Yeah, JR is pretty good too, but they don't carry the 5 Vegas line...which I love. So I stick with CI.

I've heard really good things about the Rocky Patel line. I need to grab one now that I've read a DSP recommendation and see if it tops my favorite non-Cuban -- a Padron.

My favorite "regular" smoke is a Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur or a Henry Clay. The Hank Clays are ugly as sh*t, but man, I love the way they taste.

Take care,
PK
Paul, I love an Excalibur, but really...to me, the Rocky Patel's beat it hands down. The 'Edge' line from Rocky is a really good smoke, too, but those vintage 1990's man...mmmmmm :)

And db, I just tried a 5 Vegas about a month ago...great smoke, too.

Go for the Macallan 18 for that price, or if it was me, 2 bottles of the 15.

Dip the end of your cigar (If you do...) and enjoy a nice smoke as well.
Damn, Rubba, I was agreeing with everything you wrote until the last sentence. That is heresy to ruin a fine smoke by dipping it in booze! 8O

That said, I love a scotch and water and a cigar. But never dipped. :)

Take care,
PK
Don't do it often, but sometimes it brings out a nice flavor to the cigar. Of course, I'm just stepping up my cigar portfolio, so maybe the cheap cigar needed a boost.

I do have some Rocky Patels and can verify that it's one good cigar. I also enjoy the CAO brands.

Anyone else here use cigarbid.com, or is there a better site?

BTW...the Martell XO Cognac was fantastic. We had everyone at the wedding buzzing...literally. The stuff is legit.

Just picked up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold tonight (damn, this high end alcohol is addicting, lol) and it's a damn fine bottle of Scotch as well. I know, I know, it's a blend, how dare I. But I got it for 65 bucks, so it wasn't all that expensive. Definitely a great bottle to have in my collection next to my 90% gone, Martell XO Cognac. The Macallan 15 is next on the list...we're dying to try.

you know, early on in this thread I was going to say "pass the Couovesier" but I didn't think you would be interested. But seeing you went with the Martel, it would have probably been a good suggestion

Yeah, that's probably true...there is a guy I know that works with another dude at a huge liquor store that was actually schooled in Cognacs...so next time we're in the market for a bottle of cognac, we're gonna go get some advice from him.

Spooky,

A buddy of mine got a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 for his 30th birthday last month. I stole his bottle since he's not a Scotch drinker...HOLY CRAP. By far the best tasting single Malt I've had...and it's only 40 bucks! So smooth and tasty.

The bad news is that apparently they have discontinued the casks so I don't think it's gonna be very easy to find in the near future so we've been stocking up (I've got three bottles and the bro in law has two). I also ordered the 18 year for the fantasy football draft this weekend. They still make that and it's only 47 bucks, so we'll see how it compares. But man, that 15 is tasty. What years have you tried?

Oh...the 18 is phenomenal. Thankfully it's only 7 bucks more than the 15 (which they no longer make). So if anyone wants a great single malt...Glenfiddich 18. Runs 47 bucks at Bev-Mo if you got one near you. Just awesome.

Nice. Yeah, I think I may actually like Glenfiddich a bit better than McCallens.

I have had both the 15 and 18 and like them both equally for different reasons.

Laphroaig, f*ckers, Laphroaig.

But if you like Macallan or Glenfiddich, you probably won't dig Laphroaig. It's the peatiest, smokiest single malt I've ever tasted. The stuff is strong -- sort of the Guinness Stout of single malt, at least to me!

But hey, it's Scotch we're talking here. Even a bad Scotch -- and Macallan and Glenfiddich definitely are NOT bad Scotch! -- is better than just about any other liquor in the world. :)

Take care,
PK

at the risk of exposing my ghettoness, there's nothing like a shot of Hennessey with a water back, or some Crown Royal. I haven't drank it in a while but some folks enjoy E&J. To me, you need a rock gut for E&J, but it'll get drunk pretty quick.
