RACE 360

Post by mixdj1 »

Looks like the console sim racing crowd will be happy ... assuming this one doesn't die like GTR 360 did:

http://www.virtualr.net/thq-announces-race-360/

At the Interactive Digital & Entertainment Festival in Cannes, THQ revealed plans to bring Simbin’s RACE simulation to Microsoft’s XBOX 360 gaming console. Entitled RACE 360, the game will feature 350 cars and 15 tracks which sounds pretty much like the RACE 07 content. Furthermore, the game will feature 12-player online multiplayer feature via XBOX Live, offline racers will be giving a splitscreen mode to compete head to head

RACE 360 will be the first serious simulation for XBOX 360 owners, enriching the choice of racing games with a proven name in the simulation world. Scheduled to be released in November, this marks the second try to launch a Simbin product for the console market. GTR for XBOX was planned to feature the 2005 FIA GT season, the game was eventually dropped by THQ and probably scrapped by Simbin, even though this has never been confirmed.

Since the PC version of race uses Image Space Inc’s gMotor engine, this opens all doors for speculations if RACE 360 will be the first game to utilise Simbin’s much discussed new Lizard engine.

I have Race '07 for the PC and if this one does get released on the 360 and turns out good i'll definately pick it up. As far as graphics engines go, even if they used the old engine it should still look good.

Is the new Simbin engine based on the rfactor 2 graphics engine???

I'll believe it when I see it.

GTR was announced as an Xbox release -- didn't happen. Grand Prix 4 was announced as an Xbox release, including screens -- didn't happen.

There's not exactly a solid track record for converting PC sims to consoles. It might be technologically possible, especially with this generation of consoles, but I'm guessing that these projects may have been scrapped after the paltry amount of pre-orders.

Most console gamers don't want sims.

Take care,
PK

I'm not familiar with the PC game, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

True dat. Personally I've come around to see the light after playing NASCAR '09 on the 360 and getting at least a feel of what sim gamers are on about. I even watched the entire pre-show for today's race at New Hampshire just to see if I could actually learn a thing or two to help my own lap times. Funny thing is I did when during the pre-race show one of the crew guys was going over proper set-ups for that track. Couldn't pay close enough attention to the actual race though as the EURO 2008 final took precedence:)

I'll be eager to see what happens in the future to this bit of news. If pre-orders will help it see the light of day then sign me up:)

Skepticism was warranted, fellas. RACE 360 is not happening. From virtualr.net blog:

>>>

My two stories on Simbin’s new XBOX 360 title created quite a stir, getting linked on various gaming websites and starting quite some discussion. 24 hours later, it looks like we´ve all been on the wrong path though as I´ve just received word from Simbin regarding the RACE 360 rumors.

”We are issuing this statement to counter false rumours currently circulating on the internet regarding a new X360 game,” Simbin’s Magnus Ling states. “We do have plans for an upcoming X360 game and an official announcement from Simbin will follow shortly with correct information on title and publisher. The information currently circulating is incorrect.”

I have to apologise for the misleading information, THQ’s announcement was backed by quite some sites though. It does not seem to be all wrong as a XBOX 360 Simbin simulation will be coming…..and those screenshots are definitely not from GTR Evolution. Either way, I´m sure plenty of people are looking forward to the official announcement.

The story is pretty much on point except for the publisher. We'll be hearing more about this title at E3. But I guess lots of games have been announced at E3 in the past and haven't come to fruition. Couple that with all the rumors of Simbin games coming to Xbox in the past that also never happened and the skepticism is warranted.

Atari has decided its next move will be an exclusive Xbox 360 racing game called RACE Pro, due sometime this autumn.

This is being made by Swedish clever-clogs SimBin, which was responsible for those very admirable GTR excursions.

RACE Pro is going for the authentic aspect of driving and has brokered some exclusive deals to reproduce Alfa Romeo, BMW and Chevrolet WTCC cars, and to recreate the Macau, Porto and Pau courses.

There are loads more cars and tracks besides, plus various championships to race in and career ladders to climb.

RACE Pro also has a casual side to ensnare a wider audience, such as a quick to play Mini Cooper Challenge and a Hot Seat mode where you pass your pad to you friends like a hot potato after a certain amount of time behind the wheel.

