The Jets are getting 10 wins this year and making the playoffs! QB was their main weakness. With those offseason acquisitions I thought they would be a wildcard contender even with Pennington.

During the Grossman era it has been very rare where I was watching a game and not thinking to myself that I wish we had the other quarterback. Watching Jackson was one of those rare times.

Yep,I think he's the only QB in the league that strikes fear in his own receivers. Up here they keep saying he's having a great camp. We shall see.

Don't forget, Favre is the Madden cover boy this year. He's doomed...

I was just telling a buddy of mine that Madden cover + Jets luck = Favre out for the season by week 6. But if Favre does stay healthy I expect 10 wins minimum from this team.

I will miss Pennington though. A class act and great leadership skills but that noodle arm was killing the Jets. I expect a better season from Thomas Jones too with the revamped OL and now that teams can't stack 8 men in the box.

Despite the breathless ESPN hype, it's not a stretch at all to say that the addition of Alan Faneca to the Jets' offensive line is as important or more important than the addition of Brett Favre at quarterback.

Of course, Faneca isn't a "legend," so few will agree with me. But as an effective football player at his position right now, Faneca is an equal or better than Favre.

Take care,
PK

My favorite comment on the trade comes, as so many great ones do, from the Deadspin lunatic fringe:

Threadjack, smeadjack! Campbell's a weasel. Sterling is a demi-god. Exhibit A:
Your whole generation, you drink for the wrong reasons. Your kind with your gloomy thoughts and your worries, you’re all busy licking some imaginary wound. My generation, we drink because it’s good, because it feels better than unbuttoning your collar, because we deserve it. We drink because it’s what men do.

If you don't wish to be reincarnated as Roger Sterling circa 1960, then you're lacking some serious man credentials. :)

Back to football!

Sterling is scum, he cheats on his wife every chance he gets.

Now Campbell, well let's say this, if it weren't for guys like Campbell back in the day, most of modern day U.S. business wouldn't be here today.

Most likeable guy is Draper, even though he's a phony.

Walter White is a bad-ass, no doubt.

"Let's cook." :)

I have created a separate "Mad Men" thread so we can return this thread to its regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks,

being a JETS fan, I am definitely a little excited about this coming season.
If Farve has a year anything like last, I will be very happy. Although, I am not too thrilled with Farve...the egomaniac, I will welcome Farve...the Jet's QB.

If it wasn't for Favre, we'd be hearing a lot more about TO and Romo and Pac Man, etc.

Instead, you can hear all about the latter in Hardknocks, which just started last night.

I don't see how they get in:

New England - Check
Indy - Check
San Diego - Check
Pitt, Cleveland or Cincy - Check

Wild Cards:
Jax - Check

Outside looking in on the last playoff spot:

Pitt, Cleveland or Cincy (who doesn't win the division)
Tennessee
Jets
Buffalo
Houston
Denver

The way I see things, there are a lot of teams out there playing for 1 spot. Like last year, there will be at least one 10-6 team in the AFC denied a playoff spot.

Pennington was the 15th ranked QB in the league, in 8 or 9 games last year.

Had 10 TDs and 9 ints.

He's not going to take a team to the playoffs but there are worse QBs.

Still I would think most teams with young QB prospects would rather develop youth than play a guy whose best games are behind him.

And that would have included the Jets, you would think.

I think I'd rather have Pennington than McCown for now. And neither Beck or Henne will be ready to contribute this year.
