Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies — that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same.

Apparently their hypocrisy detector is still on the blink. It's ok to put a product of the corrupt Chicago machine with less than one Senate term under his belt and no foreign policy or executive experience IN the Oval Office, but not someone with greater experience than that a heartbeat away?

Is the office all hung over from post-speech partying or something, or were they just not prepared with any opp research on Palin?

No kidding. I love the line about "agenda of Big Oil." A simple Wikipedia search would have uncovered this about Palin's energy policies as Alaska governor:

Energy policies

Palin's tenure is noted for her independence from big oil companies, while still promoting resource development.[11][13] Palin has announced plans to create a new sub-cabinet group of advisors, to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska.[16]

Shortly after taking office, Palin rescinded thirty-five appointments made by Murkowski in the last hours of his administration, including the appointment by Murkowski of his former chief of staff Jim Clark to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority.[17][18] Clark later pled guilty to conspiring with a defunct oil-field-services company to channel money into Frank Murkowski's re-election campaign.[19]

In March 2007, Palin presented the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA) as the new legal vehicle for building a natural gas pipeline from the state's North Slope.[20] Only one legislator, Representative Ralph Samuels, voted against the measure,[21] and in June Palin signed it into law.[22][23] On January 5, 2008, Palin announced that a Canadian company, TransCanada Corp., was the sole AGIA-compliant applicant.[24][25] In August, 2008 Palin signed a bill into law giving the state of Alaska authority to award TransCanada Pipelines a license to build and operate the $26-billion-dollar pipeline to ship natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48, through Canada. [26]

In response to high oil and gas prices, and in response to the resulting state government budget surplus, Palin proposed giving Alaskans $100-a-month energy debit cards. She also proposed providing grants to electrical utilities so that they would reduce customers' rates.[27] She subsequently dropped the debit card proposal, and in its place she proposed to send Alaskans $1,200 directly and eliminate the gas tax.[28][29]

Granted, it is Wikipedia, but the old Wikipee has come a long way from its early days when any kook could try to rewrite history.

Take care,
PK

Not too smart. They should know Palin. Like you said before, she has more executive branch experience than Obama, McCain and Biden...combined.

um......they're all hypocrites. Why does this surprise any of you? It's part of the political game. Obama / McCain, they all do it.

But I think he should have come out with a more congratulatory remark first. Maybe he did.

Jack, don't take this the wrong way, but I'll bet you have a good chance of getting on camera during that convention :D

That is pretty cool that you are going, and I hope you have a good time. Believe it or not, I would be more interested in going to the RNC convention than the DNC one.

As for the Pallin pick, I don't think her gender will hurt her at all. I believe that if a candidate is deemed qualified, most voters have gotten past their gender. After all, there have been female leaders in some of the most combative sections of the globe.

Believe it or not I saw quite a few brothers over there this morning. Plus they all speak so well. (Chris Rock reference).

Thanks man. It should be interesting to say the least.

So by picking Palin, is McCain saying the experience argument doesn't matter anymore?

Teal:

I saw that same cover, and it must be photo-shopped. I know Palin had a photo shoot for Vogue, but I don't think she made the cover.

Plus, where's the issue number and date under the Vogue masthead? Looks like a nice fake to me.

She's hot, though: I wouldn't doubt if that's what her equipment looks like under the fur scarves, North Face jackets and wool sweaters. She's the hottest Alaska export since Janine Turner on "Northern Exposure."

:)

Actually he's saying that his pick has more experience that the candidate at the top of the opposing ticket.

As for them all being hypocrites, I agree to a degree. It's when they're sloppy or dishonest in their hypocrisy that I find it noteworthy.

wow.

Let's see now, she's a what .....or trying to be a what......CELEBRITY!

Someone brought up Hypocrisy, they're right!

So is McCain telling me now that experience doesn't matter since he picked someone with no foreign policy experience? Isn't that what he's been telling us for the last 2 months? And is McCain also telling us that he's basically picked an older Paris Hilton after telling us for the last 2 months we don't need a celeb in the WH?

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Just saw this press conference. McCain's messaging has changed overnight. He's now running as the Washington reformer/outsider again.

Yes but it's also damning that his pick has more executive experience then he has.

BTW that was one sloppy arse press release by the Obama camp. Shame on them.

Gah! I wish he'd stick to one message damnit. Saying he's an outsider/reformer opens himself up to attack ads that point to all his insider connections and dealings in DC.

I think we all know VP doesn't matter. Unless your a person like Bush who relies on their VP, I don't think McCain or Obama will rely on theirs like Bush has. I for one really don't give a hoot about the Biden vs Palin debate. Everyone votes for the top of the ticket.

Boy I do agree with this on both counts.

The logic here is...

2 years of experience as governor is more than 2 years as Senator for Obama and 30 for Biden. With that logic, and what Obama should have said, was she has more executive experience than you as well.

Obama's camp should have just said, we welcome her experience as Alaska's governor. We also look forward to hearing her debate Joe Biden.

How can you say you are the agent of change and then the press release is the same exact political BS. Did anyone in the Obama PR office think about that? And the thing is Obama doesn't need to attack like he does.

See, this is what I am talking about. Ok, I got to give credit to McCain for going away from the Traditional Republican pick and picking a woman. But these sexist comments have got to stop! When will we start to treat women with respect. She's a governor and soon to be VP nominee but most of you guys still describe her like some street whore. Shame on you! Especially you PK, you should know better.

I think they were caught off guard and just said whatever came to them at the time. Sort of like McCain teams response to Obama's speech last night where they gave some bs political mumbo jumbo. I agree, they should have handled it with more grace.

Is this better?
During her first year in office, Palin moved away from the powerful old guard of the state Republican Party and has refused to kowtow to the powerful oil industry, instead presiding over a tax increase on oil company profits that now has the state's treasury swelling.

Palin's confrontations with the state GOP began when Murkowski named her chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. There, Palin exposed current Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich, who was also on the commission, for ethical violations.

In 2005, Palin co-filed an ethics complaint against Murkowski's longtime aide and then attorney general, Gregg Renkes, for having a financial interest in a company that stood to gain from an international trade deal he was helping craft.
And she's the mother of 5 and fuc*ing hot!!!!

Siam is back!!

I was just in doctor's office(I'm fine, thanks) during her speech & people were laughing at her. At least she lightened the mood. My fav was when she said "My husband is World Champion Snow Machine Racer!" Neato!

I think the pick is interesting, but Biden is gonna slice&dice her in a debate...
