Ya each site has it's own personality. Not much modding here and I think we have an older crowd as well at dsp.DChaps wrote:It works perfect Jared. I first discovered SR while just doing a search for a site that did sports game reviews and that ended up being my main site to visit for user opinions and gaming in the NCAA football leagues back on the PS2. Speaking of the old NCAA league anyone know whatever became of pacuca, he did a great job with being the commish of those leagues, that was a great setup back then with Blub's page setup for our league standing and stats and everyone played their games and seasons were finished out including playoffs.
A spot-on Sports Reviewers review stopped me from buying a very unrealistic EA NHL game for the PS1.... maybe NHL 2000 or 2001. That would have been a huge mistake.
Other than that, the main thing I remember is the Colin McRae 2.0 competitions that I couldn't take part in cause I already sold the game. But I still read the threads, hehe.

Ha...yeah. I think my playbook was a little more varied than you remember it to be, but yeah.Inuyasha wrote: Hey Jared, remember that SR NCAA 2004 Football League? Remember you were beating everyone in the league like 44-0 with the Florida Gators and would run the same passing plays like 10x. Then you came up against me and I was up big on you and you came back, and then I beat you in the final minute. I think I was the only person who beat you in that league for that whole year. Remember that?![]()
And you're welcome DChaps. Fortunately since it's an older crowd here, the site doesn't need much moderation (thanks to everyone for that).
YA that as one of the best online match's I ever played in anygame, that's why I still remember it today. That NCAA2004 league was awesome. The hype leading up to our game was like real life. I had just beaten the undefeated Iowa hup team on a last second interception in the endzone as time expired preserving a 3 point win (Iowa didnt want to go for the tie). We both were undefeated (me Oregon State and you Florida) and I even remember we had like 10 people come to SR chat just to follow the game. It was an epic battle where I luckily came out on top. I even remember I had to punt the ball to you with a second left on the clock and you almost broke it for the win. Like you said, you really wanted to win that game, just like a real life player would with his undefeated team vs the other undefeated team. The other poster was right that that paccua guy and BluBlub really did a awesome job organizing it.Jared wrote:Ha...yeah. I really wanted to win that one too...

I have fond memories of SR as it was the first forum I ever frequented and I remember that feeling of finding a group of guys who felt the same way I did about games and humor. That Siam baseball post is still probably the hardest I've ever laughed at a post in my life. I remember the feeling of community when I got Xbox Live and we all joined up to play MotoGP. Whenever I think of SR, I think of when my wife and I took our son to California for a surgery and we had lots of time to kill because we had to wait a week until the followup appointment. I couldn't wait to get on SR via dialup just to catch up on what was being talked about. One very late night I felt compelled to help on a thread that was trying to get some high post count by just posting one word or number at a time. It went on forever. It was stupid, but I loved it.
Ya, those motogp games were fun. I kept crashing into the wall and i sucked, but it was fun and that was the point of it all.fatheadX wrote:I have fond memories of SR as it was the first forum I ever frequented and I remember that feeling of finding a group of guys who felt the same way I did about games and humor. At the time of SR's heyday, I was just out of college with plenty of free time to game and talk about gaming. Now I'm married with a child, and rarely gaming at all with pretty much no desire to talk about gaming. Although I do still like to read about it just about as much as I did before, which makes visiting the DSP forums a part of my daily routine.
I do miss seeing Cincy Kid and Vinny-B posting here, it isn't the same without them around. I'd like to just know that they are doing well if nothing else. Just to bring up some more old chat memories that haven't been mentioned, nothing beats Florida Gators and Droog going to you for advice on how to get girls Fletch, the pms they would send you that you would post for me were awesome. I loved the beginning of XBL also, gaming will never be as fun as it was when the MotoGP demo was out. And my favorite online gaming moment still has to be the first time I played SOCOM online with Neckthai and BBReBozo and hearing Neck talk for the first time. There was a moment of stunned silence, followed by Bozo saying "I can't decide who you sound more like Neck, Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen". Actually, almost all of my favorite online gaming moments involved Neckthai somehow. Plus he shared the first pic of PK over chat, gaming in nothing but his underwear in a room full of guys in Indy I assume. I think I might have actually been sworn to secrecy about seeing that though, oops.
I will claim responsibility for the fall of SR. I think the fake feud between Bozo and I was the beginning of the end. To keep it going and believable, we had to enlist the help of Matt to verify some of the stuff we were saying, and I think he got the shenanigans bug after that. We knew while we were planning each post over chat that things would never be the same in the forum, especially after everyone bought everything we were saying as truth, no matter how outlandish the posts got. We didn't set out to hurt any feelings (although from the PMs I got for a long time afterwards I know we did), but damn that was fun while it was happening.
I did make some good friends from the site though that I have kept in regular contact with since then. In fact, both Bozo and Siam actually sent flowers to the hospital when my son was born, complete with a card written in chatspeak. I am pissed though that I didn't get the chance to out Inuyasha as Siam tonight. It could have been my last Skull and Games reveal, and payback for him emailing me a Wire spoiler a couple of months ago.
And where the f*** is SFZ?
Miss you too My Friend Hope your doing well Brother

I owe him some coin!dbdynsty25 wrote:He's still trying to take his beloved Falcons to the promise land with his family cheering him on.
I also wish Vinny would make his way over here...definitely a cool guy that is missed on here. Another dude that made his way over here, but ended up disappearing is Cincy Kid...he was one of my favorite dudes to game with back on the original Xbox w/ Xbox Live. I think he had some kids and maybe that's the reason he doesn't have time for us anymore.

Jared's right. Some of the forum posts are at archive.org. It's a horrifying trip down memory lane, though![]()
