Also, there are no old 'great' teams?
You have to start an online match. You'll be prompted to download the online roster. You can use that roster offline by loading it.

quick impressions :

-players look little smaller than ncaa players

-not as colorful as ncaa, but more looks more detailed.

-night lighting I don't like, prefer NCAA's.

-Gameplay : wow, much harder than NCAA. Some of the Flat and Outs that always work in NCAA don't here. The Defenders are quick and fast. Running is much more fun too. Controls are good too, much tighter.

Games :
bears at packers : man this game was boring. I was like this gameplay good, but game just boring, zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Then I thinking maybe it's because I am playing bears. I win game 6-0.

Indy at Niners : I niners. Wow what a difference. Yes, Bears are boring ass team in madden just like real life. I got stuff by Indy defense, and it was great. I had a good game, niners couldn't do anything but Gore had soem good spurts on runs. He did get stuffed a lot too. Manning did great passing vs me. I ended up losing 21-0.

so first impressions i say its ok. I dont know how I will have time for 2 football games. If I just avoid the boring ass Bears, then I will enjoy the game somewhat.

added : the music songs playing during the menu are horrible. Just had some guy singing about wax off was on, like he was cleaning something, wtf!

ANYONE UP FOR ONLINE 3 MIN UNRANKED right now?

added : game 3 falcons vs niners (me) : i end up winning 16-13 after blowing 16-0 lead in 4th qtr. I got like 5 sacks in the game, and 3 int's. But I got pass happy at the end when I should have just run and threw 2 picks, one returned back for 97 yard td. Game was fun , especially running with Gore.

I think I will use niners as my franchise team.

I like the game, hopefully it'll last me more than 2 weeks like last years game did. I think it will since last years game was basically the same game over and over again. This year appears to have some variety in the games.

Nobody want to play online tonight? This or NCAA is fine with me. I usually do 3 min qtrs online since 5 min take soo long to play online. Up to you though if you want to do 5 min.

Was having a good time, and still am, but little thing at end of game was bs.

I was jets vs vikings and it was a great game. I won 3-0. Defensive struggle. Had hard time running and Farve was being pressured well. I stopped the Vikes and one thing that this game has NCAA doesn't is pass rush, which is great.

One bad thing about vikes was they passed more than ran. Having a great RB, I would think most of their playcalls would be runs.

s*** thing happened at end. Vikes drove down field, and were at the 30 yard line with like 20 sec to go. They didnt call a to to go for the game tieing fg but instead ran a play where their qb scrambled and was caught. I don't know if this is a broken thing but they should call timeout and go for the fg.

But overall I like the game so far. It plays tighter and I like that I can have a pass rush and so can the cpu. Running is challenging which I like.

Anyway, one of you guys playing online tonight or not?

Sorry wco, Rodster, and G7 didn't think to post any impressions for the PSP version. Basically if you liked last year's you should definitely like this years. If you're looking for all of the new features of the 360/PS3 version you'll be disappointed. The gameplay seems very fine-tuned now as I would imagine the PS2 version would be. It looks like they added Superstar mode but I've only played a couple of exhibitions. I've played every version of PSP Madden and I think this is the best one of the bunch. While there may only be a few new features the gameplay seems ahead of last year's version. If you're looking at it a a portable football game I think you'd be very happy with it. If you're looking at it to be more than that you'll likely be disappointed. It's worlds ahead of the DS version.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.

Just curious, really, as I'm not sure if I could get through an entire. . . . quarter against the CPU if they're that long, but, you know. Online, 6 minute quarters seem to give enough possessions to be fun and fair, but the games do take a while.
50-55 so far...thats through the 4 games after I settled on 9 mins. 10 would probably be perfect but even Im not that nuts :P

From OS:

Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
Solved a very rare stability issue that occured when using a couple of playbooks.
Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occured while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occured at specific points of online games.
Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it's affect.

Best wishes,

Doug

I noticed some new (to me at least) defensive formations in the Xbox1 version playing with the Jets. In their Nickel there was a 1-1-5 and I think a 2-2-5 or something like that. I never recall seeing them in previous versions of the game. Maybe they are new?

Are these in the next gen versions?

The Patriots have those, and a 'swarm' formation where the defenders are moving around at the line of scrimmage. Not sure how many other teams do, but it makes sense that the Jets have them too.

My only complaints so far (and I'm using the 'my skill' level or whatever it is called) are the running game difficulties (user/CPU) and the game is a little too grind-it-out most of the time. I had a game as the Colts where the offense was much more wide open, as it should be, so maybe it is just an issue with average offenses and worse.

