I have no problem doing this. If you guys wants to do a 3.5 star maximum then lets do it. I'll have to boot up the game and get back to you after I've checked out the lower ranked teams.

Leeeeeeeeet's get ready to ruuuuuuuuumble!!!!! Or at least frustrate the heck out of each other with the pinpoint, quick passing, and deadly accurate through balls only to be thwarted shamelessly by UEFA's incredibly talented super-goalies.

It looks like these are the league's competitors so far...

I haven't checked the league page on UEFA yet to see who has officially joined but if you haven't already done so then please do. If anybody has any special rules requests or the like then let us know. I still haven't picked up 3.5 star max team yet but I'll do that later on today.

I just hope it's not bloody raining in pretty much every single game - I don't know how the grounds crew is keeping the pitch intact in my CYC campaign!

Nicest thing about playing DSP'ers are no disconnects by the other side. I was ahead with Scotland 1-0 versus some chap playing England in the 84th minute when he disconnected. Highly annoying after some of the shellackings I've absorbed.

Best wishes,

Doug

I've forgotten to cut and paste some impressions from OS but I've been playing this game non stop for the last week.

I've gone from liking the game, to hating to really digging it. That's where I am now.

I tend to play FIFA like WE and that's what's screwing me up. I try to run-shoulder tackle every player. After the CPU would destroy me, I switched tactics and started to use X to mark the CPU dribbler, allowing me to stay with the CPU player making a run. That has shut down even the best teams.

I never really had to so that in WE because the AI teammates will do that for you.

Now that I've gotten a grasp on the shooting of the game, I've made a few bombs with the likes of Viera, Wright-Phillips, even Alan Hutton.

My complaint here is that the CPU offense is a lot like EA's NHL game. They shoot too often and take some really crappy shots when they should move it around a bit. I also haven't seen any long range shots made by the CPU.

There's a few quirks in the game that might lead to some problems. Because the CPU takes so many bad shots, this affects the player ratings at the end of the match.

EURO 08 wrinkle to FIFA, is that players can improve or worsen depending on how they play. Since the CPU shoots too much, a player like Ronbinsen can make a lot of saves, giving him a higher rating. After a few matches his stats increase and he gets bronze-silver-gold stars.

Stars are pretty well handled in the game. Not only that but in as I played with France, Viera went from Gold to Bronze. I could feel the difference in his speed and ability to get the ball away.

I think there's a very good game here even without all the frills that was in FIFA. I would say that it plays a much better game than FIFA 08.

There was some criticism with the wing play. Yes there is too much wing play. But you can also shut that down by closing down wingers and forcing them to go inside.

As for too much wing play for the human player, I think you have as much opportunity to go inside. If you are playing against a poor team that puts 10-men back, you really have to break apart the defense.

One final note, you also can change the mindset of the team from offensive to defensive with RB and the D-pad. This is extremely helpful if you are in the waning minutes of a match, need to put 10 men behind the ball, or throw everything you have at the goal.

Thanks for the impressions Jrod. Especially that last part on changing tactics:)

I'm going with Norway (3.5 stars) as my EURO league team.

I've come to love the game online when played with like minded people who play a slower pace with buildup and don't exploit the throughball on a regular basis. If desired the game can be turned into a track meet where every pass is a long through ball and suddenly the game you're playing looks nothing like soccer.

That being said, I'll take this game over Fifa 08 hands down.

As for the league - I'm going to pass at this time.

Question for everyone that has this: Have they improved through balls? My biggest peeve with FIFA 08 was that through ball logic was poor. Balls didn't end up being passed intelligently into space, but instead went in a straight line from the passer to where the attacker would be...even if a defender was directly in the way.

Also, are corner kicks (and headers in general) less static? Is there more running, or does it still have a lot of players standing in place, jumping straight up, and heading it in?

Good news and bad news.

Through balls are damn-near perfect, maybe too perfect. They make prying open the back four much easier.

I may just not have figured it out yet, but corners are still FUBAR as far as I'm concerned. They've made it harder to curl the delivery and the players still behave pretty timidly in the box. Very frustrating, because I have games where I dominate and create a ton of chances but all I get are essentially worthless corners. :(

I may be in the minority on this one but I wish EA would bring back the off the ball controls for free kicks and corners. It was introduced in FIFA 2004 and FIFA 2005.

EA's problem was they never explained throughly how to effectively use them. I got so good with free kicks I had 5 out of ten go in the net. Corners where not as frequent as the jostling for position took the correct timing but even though I could manage 2 out of ten corners for a goal.

Hmm...now I'm tempted. I absolutely hated through balls in FIFA 08...one of my major pet peeves. I may be tempted if they've improved it....

They've totally improved the through ball Jared. Problem is now we're coming across other minor annoyances like the annoying quickness in the passing, much more difficult tackles, and the impossibly excellent goal keepers. Also I'd argue that the through balls are now too accurate in many instances. I hate it when a player who isn't even facing the right direction quickly spins around and passes a bullseye rolling through ball right to the feet of a sprinting forward. It's just unrealistic!

The games also seems like it was made to be played in high resolutions. I played it over at my brothers place on a 60 inch 1080p screen and it looked incredible compared to my TV. The player names are much easier to read on the roster screens.

Ok. I dipped my toe in the water and will enjoy getting my back side handed to me with Ukraine - 3.5 stars.

I do have some availability during the day. otherwise I am available occasionally at night during the week after 10pm ET. Weekends are spotty at best. Best way to contact me is email or to catch me online.. or drop a note here.

Jack.. It's been a long time! The rivalry continues :)

Couple things...

1) I thought we were switching to 3 and 1/2 star teams max?
2) How in the H E double hockey sticks did Ireland beat England????? :D :D :D

I'll make sure to squeeze a league game or two in before the end of the week.

ManMan858 - Norway
FifaInspected - Ukraine
JackB1 - ???
Macca00 - Ireland
RobVarak - England (need to change to lower ranked team!)
Dougb1 - ???

Is that everyone?

I believe we're all playing each other twice and then the top four teams compete for the two final spots and then we'll have a third place game.

Sound good?

I've not seen any issues with online performance. But then again, i've not been playing randoms, only friends who have solid connections.

I just scored a crazy goal with Hargreaves from 30 yards out and the dumb EA servers won't let me upload it! That thing was a rocket. I wish we could save goals on the HD and then upload them later on. Lame!
