Since 2000 MSNBC, CNN and Fox have essentially abandoned anything but the thinnest pretense of objectivity. It's a return to the 19th c. newspaper model, with the networks all but house organs for the parties.
What pisses me off most is not their biases, but the fact that they have used editorial content to draw an audience at the expense of the product itself. Fox is a wastleand when it comes to production and talent and employs Bill O'Reilly. CNN is basically People magazine for politics at this point, and anyone who can sit through more than 30 seconds of Keith Olberman should get a ticker tape parade down Broadway. That guy makes Rush Limbaugh look like Dorothy Parker.
Very well said. I never thought I'd turn to "The McLaughlin Report" for balanced political commentary, but the sad state of the three cable news networks has driven me that way.

LOL! Nah, it's just that the vast majority of the people hired by FNC are mean spirited to some degree or another and so it doesn't help that they come off so badly in the looks department.
I actually like a few people at FNC like Geraldo, Alan Colmes and Bill Hemmer.

You find obviously facts very upsetting.
What part of your statement was fact other than cuting taxes and letting the deficit rise? Other than that, the rest is just opinionated ranting. Bush WON by the rules we have in place. Deal with it already.
It's a fact that Bush got less votes than Gore, not an opinion. Bush said the reason for going to war with Iraq was WMDs but there weren't any there, and it's subsequently been shown that the pre-war intelligence was cherry picked in order to justify the invasion.
Are you really going to take offense at me calling Bush a hard right, neocon? I thought you (and him) would take that as a compliment.
-- Outsider.
-- Woman.
-- 28 years younger than McCain. Younger than Obama.
-- Supposedly very bubbly.
-- Mother of five who can appeal to broads who loved Hillary. Her newborn child has Down's syndrome, so that will generate some empathy. Her oldest kid is serving in Iraq, which will counter Beau Biden.
-- Supposed reformer in Alaska.
-- Life NRA member.
-- Farther right than McCain on many issues, which will appeal to the far right.
-- Experienced in energy issues, as that's a BIG deal in Alaskan politics and business.
-- Hot.
I've never heard Palin speak or campaign, so I'm not sure about her oratorial or debate skills. One would think that Joe Biden could tear her to shreds in a debate, but we'll see. I don't think Biden can be as nasty or aggressive toward Palin in a debate as he could against a man because that may turn off some voters as condescending or sexist, so that may be another check in the McCain column.
Interesting pick. Again, it's encouraging to me as an American that we're going to make history in November either by putting a black dude in the Oval Office or a broad one heartbeat away from the Oval Office.
That's definite progress.
Take care,
PK

Bill Hemmer? BILL F*CKING HEMMER? The biggest Ken Doll in American cable news?
I only like Hemmer because he's a former CNN'er. I like to think he's secretly sabotaging FNC
Besides, he's harmless in the spot he's in. He doesn't hide his lightweight status compared to John Roberts at CNN who tries to pass himself off as some intellect when I remember as a kid when he was on CITY TV in Toronto under the name J.D. Roberts and being the biggest buffoon who only had a job because of his looks.
Honestly, it's also nice to see someone from one of the "outpost" states get on a national ticket.
Hawaii and Alaska are treated and respected like territories or vacation spots by the vast majority of Americans, so it must be pretty uplifting for Alaska residents to see one of their own in the spotlight. Hell, I bet 50 percent of Americans couldn't even find Alaska on a damn map.
Again, it's just uplifting to see that presidential politics are reflecting ALL of America, not just the states that are key "battlegrounds" or that have huge population centers. A Romney pick would have been an overt ploy to secure Michigan in November.

