does the preview mention how this year the ball will have it's own physics and not be tied to a player anymore
seriously, why don't they focus on movements that happen the instant you press the buttons...not a second later? dynamic crowds and weather don't matter when you dont feel like you are in control. FIFA has alway had that delayed feeling, unlike WE. Why they can't tighten that up, I have no idea.
I'm a bit worried that the producer didn't know what a "quick restart" was in the OS interview...that was kind of odd.
And I agree with you Macca...my hopes are that they revert back to gameplay like in JLWECC. Are you getting the 2008 version? (I was hoping for a PS3 J-League game, but it looks like I'm going to have to wait.)

Honestly, have you read ANY of the information for this game ?

Hey J,
Yup I'm definitely picking up the 2008 version. The J-League games are just so much fun with the slower pace, the tons of different teams and stadiums (60+). I also just love the Fantasista mode - its so addictive and blows away CYC/Be A Pro.
The bit disappointment though is what you mentioned - it's still only on the PS2.
WOW! If true and we can actually sign into the EA servers, this could really be something amazingly cool. One thing I would hope for is a way to cap the size of the teams, such as if we only have six of us who want to play together, I'd rather go six on six against randoms than have our side filled up with randoms against what may not be a full side on the other team. They had a room size limit in NHL for OTP, but not in FIFA. Weird.
And of course some kind of party system where we could gather in a lobby and then search for games, where we could invite randoms who cut the muster to join us for the next game, and so on, would be nice. Memo to FIFA devs: play a little Halo3 to see what is possible.

I'd love it if they'd allow entire game replays to be saved and moved online. To be able to relive some of those classic moments that happen during games and then share them with everyone else would be awesome.
OS: Is there a way to kick with the outside of a player's foot?
Dave Rutter: HAH! Yes – we’ve added Finesse shots which allow for some of the most sublime moments in the game. By holding R1/RB your player will take a moment to place with finesse the shot…We’ve made some beautiful videos of some amazing finishing.
Umm... I don't get it. Does he mean that you can now take a Finnesse shot with the outside of the foot? Because that's a bit unnatural, usually those kinds of shots are driven. Plus, if that is the case, how do you differentiate between taking a left footed inside of the foot curler from a right footed outside of the foot Finnesse shot? Or did he just misheard the question and was talking about a regular Finnesse shot? But then again, that was in FIFA 07 and 08, so that's hardly new. Confused
Jimmydeicide wrote:If your 1 footed you can totaly do a finesse shot with the outside of your boot its the only way to curl it.
It was only Jimmy Case who blasted them that way.
I understand that, but then it will be up to the computer to decide whether to shoot with the inside of the weak foot, or the outside of the strong foot. I hope you meant "one-footed" as in one foot dominates the other.
Couple of things I found interesting at OS' preview of the game:
Another big addition this year is team tactics. There will be various sliders to help tweak not only the style of the human players, but the CPU teams as well. This means if you want a CPU team to be more aggressive and foul you more that’s entirely possible by tweaking the particular slider.
The one area that perhaps isn’t seeing a ton of improvement is the hit-or-miss approach when it comes to stealing the ball. When a player is dribbling and a defender meets him head-on, it still seems like either the defender wins the ball or doesn’t, with little middle ground in between the two binary choices.
it looks improved, but I wish they would have a feature like in a past fifa, where you can zoom in and out with the camera, when playing using tele-cam. it would allow players to zoom in just enough that you can really see the graphics but not lose the the tele perspective. with fifa 09, proevo09, and nhl09, it will be a busy winter.
Just to reply to what JRod said in the thread before it was locked;
As long as the gameplay engine in PES 2009 isn't the disaster last year's game was - the Be A Pro/Fantasista Mode in PES 2009 is going to be great and definitely where you'll be spending most of your offline time. I've been playing the newest J-League game on the PS2 and even though there are very minimal changes from last year's game I'm totally engrossed by the Fantasista/Career mode - I was playing Sunday night till 2am, something I haven't done for quite some time.

How is the new J-league game, especially wrt slowdown in Fantasista? And have they made any engine tweaks?

Hey Jared,
Gameplay wise, pretty much the SAME game as last year (almost identical). They have, however, improved the slowdown in the Fantasista close-up camera angle (I never use it anyway, though) and some of the idiotic management AI problems have been fixed. Menus are different, rosters aren't up to date (i.e no Crouch still at Liverpool) and there's NO La Liga license!
Definitely not worth importing if you have last year's game - but I just started a new Fantasista campaign once I got the game and haven't been able to put the damn thing down! Player development is a lot slower this time and there's no training in between matches. I'm 3.5 years into my career and still in the J-League (in last year's game I was playing in Holland at this point in my career) - but my personal highlite was recently scoring a hattrick against my old team Ventforet Kofu who sold me in the off-season! Take that you bastards!

You should do an overview of the Fantatista mode for us.

I'm not going to do an overview, but it's essentially Be a Pro mode for Winning Eleven, with you starting off (usually) on a 2nd division J-League team. Progression is relatively slow (i.e. you're not on ManU at 19), which is actually fun, as you work your way up. I remember my first season on last year's game, I had some three and four game stretches with no playing time, and lots of coming off the bench (like Freddy Adu at Benfica/Monaco). Was a LOT of fun, as I think that the WE/PES engine works a lot better for Be a Pro-like modes than FIFA.
