Tiger Woods 09

Post by 10spro »

This is no coincidence or is it EA? In lieu of his brilliant win at the US Open, here's a look at the upcoming game. Online looks improved.

Last years game on the 360 minus the rubberband AI and the absurd putting animations was a solid game. I hoped they fixed both.

I watched a video of the Wii version and the putting animation looks very realistic and not like Tiger 08 on the 360 where a 2 foot putt looks like a 40 putt.

They've also improved the graphics and put more emphasis on the Wii's controller. If they can fix the putting animation as well as the putting system on the 360 then i'll surely buy it or i'll just go with the Wii version.

I think EA finallly realized that people would go absolutely nuts for a top quality Wii golf sim.

I only wish that the ceiling height in my basement were higher for my follow-through!

The AI is the reason I don't buy this series. I highly doubt it will be addressed. It's been there for mult years across mult platforms now.

My understanding from the EP of TW09 is that the AI received a great deal of attention....guess we will find out what that means around Aug 26....

Did they mention if the Putting Animations have been addressed as well? ;)

If they made the AI more challenging, I'll be tempted to get it, look forward to any article in coming weeks to tell us so.

From the looks of the first gameplay video published at Gamespot yesterday, it does not appear so. If this is not addressed before release, I don't understand it because it has been a consistent complaint for years....

That's a shame because it looks so out of place for such a polished product. Not only that but the Putting system requires a lot of trail and error and I no doubt think the animations are tied to that. :(

Looks like the Wii version for me then.

The player set-up screens that I've seen look promising. It looks like you could set-up a golfer that players like you. But again it could just be a fancier way of upgrading your player where you start with no power, and no ability.

And they still have the same stupid mini-game system.

Maybe this will explain it better....

Could not agree more on the putting animations, but I am not sure what you mean by bad ball physics on the greens....

I think Jimmy might be referring to the Putting system as a whole which gives the impression of bad ball physics. For example you have a putt 8 feet away and you try and swing and not only is the animation off but the distance as well. It's something JRod referred to in last years game.

I found myself practicing putts on the green trying to figure how hard I need to hit the ball based on the distance. It was a trial and error kind of thing. I remember not having a problem putting in TW 2003 and TW2004 as the animation and putting system was quite easy to figure out.

EA really needs to address this as it makes the game quite frustrating at times. Hopefully the Wii version won't have this problem.

1-to-1 swing mechanic, with proper hook and slice, plus 4 player online. It took 3 years, but maybe this will finally be the game we all expected on Wii.

I would love to see a livelier ball. In TW, the ball only rolls and bounces one way, forward and with the current path of the ball.

It's too predictable.

And by a livelier ball, I guess you mean bounces, whether good or bad, it happens in real life and I would like to see that in the game as well.

What ? are you kidding ? am i seriously the only one who sees this.
Take a look at the video for crying out loud the first shot that hits the green, in the first video ive seen of 09 has both my biggest issues in it.
It doesnt bounce it sucks straight back, happens on chip shots too, as soon as it hits the green it doesnt bounce and goes into a roll instantly, if you lot think the ball reacts correctly i doubt any of you have hit a ball in real life its that obvious to me.

Is there a magic ball they make now that defies physics is that what the pro v is ?
WOW!!!!!

I can't say that the video quality on any of the videos has been good enough to even comment on the ball physics that I have seen. I will try to take a closer look at it though. Not denying anything you have seen, just have not seen it for myself, sorry.

I seen enough of it in the 3 hole demo from 08 that it stopped me from buying it.

There is not much to a golf game is there realy.

Ball physics would be #1
Swing animations in proper context would be #2
#3 for me would be setting up a proper tournament structure. On day 3 i would be matched up with a player who has the closest score to me and id play the round out with him, same thing on sunday i would be head to head with Tiger both at +1 leading the U.S. open.

What else is there realy ? Wind obviously , weather , lies and stances. There is no reason other than thinking its not needed on next gen to have accurate representations of these.

How do you rip your ACL playing golf?

Or was it one of his celebrations?