RACE Pro may have started life as the Xbox 360 GTR game SimBin was making for THQ but never finished. Unfortunately Atari was unavailable to clear this up.

It's alive!!

I'll get it unless it gets panned in reviews. Grid is really not doing it for me outside of poker nights. Too crazy with the CPU cars swerving all over the track.

Again, I'll be convinced when it goes gold. As I recall, there were high-res screenshots and possibly a movie or two for Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4 conversion from PC to the Xbox, and that never hit market.

I hope it does hit market for you 360 cats' sake, especially if it's not dumbed-down. RACE 07 is a decent PC sim.

Take care,
PK

Sorry, Rod. But if RACE 07 is converted from PC to Xbox 360, it will be the first real racing sim to be converted from PC to a next-gen console.

Love,
Doubting Thomas

Atari Revs its Engines With the Ultra Realistic Racing Experience 'RACE Pro'

Nothing Gets Closer to the Real Thrill of the Race Track on Xbox 360 this Fall 2008

NEW YORK, July 11: Atari (OTC Pink Sheets: ATAR) is revving it up with the announcement of the ultra realistic racing video game RACE Pro, scheduled to speed into stores this fall 2008 exclusively for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Developed by renowned award-winning game developer SimBin, a leading creator of PC racing simulators, RACE Pro brings SimBin's formidable skill and know-how to Xbox 360 for the very first time this fall.

RACE Pro recreates a breathtaking reality giving gamers the ultimate racing simulation experience, all powered by Lizard, SimBin's own physics engine. With precision physics and handling, racers will feel every bend and burst of acceleration along with every emotion from pre-race tension in the pit lanes to the exhilaration of capturing the checker flag. RACE Pro provides unrivalled realism and deep immersion into the racing world through ultra realistic car models and official FIA championships and tracks. Putting players in the driving seats of their simulated racing careers, racers will have the opportunity to work their way up the leader boards through intense training and winning key races. RACE Pro has something for everyone, allowing players of all levels to pick up and play, while offering challenging tracks and advanced modes for the more experienced players.

RACE Pro offers a wealth of cars ranging from 200 to over 1000 horse power, as well as a host of championships including WTCC (World Touring Car Championship), Formula 3000 and Formula BMW. GT cars from manufacturers including Aston Martin and Saleen take their place on the grid as well as production cars such as the Audi R8 and Dodge Viper SRT10. In addition, RACE Pro is exclusively bringing all the WTCC cars from manufacturers Alfa Romeo, BMW, Chevrolet and Seat to Xbox 360 for the very first time. For a blast of accessible fun, the Mini Cooper Challenge invites players of all abilities to take the wheel.

Gamers and racing fans alike will experience the thrill of racing these powerful cars on 13 real life tracks covering all continents, of which Macau, Porto and Pau are exclusive to RACE Pro, and US tracks Laguna Seca and Road America are brand new to SimBin fans.

"With five years worth of experience under SimBin's belt, RACE Pro ensures a unique racing experience unlike anything seen before on console," said Cyril Voiron, VP Brand Management, Worldwide Publishing, Atari. "Nothing gets you closer to the ultimate racing sensation than RACE Pro and Atari is proud to add this product to our holiday line-up."

"Having personally taken the leap from 20 years of championship racing to racing simulation development, I am really excited for SimBin to be taking its own leap from PC to Xbox 360," said Henrik Roos, CEO, SimBin Studios AB. "We are proud to be taking this significant move with Atari, our trusted partner since our very first game."

Online play via Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network for Xbox 360 and System Link support lets up to 12 players take on equally high-powered opponents and test their skills to the limit to reach the finish line ahead of the pack. For friends closer to home, the brand new 'Hot Seat' feature puts players in the driving seat for a limited amount of time before passing the controller to the next player and so on, demanding exceptionally quick reactions and precision racing from even the most seasoned drivers.

Nothing gets closer than RACE Pro, the ultra real racing simulation game exclusive to Xbox 360, scheduled for release this fall 2008.

Some (mostly-useless) hands-on impresions;
http://kotaku.com/5049232/hands-on-race-pro

This is a little troubling;
It’s still early days for the game’s development cycle, so the graphics and collision weren’t all there – but it definitely felt real to me,
Game is coming out in November and should be near complete.

At least it sounds like they haven't made any compromises about the realism factor.
