OT: Windows Office Software Advice?

Post by Diablo25 »

I'm looking to possibly purchase Windows Office 2007 for my PC (for work compatibility) but I don't want to just go to the local Staples/Office Depot and get screwed on a price. Anyone have advice on where to get it at a low price? Just wondering...thanks.

I would get the Students Edition for $129. And if you search the net you could find it for less than that. Newegg.com or Amazon.com are both good places to buy Office 2007.

If you know anyone going to Kuala Lumpur I know a great shopping mall where you can get it for about $5 :D

Otherwise, next best option in terms of price would be to grab a student or faculty license if you know anyone at a University or College.

Sorry, didn't see the 1st replay - what he said.

Best wishes,

The price is the same from all reputable dealers...at least VERY similar...so if you can't get a student/faculty edition, just buy it at Best Buy or whatever is close to you. You won't get screwed. Just don't buy more programs than you need. There are a couple different levels.

Sounds good. I just wish the student edition had Outlook. It has all the other stuff I want/need...ie. Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Oh well, thanks again.

If you know someone who is an MS employee (or can get a pass to the MS Employee store), you can get it Office 2007 Ultimate for ~$45.

Unless you're dead set on Office or a Microsoft product, why not get the open source OpenOffice? It has a complete suite of software to match Office, and it's constantly upgraded and updated since it's open source.

Plus it's free -- legally.

http://www.openoffice.org/

We use OpenOffice on our family laptop, and it works great.

Take care,
PK

I'll second that. It's as good or better in almost every area. The only thing that I've had trouble with is some of the mail merge integration with Outlook 2007. Otherwise it's a dream.

First off Leebo, thanks for the offer. Like I said, I was hoping to get my hands on the Standard edition because I need Outlook. My iPhone only works with the calendar on Outlook so it is a necessity. Stinks. Go ahead and let Jack grab your copy...mucho thanks again for the offer.

Update (for those who care) - The tech coordinator at my school hooked me up with a sweet deal on MS Office Professional Plus 2007. It has all the bells and whistles I need. With my educator's discount the price came out to be $84! I got it shipped for under $100. Giddy Up.

Need some help with MS Powerpoint. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I'm a VERY basic Powerpoint user and have a question. I am getting a projector in my classroom this year and want to put my notes in Powerpoint presentations. As I lecture I want to be able to click on my remote and "unveil" certain parts of my notes. My question involves animating text. I want to have a word or two animate on the screen when I click the mouse.

Example - In the section below, I want the text "John Adams" to animate....and then "Charles Pinkney" to animate. What I have been doing is dragging over the text I want to animate (in this case, John Adams) and then assigning an animation to it. In the slide show the entire line of text gets animated. I just want the text I have chosen to animate...not the whole line. Is that possible? Hope that made sense.

I) Election of 1800
* Fed. nominate 1.John Adams 2. Charles Pinckney

* Rep. nominate 1. Thomas Jefferson 1. Aaron Burr

from memory, it's something to do with transitions, i think you can choose one which does that.

Powerpoint is terrible for presentations tho - should be bleedin' banned.
