There's definitely time to join.

And I would never suggest that repeatedly dribbling into the path of the defending fullbacks is anything less than a skill :)

I'd love to use Canada....unfortunately they're not in Europe and thus not in UEFA 2008. :)

Not too late to join - check MacMan's post regarding the name (it's DSP league take 2 or something like that and the p/w is dsp). We're using teams with 3.5 stars max. I think someone's already taken Ukraine, however.

doug,

Based on his performance in the last game, Shay Given is getting the captain's armband! What was it, like 3 close range headers saved in a row from 3 consecutive corners! Madness!

FullbackS? Plural? You mean there is more than one? Maybe I should practice before I play you guys. And, in my defense, Sagna is freakishly good in FIFA!!!

Macca, I think the canadian government (all three people) is brainwashing you. It is common knowledge in the US that Canada is in Europe. Sometimes it's even referred to as the "capital of Europe". Perhaps they are keeping you out of Euros because they can't find enough people to field a team? Or maybe you guys just don't speak european...

I'll try to join in today. Does someone schedule matches, or do we just randomly play each other a couple of times and post the scores?

Well him or Robbie - though I think maybe Robbie was making a beeline for Gordon's whiskey (er water) bottle!

I think I finally figured out how to get more effective headers on net from corners - not unfortunately how to convert those in goals. I kept running my player off the back post into the middle of the area and he seemed to beat the defenders to the headers. I'm not always able to do this but it does seem to work more often than not. Defenders in the game are a little slow off the mark and I'm still trying to get the hang of defending one on one.

Best wishes,

Doug

The first post should be updated now with everyone who wants to play. I've added FDisDead and Mactep although I don't know what teams they are going to be playing with.

Just played a couple great games against Macca (1-0, 0-3) but the league standing screen is once again all screwed up. It is showing both our games as being 3-0 wins by Macca. It is an EA conspriacy against the Norwegians I tell you!

Anyway, this is a pretty annoying fact that we're going to have to deal with. For the time being please try to report your scores here in this thread after you've played the games.

Could anyone who has already played please check their scores online to see if they are accurate

Thanks!

Good games Mac - that was a lot of fun - your goal by Carew in the first game was awesome!

Maybe we should just post the scores here by default and have standings on the first page?

Norway 1 - Rep. Ireland 0

Rep. Ireland 3 - Norway 0

EDIT: If I'm not mistaken my record thus far would be;

Rep. Ireland W3 L1 D0 GF 10 GA 2

If we just update scores here and then adjust the standings on the first post that would probably more reliable, yes, no?

Every time we wrestle with another broken or poorly implimented online league structure, I'm more amazed at what NFL 2k5 managed to do so brilliantly.

I'll be around later tonight (after 10:30 Central) if anyone wants to kick around my Slovaks.

Thanks Fifa. Looks like you had a bunch of very close games. I've updated the initial post with all of the games so far.

Just FYI I'll be out of town until Friday night so I won't be able to play any league games until the weekend. I will have my laptop with me though so I'll be checking up on this thread and should be able to update the standings as people post their games.

Macca your Irish team is dominating so far!

...I should also add that Rob's Slovaks are yet to concede a goal. Can't wait to see what happens when Macca's team plays against you Rob! 0-0? 1-1?

Dave's goal was one of the weirdest, "organic", goals I have ever seen!
I believe he shot from a bit outside the box and the ball bounced straight up into the air. My goalie jumped up and tried to fist it out and punched it right into my own goal.

I screwed the pooch on that one  You're right and therefore Rob gets 1 in the GA column! Serves me right for trying to type up the results while playing matches online. Multi-tasking was never one of my strong points. :D

Ok I'm finally in.

Sorry for the delay folks.

GT: FB is dead

(with spaces)

Because the nazi bastards at XBL suddenly thought kids minds would be permanently warped if they learned an actual english word (bastard).

Anyway, I signed up with Ireland because Dave said it was free and despite me telling him twice that I said Ireland not Northern Ireland

So not sure what to do now. Apparently our tourney has two Rep. of Ireland's signed up.

Aye,

I am also Republic of Ireland. Which manager do you want to be; Trappatoni or Staunton? Since he won a championship with Liverpool I don't mind being the latter. :)

Btw, there was a roster update recently - doug'll be happy as his keeper has been noticeably upgraded (as he should be). :)

Since I don't know either, you are obviously more qualified to manage the green meanies. I actually wanted Norway or Turkey originally, but Turkey is 4 stars and Norway was taken.

Anyway, I don't know if we just have to go with two Irelands at this point or if I can drop and rejoin... thoughts?
