Wow.. what a game!!!

Pittsburgh was clearly overmatched... but they came up big when it counted. Can't wait for Game 6!

The refs were terrible in OT...Those interference calls were nothing short of embaressing...I would discribe them as NBAish...Betmans vision is to be like the NBA...

BUT

The penalty that decided the game was a penalty. that WAS a a high stick.

Well thats not saying much hes an idiot .
Are you guys saying the high stick that draws blood is not a penalty in playoffs in overtime, its not 1980 its 2008 and there have been rule changes.
The guy thinks hes watching the old version im suprised he never mentioned The Gordie howe hatrick.

Nope....

That high stick was a high stick.

Those interference calls were frightening...especially in OT...in the Playoffs...in the finals...Cup on the line...

Just for the call on Zetterberg I would have that ref fired. Davorsky? I never want to see that asshole again...ever.

You squeeked in between me and 10s i was saying you to him and the reporter.
And i agree with everyone even the reporter to some extent about swallowing the whistle but during the game i called for interference on both those calls, even my lad said i was wrong but ill go back to my other post , players shouldnt have the right to just plow into the keepers its not a fair fight.

I understand what you are saying...I can almost see the second one called...maybe...maybe if it wasnt OT...but that first one was just plain terrible any day any time.

The interference calls were suspect. The four-minute minor on Hudler that created the game-winning power play was 100 percent the correct call.

I have no problem with penalties called in OT. I hated the days when refs swallowed their whistles in the last five minutes of regulation and all of OT. But there needs to be more consistency in the calls during all parts of the game.

Still, Sharp's complaints about the penalties are bullsh*t. Does he realize that the NHL changed its rules and enforcement procedures after the lockout?

Also, last time I checked, each team scored one power-play goal in the game. Also, Talbot's game-tying goal, which came due to pure grit by the Pens and pure sloppiness by the Wings, came during even-strength play.

The problem with that goal wasn't the refs; the problem was that the Wings already had the champagne bottles popped in their minds at that point.

Yep...the refs didnt decide the game...Thankfully.

You could see the Penguins gaining more and more control of the game the later into the night it went with their younger /fresher legs.

Go Penguins!!!

Lets get this sucker to a game 7.

I agree with this 100%.

In a sport that has an abundance of regular season games heavily influenced by power plays and penalties, it's ludicrous to change it during the playoffs IMO. Why would you want the Stanley Cup awarded under different rules than the regular season? I think the refs should be consistent. Unfortunately, they have been consistently bad with the goalie interference calls in this series on both sides.

Pierre McGuire was absolutely correct last night in his assessment that the NHL Board of Governors and general managers must define goaltender interference more clearly during the summer meetings. That is, if they can find a sober moment between the golf course and dinner.

Here's my beef with those interference calls. There's no consistency at all. It's OT and on both interference calls, I felt the ref just blew the whistle way too quickly. Zetterberg's call was non existent. Period. A bad call. On D.Cleary's call I already posted where I thought of him going at full speed was difficult to slow your momentum while trying to avoid the presence of Fleury. Yes, we are all supposed to protect our goalies. But yes, the league is also encouraging more offense and goals and any coach would encourage their players to go hard to the net without interfereing with the keeper. Cleary's momentum jsut carried him into Marc Andre.

Maybe Homer and Franzen are confused too, as I haven't seen them camping at will, as they are capable of in the last couple of games. They probably don't know what the hell the refs are going to call next. And that's my issue. Maybe the zebras don't know either and therefore the inconsistency on their calls lately. And it's not just last night, I saw some scratch my head calls in game four as well. Too be fair, both teams were affected.

It's the SC finals, and I just don't want the zebras to decide any game for these two great teams.

I've heard that clear channel sports stations have been given the ok to talk about hockey again (in short bursts). That's a nice outcome from this series. Ratings are up, too. Cool & Shocking!

I hope it continues. That's great news, I just read somewhere that there was more people watching that great game three in PIT than the game five between BOS-DET last week.

Pittsburgh has no gas tonight and is being plagued by the same problem that has killed it all series -- no rubber thrown at Osgood.

Man, Crosby has looked gassed the last three games, especially tonight. He has very little jump, despite his constant effort. But I'm more and more impressed with Brooks Orpik every game. The guy has been the MVP of the Finals for the Penguins with his solid positioning, blocked shots and timely, frequent hitting.

But Detroit is the new Big Red Machine. Is there an irresponsible defensive forward on this team? Nope. Every guy pays attention to his end.

And Babcock's edge in coaching over Therrien is embarrassing tonight. There's no way that Detroit should be getting the edge in matchups when Pittsburgh has the last change, but it's happening time and time again.

Finally, the inconsistent officiating has emerged again. How the hell Lilja wasn't called for interference on that blatant early hit on Hossa in the neutral zone in the first period is beyond me. And the tripping call when Maltby flopped to the ice was quite the sales job, too.

f***, so so close at the end. At least the Pens never gave up, they made us fans proud with this series.

Congrats to the Wings, they were clearly the better team this series and are very deserving champs. I really enjoyed watching them play this series, I never developed any kind of animosity towards any of their players or their coach. Classy team, and a great team to bow out to.

Watch out next year NHL, the Pens are coming

Classy Pens' fans witnessing the Cup ceremony, they all could have gone home bitching but they applauded a great Wings team. Well deserved DET, they had the best player in the series in H. Zetterberg. And yes the officials left me scratching my head again. How about the mule Franzen literally riding on Fleury in the 1st period? How's that not called? I am just glad that the series wasn't decided by a dubious call and in the end DET was always the better team all along. Another ring for Scotty Bowman, wow, how many Lord Stanley's has he won already?
