That's been a problem with the Fifa series for a while. Too many long range shots are on target, so the keepers are set up to be super human in order to keep the scores down. Closer in the tend to play like idiots.

Best wishes,

Doug
I found the balance in FIFA 08 to be spot-on in that respect. Better shooters could definitely score from 20-25 yards, but not so often as to be too easy. Totally different story in Euro...

I've been playing winger in CYC mode with crap shooting stats (and Scottish to boot) so I haven't tried many long shots in Euro. Hell, I can barely head the ball with a heading stat of 40 (kind of like in real life!)

Best wishes,

Doug

Yes! A bite!

I've created league called "DSP euro 2008". The pw is to join is "dsp". Anyone interested in joining just sign up as soon as possible and we'll get this show on the road. Any team is fair game. I've chosen Portugal but it doesn't have to be a team in the EURO 2008 tournament (i.e. England).

Rob - The very fact that you can get the ball in the box is encouraging to me :) I simply can't build an attack near their area. it's driving me mad.

I have the opposite problem. The passing is so accurate and the pace of the game so quick that it's almost too easy to get into good scoring position. Finishing is another story, as 99% of my goals are from crosses or first time shots off of short passes...with the other 1% coming off of rebounds. It's a bit too hockey-like at times, but it's still early days for the game. It takes me at least a week before I feel like I have a good handle on the intricacies of a soccer game.

I did finally score a 30-yarder with Fabregas, although it was against a Latvian keeper whom I believe was driving his cab for a living 45 minutes prior to kick off :)

I've seen a few goals AGAINST me from outside of the box from players like Henry, and Ballack but I've yet to hit from this range. Most of my goals are now coming from my new offensive strategy that I've come up with for XBL. Basically I'm running a full out attack, 4-4-2, and I constantly send the ball up field with the lobbed thru passes and try to jostle for position from about 30-40 yards out. If I can get free, or lucky, I usually can beat the goalie. The goalies are much tougher in EURO 2008 overall though. FIFA 08 seems to do a better job of simulating the physics on the shots that EURO 2008 as they just seem a bit unpowered overall.

I'm currently 4-7 online and I've had some really rough losses (5-0, 4-0) against some excellent opponents. How do people get that good???? Get a life damn it!

Have you guys noticed if the CPU AI uses mid-range passes? I know even last year they used only short passes until they got close to the box and then they would attempt a cross pass into the box.

The computer uses mid-range and long-range passes like crazy in the games that I've played. They are dastardly accurate and I wish they'd tone them down a bit.

They use them for sure. They're methodical, but they will open up your defense with a mid-long range pass...especially diagonal balls to switch up play and beat the FB on the side opposite the ball.

I'm still trying to figure out the defensive changes. They've nerfed the tackle buttons pretty thoroughly by allowing even weak ball handlers to jink and wiggle around challenges. I also find the LT jostle option to be less powerful than in FIFA. There are long stretches where I just can't dispossess the CPU.

I find it so interesting that some people are saying the game is too easy and attack is swift, while i'm about to throw the controller in frustration. For those of you who are finding it easy, is there any buildup or are you pushing the ball up the pitch with a vengeance?

I'm digging the game online ...losing most, but all but one of my matches have been very close, many going into ET. Offline I guess I need a little help. Well.. My attack online is very poor as well.

As for CPU possession. I too have simply sat back and watched them play keep away from my team despite my efforts to win the ball back. It's crazy..

I signed up for the DSP league as Spain (harking back to Blub's excellent Winning Eleven World Cup tourney....).

Haven't played too, too much but what Rob said earlier this week playing FIFA 08 OTP - some aspects of EURO are quite a change - the passing is much better with less lag between button presses and what you see on screen.

Looking forward to playing some matches online....it's a crime that there's no OTP....

Im dying to join you fellas online but i just know my tv wouldnt make it thru 1 session with my frustration with Fifa so if Euro gets it i will get it then, trying to rent it but noone has it yet.

Good to have yah Macca! I'm hoping this league should be nice and low maintenance with all the scores and stats etc... being kept on the EA servers for us. Hopefully we'll be able to get at least 5-6 people but that might be asking too much. Is anyone gamefly'ing this?

It does suck that they've left out OTP. Doesn't make any sense at all really considering how popular it has become.

Uh yeah, sure...and with Spain? We're just THRILLED to have you, Macca. :) Seriously, I'm going to have to find some way to move Brazil into UEFA just to stay within 5 goals. Now where did I put Platini's number?

I'm talking just against the CPU here.

I find it almost impossible to push the ball upfield except when the CPU is throwing everyone forward. The rest of the time it's all build up. Pinging the ball around the midfield is so fun and easy now that I can get the FB's on overlaps with no problem, or work short 1-2's in the middle with litttle difficulty. It's also incredibly easy to play diagonal balls to the wings from 25-35 yards out and put the wingers through that way.

The engine is not so forgiving when it comes to taking guys 1v1, which is not impossible but not easy either. And as I stated earlier I think the GK's are a little too good at keeping long shots out. I wonder if switching to manual shooting instead of semi may help?

I'm starting to feel like the physics of shooting were better in FIFA, as I'm seeing too many rocket shots and wicked rebounds. It's much harder to hit those nice curling 15 yarders, even with the finesse shot. Still too early for a full verdict IMO though.

I am sooo on the fence on this one still. I still play Fifa 08 and look really forward to the 09 version. Yet knowing me, I know I am getting all pumped up for the upcoming event and with that, also by playing the game, but something just tells me that I will be over it once the event is over, and with so much to do still with GTIV, I may just give it a rent in the end. Still following your guys' impressions with interest.

Sorry, I panicked when I saw Mac picking Port-uuu-gaaal with Ronaldo (who is again ridiculous in this game but at least now it's warranted.....I still don't understand why Henry is so insanely good, however).

I've had my a$$ handed to me so many times with Portugal I figured even with such a great team you guys are going to be whooping me anyway:) Glad to see we've had a few people signing up now, should be fun:)

Hey Fifa! Are you going to join? That definitely was a fun game last night. I still can't believe Lampard (or was it Gerrard?) hit a header from that far out:)

I am entertaining the idea of joining. I'd do it in a heart beat if it were kept to say 3 or 3.5 star teams. The top teams in this game are just too good..

I'll try to exit the league and then re-join as Ireland or something.
