7-Eleven. It seems most of the people working there are unaware of the street date.

That's what some people were saying on OS.

Around here, the closest one to me, the people don't know what's going on even thought they have signs in the store promoting it.

Found a couple where the clerks seem to have an idea (and can speak English somewhat) but won't be until Monday.

EDIT: Did you do the buy a Snickers get $10 off deal?

I have another call to run at 0600 and there's a 7-11 close by. I'll have to check it out.

Wco,

I was so nervous/excited that I was able to snag a copy, I didn't even ask for the snicker's deal. Plus, I didn't want to give him the extra time to see that somewhere it told him not to sell it until Tuesday. I may think about going back on Tuesday possible for a $10 refund, but I don't know if it's really worth it.

Alright, real quick first impressions. I played two games that consisted of five minute quarters against the Chiefs and the Bears. I of course was the Rams.

- The Rams line is anemic. I didn't have much time to really check off my receivers.

- The CPU running game as advertised is brutal. I don't know how it'll translate when I up the quarter minutes. If I can get 50 plus yards from the CPU, I'll be content. It still needs lots of work.

- I don't see Robo QB as many people have also acknowledged. What I am seeing though is lack of pressure on the QB. That could be the play calling on my behalf as for 3/4 of the time I played, I went with "ask Madden". Towards the end, I was blitzing more and seeing a few less completions and accurate throws.

- Hammond doesn't bother me as much as those at OS are complaining about. Now mind you, I despised the radio guy so this is an improvement. It can and should get better hopefully next year. Collinsworth sounds great of course, but that's been said several times. What I would like to hear more however is the player's name. You hear the main players mentioned, but not nearly enough. That would add more to the presentation.

- Now, I know what the complaint was about camera flashes. It's definitely over done. Not a game killer of course, but a pet peeve of mine. Plus, IMO it takes away from the realism. Thankfully you don't see it all too often as the camera angle doesn't pan the crowd all too much.

- Despite the camera flashes, the game has the look and feel of a NFL game. No more looking at pillars between plays!

- The human running game is very responsive and rewarding. Jackson runs like a beast up the middle, but struggles going on the counter or pitch. As it should.

- The game is faster than NCAA 09, but it doesn't bother me. In fact, I like it better. There should be a difference between speeds of the two levels.

- There is a faint white border around the player models on the PS3 game. I hear it's not on the 360 version. It's not so so noticeable, but it's there.

- The stadiums are awesome. I love the brief shot of them before kickoff.

- In my first game, I threw three picks but they were thrown in to coverage. The Chiefs QB threw 2 picks, one of which I ran back for a touchdown. Neither myself or the CPU QB threw an interception in the second game.

- I only saw one penalty in both games, playing on All-Pro. However, there were on average 4 injuries per game.

- I love the playbooks. How anyone can sort through it within the time allotted is a genius. I read where someone said the Rams playbook was nothing spectacular, but it looked good to me.

- I don't recall seeing any shots of the head coaches. Then again, I speeded through the game.

- Kickoffs don't seem to be a problem like they were in NCAA 09.

- There's a bit of a delay on the PS3 when it comes to using the D-Pad to switch between play types (i.e. run to pass)

- I actually wanted to play a second game this evening, something that I wasn't interested in doing the past few years with Madden. I'm also looking forward to getting a game or two in tomorrow. The game has a good pace to it.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Well, I think they'll be better in real life. At least I hope.

One thing I forgot to mention was that I did see on a few occasions the CPU player running out of bounds when he could easily picked up a larger gain.

Dan just curious. Have you been prompted for the Madden patch yet? There are supposedly several patches in the works for the game.

No patches for the game out yet. There is an updated roster which has Favre on the Jets with some other changes as well. You've probably seen the list at PastaPadre's or you can go there to see what the roster update entails.

If NCAA 09 has Wide open gameplay then Madden 09 has Lockdown gameplay. Offense is a struggle on All-Pro default settings. The running game is especially tough for me right now.

It seems like the D-linemen break off their blocks too easily and the DE's are extremely fast. I really need to lay off the sprint button until I'm completely through the hole. If you start to press it just before you hit the hole that's when the d-linemen break off their blocks and wrap you up.

Running outside is difficult as well. The speed of the D is insane and I think to have success on O you really need to call the right plays at the right time. You surely can't force one style of play if it's just not there.