Someone may want to let all those National Review readers who voted for her in a poll a few weeks ago that they're not Conservatives
Not to sound chauvinistic, but consertvatives that subscribe to National Review and the ones in the voting booth in November are slightly different crowds. She is "progressive conservative" (if that definition makes sense) and those are probably okay with McCain by now, or will be by November, unless he decides to stand up at a gay wedding or something. It's the "conservative conservatives" (I am losing you, aren't I?) will be less likely to pick a woman, especially when there is a decent possibility of her actually becomein Commander in Chief.
I am impressed that you only had one objection to my comment. Progress

Are most Americans that dense? I do agree with you, it's nice to see every part of America represented in some small way this election cycle. I know some pundits blow a lot of hot air about how this is one of the most important elections ever but in some ways there's a lot of truth to it. No matter what happens history will be made. You can't really say that about any election.

I guess this means we'll be going to war with Spain. Remember the Maine!
The Conservative Party here in Canada used to be known as the PC party. In fact, for a long time the PC's had a very strong alliance with the GOP in the US. Anywho last woman with the PC moniker got run out of Canada and moved to Hollywood. It wasn't her fault though as she was left with the mess Mulroney had left behind.
(and that's your Canadian political reference for the day)

I've seen several speeches, as well as a number of TV interviews. She's extremely personable and articulate, but she has definite regional accent and uses a lot of colloquialisms. You wouldn't be surprised to hear her suggest that she doesn't agree 100% with your police work. A nice blend of intelligence and approachability, although I'm sure that the Liberal intelligentsia will find her easy pickings for satire though.
I think she'll be able to stand up to Biden. She's definitley tough and smart enough, and she'll make him look like a buffoon if he tries to rhetorically steamroll her.
I'm going to go back to listening to the talking heads tell me what a surprise it is, even though I've been calling her the best choice for weeks LOL

Hey Rob since you're so well connected on GOP politics what do you think of the idea of Pawlenty. I heard his name mentioned in the last few days and i've seen him interviewed. He seemed like a nice guy and hey, how can I hate anyone who likes hockey?

Hey, Palin likes hockey too!
I'm almost certain that Pawlenty was Plan B. He's a personable guy and could certainly have fit with McCain. Conservatives like him well enough. He's young enough that he's still got a good future, but Palin is a far better choice.

I am a member of the Libertarian Party but worked with and for John McCain a couple of years ago. I also worked for Harold Ford and Joe Lieberman. I worked on both side of the asle. Out of the three, Ford was pond scum and John and Joe were top shelf. When I worked for McCain he wasn't well liked by his party. He could give a shitless. I liked that.
I have never been to a political convention before. So as a family we are going to take it in. It just so happens to be the RNC.
We only live 7 blocks from the Xcel Center.
We were there this morning and I meet some friends that still work for McCain, they hooked me up with some tickets for all Xcel events and invited my family to a dinner event with McCain his new hottie Palin.
I will post pictures.
Anybody rag me on this,I'll put this kid on your arse.
Have a great time Jackdog i'll look for you on the tube!
As an aside, that's pretty disappointing to hear about Harold Ford. He projects nicely on TV. I guess some guys are just good at hiding their true selves.
I always thought McCain and Lieberman were cool guys though so it's great to hear that they're pretty much transparent that way.

Jack, don't take this the wrong way, but I'll bet you have a good chance of getting on camera during that convention
That is pretty cool that you are going, and I hope you have a good time. Believe it or not, I would be more interested in going to the RNC convention than the DNC one.
As for the Pallin pick, I don't think her gender will hurt her at all. I believe that if a candidate is deemed qualified, most voters have gotten past their gender. After all, there have been female leaders in some of the most combative sections of the globe.

Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies — that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same.
Apparently their hypocrisy detector is still on the blink. It's ok to put a product of the corrupt Chicago machine with less than one Senate term under his belt and no foreign policy or executive experience IN the Oval Office, but not someone with greater experience than that a heartbeat away?
Is the office all hung over from post-speech partying or something, or were they just not prepared with any opp research on Palin?

The Boogie Man is one of the most legendary goons in the NHL. A real "missing link" caveman type. You'll enjoy seeing him this winter at the Xcel with the Wild.
We'll look for you on TV next week! Well, Sheila will. She didn't watch a second of the Dems' convention, but I'm sure she'll tune in to see her party's pep rally.