I love the backtrack replays, they've already helped my passing game since I tend to get stuck on one or two receivers. And I know the hardcore crowd hates it, but during exhibitions I like using the rewind function to get another shot at a play I completely screwed up.

I'm having a hard time running too and it's getting frustrating. Passing is hard too so overall, I think it's a good difficulty level where you'll need to work on your game to succeed.

One thing you mentioned about grind it out and open game. I think you're right, it is sometimes too grind it out. Also, do you feel that all the teams play similar? I have not had enough games to really say, but off the bat in NCAA, I could tell each team had a different style of play. So far in Madden I am not getting that feeling. Seems like all the teams play the same.

I struggled at first but the combination of some slider help, using slide protection for running plays, and learning to be patient has me right at 4-4.5 yards per carry. I have been using a good running team though in the Steelers. Don't use sprint until you are in open space and push the right stick up to get an extra yard or two when you are about to be tackled. Using Heelfan's sliders the CPU can have some success against me running (Westbrook got 100 yards on me last game), but they abandon it way too quickly if they struggle early it seems.

I got the update as well and if there was a tweak in there for interceptions then I am happy. I only got to play one game last night and I didn't get any picks. So far I have only returned one interception for a TD (it happened in the first quarter of my first game ever so imagine what I was thinking). That is a big improvement over last year. Fumbles are very well done this year IMO.

I do think all the teams play the same. There are some different plays and different skill levels, but it doesn't really feel any different. There is a lot more variety in NCAA, but since there is virtually no fear of the running game, deep passes are rarely completed, and every team with a slow white QB is destined for a handful of negative rushing plays each game it really doesn't matter that much.

I see a lot of 2K in this Madden also. I think the player controls are excellent once you learn when to sprint. I only wish the strafe option was available for All Pro and All Madden but I understand the need to nerf the strafe catch crowd. I'm loving the gameplay though. The passing game is sweet and once you get some sliders going for you, the running game is awesome as well. The playbooks seem to be more limited this year but I can't say for sure.

Playing defense isn't as much fun, mostly because of the CPU quick snap and the Robo QB's. I've definitely seen some Robo QB issues...they seem to take the underneath stuff way too often so their comp % are jacked. If they would just take more chances down the field, not just in the long bombs but I'm talking about the 15-25 yard range, I think the %'s would look much better. You really have to manually control a defender to concentrate on taking away those throws to have a chance at getting an incompletion. Then the CPU running game just isn't consistent enough to worry me so I spend most of the time controlling a linebacker dropping back into a zone. Yeah, it works somewhat but you're working more to beat the Madden system and it doesn't feel as dynamic as the offense does. I do like the improved controls on defense though. Switching to a defensive back once the pass is in the air feels much tighter and the tighter player control makes it easier to get the player in position to make a play. Too bad most of the CPU passes are little 5 yard bullets.

Graphics look real nice and sharp but I think the day games in bright sunshine look much better than the night games. The night games are a little too dark but my biggest problem with the night graphics is how the field seems to glow like they're radioactive. The sunny day games and the snow games are some of the best visuals I have seen for any sports game.

The presentation stuff is improved but has a long ways to go. I think the game on the field may be every bit as good as 2K5 but the overall package is not even close. These halftime and postgame shows are pitiful, the overlays are so ugly and obtrusive (why do they cover a 3rd of the screen???), and online is pretty bare bones. Are there even replays online? I can't figure out how to get them. The online league is weak compared to the 2K5 leagues and that VIP feature in 2K was really cool.

Overall a much, much better Madden game. I'm totally digging it at this point. I haven't been this excited for videogame football in quite some time. I'm sure with more playtime some things will pop up to diminish my excitement or maybe the lack of any real presentation flair will get to em first but for now it is loads of fun.

Had a good game rushing with the Vikes at the Titans. Peterson had 72 yards and 3 tds. Also got a big run of 15 yards for him late. Still trying to figure out when to press sprint.

Just got blown out by the Skins going Martz... 42-16 as I lost My mind when Steven Jackson went down for the game. Going almost exclusively with the pass. Throwing 3 ints and fumbling twice.

Playing 9 minute quarters...I ran 68 plays to the Skins 52 for a total of 120....so 9 min qtrs are working really well as I get used to the playbook.

Also lost 3 other players for extended periods to injuries... Bulger 3 weeks. Hall 2 weeks. Avery 10 weeks.

  ...Im having a blast with this game.
