Got a PSP for Christmas...now what?

Thing about the Madden bundle is, is Madden a better game than God of War, which also has a bundle?

One advantage of the Madden bundle is the Memory Stick but you can apparently get SD to Memory Stick adaptors for about $6.

I agree, GoW would clearly be the better game, but I do like the memory stick pack-in plus I prefer the Mettalic Blue and dislike the Kratos silkscreen. In fact, the Red PSP, overall, is probably too bold for my taste.

There is also some speculation about a new PSP model, based on FCC filings (I don't know if Wifi requires FCC certification or maybe they're implementing a cellular phone or GPS or something like that).

The current thin model is suppose to be the 2001 model. This speculated one would be 3001.

PSP sales are strong, especially in Japan. So you wouldn't think they'd have a big reason to come out with a PSP2 soon.

But there is some excitement about games on the iPhone, which Carmack recently claimed has more power than the PSP.

Developer interest seems more to do with the expected high sales of the iPhone and the App. store more than it being a great games device.

Still, Sony may want to refresh the PSP. I don't think more power is the answer (as the DS shows) but maybe better battery life, conveniences like built-in storage.

PSP 3000 is announced in Leipzig.

Same form factor as the 2000 (Slim) but with a "better screen" and a built-in mic.

I never looked but on craigslist, there are hacking services and people selling hacked PSPs with burned DVDs full of games all the time.

You'd go over to his place, or meet in a public place, since the PSP is easily transported.

Probably people who did unlocking of cell phones looking for a quick buck or too.

They advertise $20.

Now, maybe if it isn't done right, it bricks your PSP.

If the guy is experienced, maybe you tell him to throw in a DVD full of ripped games.

When I hacked mine it was before this Pandora Battery stuff but from what I've heard the PB isn't too difficult. The problem is it costs money. Well worth it for custom firmware IMO though. I spent $80 to hack my DS and I've never regretted it.

Yeah I bought it at Kmart so I have 90 days which takes it into November. It's just that blue is my favorite color and the Metallic Blue PSP looks awesome. Besides Madden '09 on the PSP is the best Madden I played in years.

Tough choice indeed. If I knew Sony was making a Blue PSP 3000 it would be real easy. I'll probably return it within 90 days.

I think it's either a 4 GB memory stick duo or R&C, not both.

Two different bundles releasing at two different times.

You may be able to get cheaper memory by getting an adapter and using SD cards instead of MS-Duo.

Well the better screen and mic are something.

But really, they need to come up with a PSP2 which has built-in storage and better battery life.

Better graphics isn't really needed because the DS shows people don't expect better graphics on a little screen. Better battery life would be more useful on a portable.

Good point on the screen. It's not a huge selling point for me because the current PSP screen looks good. Now if they announced a high rez screen with no ghosting then that would be a selling point.

What the PSP really needs are quality games and as you mentioned better battery life. That's one reason why I don't use it outside.

$40 isn't too bad. Once I get the custom firmware, is it easy to play games and stuff on it without the disks? Using games I own already, of course.

Is it possible to switch back and forth between the official and custom firmware?

Who knows, Sony might introduce some features you want to use.

Who knows, they talk about attachments for GPS, cell phone, maybe a front end for controlling their Play DVR thing for the PS3, etc.
