a HUGE hole open in the middle and somehow I get nailed out of nowhere.Zeppo wrote:

I think most of this has to do with the CPU reaction time, which you can't adjust. Once I did the dummy profile settings and reduced this, it made a huge difference. I scored on a 35-yard draw out of the gun with Tomlinson, something I don't think I've ever done in a Madden game.Spooky wrote:I feel the same way. If they include CPU sliders in a download, I also think that will help a lot.
I redid my madden iq test and got a better score.
So I started a new franchise with the colts, and I'm getting great games.
I had my first game w/ the Bears and lost 10-3 where Tommie Harris made Peyton Manning fumble and ran it in to the endzone. I couldn't run or pass on the bears d. I had a last chance w/ 2 min left but my pass was int in the endzone by Tillman.

I played my 2nd game vs the Vikes and AP ran all over me, first time on 'my skill' level I've ever had the cpu run on me. He got about 70 some yards, and Minn was up most of the game, but in the 2nd half, I finally found some offense and won the game 17-10.
This is the first Madden game since the days VC genesis days I actually made the game that I consider exceptional. This includes ps1/ps2/xbox/and previous x360 versions.

I'm just trying to see if i can get my video embedded....
Hester on a 99 yard return:

I ended up losing the game 20-17 after Gould fell short on a 55 yard FG attempt with 45 seconds left...... I should have gone for it on 4th and 4.

Question for Terry the Hawk of Rage or anyone else doing some 'superstar' mode:
What is up with practice/ training camp? You can't change plays, is that right? And does it ever end, or are you supposed to quit when you get sick of it? What's the purpose? Do those points really add up and make a difference, or should I just skip to the games? And for those non-QBs, can you explain the blocking controls if any? Is there a strafe button? It seems to be in the control list in the game, but it doesn't seem to function in any of the situations when I'm trying to block as a TE.

Pretty interesting reading this Ian guy's posts over at OS. Sounds like he agrees with me in that the guys who have been in charge of next gen Madden for the past few years have been the WRONG guys for the job:
"As a few people have said, as I've been working on the planning process for 2010, I honestly don't think that the one year cycle is truly the biggest issue, nor has it been. It's tough to make MASSIVE changes obviously, but IMO, it's all about design direction - the last 3 years of design direction (I don't count 06) haven't melded with what you all really want out of Madden. The good news is that the Madden 2010 design team follows a design direction that is MUCH closer to yours. We definitely shook things up a bit - there isn't a single designer on my team that was on the 07, 08, or 09 teams."
It's about time the old crew got kicked to the curb. Hopefully the new guys a) want what so many of us want out of a football videogame, and b) have the talent to make it happen.