All this talk of Madden and Head Coach broke me. I pre-ordered the Madden Collector's Edition so I could get both. I feel excited to get the game yet dirty at the same time.

Just did the same...and I feel dirty too. Got to play both 360 and ps3 versions today in the store. Liked them both. Hard to say too much based on 10-15 min with each but it does seem much smoother this year. It was nice to no longer hear the radio announcer as well. I havent yet purchased ncaa (hoping the patch will do wonders) so this may be my only shot with the pigskin this year.

Day 3 with the game and I'm still very much looking forward to getting in a game or two this evening. I'm very pleasantly surprised with the game this year.

How do I go about downloading the latest roster update? Where specifically do I find it?

Thanks.

I don't feel dirty about buying Head Coach as that sounds great, but I do feel guilty for not waiting for the standalone release. If Head Coach is half as good as advertised then Madden is going to sit.

At least I get to use a $10 off $75 coupon from Best Buy that is timed perfectly. Since I'd pay $50 for Head Coach anyway $30 for Madden isn't bad. I wish they were packaged separately but I imagine in a worst case scenario a pristine Madden disk with a generic case could at least fetch me $20-30 on ebay.

I had a $25 Best Buy gift card which is what swayed me. I figured $65 of my own money for Madden and Head Coach was worth it considering HC is $50. Even if I just wind up playing a couple seasons of Madden that's a pretty decent chunk of gaming time.

The other thing is, if Head Coach is realistic, I am more likely to forgive Madden for less realism. I figure I can enjoy the action in Madden and use HC to nourish my sim side. And if they both suck they should still have pretty good resale value toward Fallout 3 :D

I traded in a bunch of games a few weeks ago and paid the Collector's Edition off in full. I am giddy with anticipation for tonight. I'm going to geek out and go to the midnight release and I'm actually taking the day off of work tomorrow so I can play all night and all day tomorrow. I don't feel dirty at all... well, at least not because of Madden.

I finished 2 seasons in the past week for the OS review, and I still love the game. I don't think it's perfect, as my review will point out when it's posted at Midnight, but it's by far the best Madden in recent memory.

I just wish the CPU could run, the QB's didn't throw laser-accurately (I don't have problems with completion percentage...more like the CPU going 17 of 26 with 4 picks and 3 swats by my defense, leaving only a couple passes actually being off-target and hitting the turf), and the AI running out of bounds when it could gain 15 yards. Even with that, it's still ridiculously fun to play, and it took me a good half a season to figure out how to run on the maxed-All-Madden difficulty that ludicrous "test" assigned me.

I assume most multi-platform guys are going X360 for online? I'm still not sure. I am leaning towards PS3 because I'll mainly be playing at night when everyone is asleep and I don't want to have to crank the TV volume up to drown out the noise of the 360 (wish I was joking...maybe I'm due for another RROD).

Is there any online play in Head Coach?

My main gripe as well is the CPU running. I tried posting this very question on OS, but my post was locked because one moderator already answered with his opinion. Needless to say, it wasn't a very good discussion. However, I am going to try a few of the suggestions he pointed out. I will change the quarter lengths from 5 to 8 minutes. Also, I will play four or five games with my IQ skill instead of starting over from scratch.

Even if you crank the skill way up on the CPU, they won't hold a CONSISTENT ground game, and I played my games on 7 minute quarters. That's the problem. When you boost it up, they hold their blocks better and the CPU breaks more tackles, inflating the YPC, but you won't see them churning out 4 or 5 yards a carry against a weak defense. You'll see them hit 2, 1, 1, 50, 2, 1, -5, etc.

I still have a ton of fun with it, because when they get 2 or 3 yards, and then do it again, 3rd and 4 or something is very tough to stop if the CPU drops back to pass. It can still mount 13 to 17 play drives, but it's usually not the ground game carrying them.

Damn,

Saw my reserved copy of Madden CE at EB Games today - but when I asked the clerk if I could get the game he said I'd have to wait until tomorrow. Didn't give him a hard time as those are the rules he is supposed to abide by but had to give it a shot anyway.

Oh well, some NCAA tonight to tide me over perhaps...

Best wishes,

Doug

Just curious if most people here are gonna ditch NCAA for Madden or will you keep them both?

I'm going to check out Patch #2 before officially ditching NCAA. I don't need the gaming funds enough to risk the dreaded "rebuy."
