MLB 08 Season

I think I jinxed the Jays by talking about their mini-winning streak. Not only they lost another tight one to the division leaders Rays (losing the name Devil is giving them a boost for some reason) but they end up losing not one but two shortstops in the same game. WTF? D. Eckstein will be missed dearly if he's gone for long. Baserunning was a joke again, this team just needs a cleanup hitter badly!

Mulder's rehab is going so poorly, he's probably middle-relief at best(currently)...sportdan30 wrote:Heck, there's controversey now that if Mulder comes back from his rehab stint, who do you kick out of the rotation? I don't think it's going to be answered for a while as Mulder has struggled big time in his last two AAA starts.greggsand wrote:I know but you gotta enjoy the cards in 1st while it lasts....TheGamer wrote:Its May 5th.

While no one expected Mulder to fall off a cliff, Johan Santana would like to remind you that Mulder was nowhere close to the best left-handed pitcher in the game when traded to the Cards.
And while Haren was mediocre with the Cards, he did so as a 22/23 year old in with improving K and groundball rates.
But that trade isn't close to being as bad as Texas trading Chris Young and Adrian Gonzalez for Adam Eaton. Yikes.

It was pretty cool (I'm sure you've seen the highlights). But what was even cooler were the two defensive gems the Tribe pulled off in the 9th when the Jays were threatening to score.lexbur wrote:Friggin' CAVS!!!! Flipping back and forth between the Tribe game and the Cavs game caused me to miss only the fourteenth unassisted triple play in history!
It was good enough to get the win in the 2nd game, against the punchless Tribe.10spro wrote:And threatening is the only thing Jays are good at lately. V. Wells is gone for six weeks now, but where's the rest of the gang? I hope those rumors about B. Bonds returning to the league and maybe ending up in TOR are false.

That said, I do think they will win the division.
That joke is so old, the last time I heard it I almost fell off my dinosaur I was laughing so hard.....

Oh yeah, look who's back in first.

A lot of people thought last year could be the beginning of the end for Hafner's super-productive days. There are a lot of players with similar skill sets/physical attributes that have completely fallen off a cliff once they get near 30.snaz16 wrote:Just what in the he!! is wrong with Travis Hafner? This slump is going on a year now.
For similar reasons, the Phillies are going to have to make a tough call on Ryan Howard...give him a long-term deal or just take him during his arbitration years?
What, David Dellucci and his .250 average batting third in the lineup doesn't strike fear into anyone?snaz16 wrote:It was good enough to get the win in the 2nd game, against the punchless Tribe.Just what in the he!! is wrong with Travis Hafner? This slump is going on a year now. Outside of Victor Martinez and Hafner, there is no one in this lineup that strikes fear in any pitcher.

How about the A's last night intentionally walking Martinez to pitch to Hafner? Hafner used to lead the league in walks, everyone was afraid to pitch to him. Oh well, at least we have a weekend series at the Reds coming up. Our pitchers will probably hit as well as our DH.

Lester is a terrific story. He was also nearly traded, twice. Once for Rodriguez in the failed deal with Texas, and again for Santana.10spro wrote:Jon Lester was battling cancer two years ago. Playing for BOS he throws a no hitter in blanking the Royals, great comeback.
Personally, I'm glad they kept him. You don't trade away 24 year old lefties who can throw in the mid to low 90's.
