I'm pretty sure it was Matt. I remember Superior Man tried to start a feud with DSP near the end...it was funny at first, but then got tiresome quick.

I think someone found the archived SR forums on web.archive.org (can't find them right now)...a lot of those old posts are somewhere. It was a great place when it was at its peak.

Oh, and I completely forgot, who was CommonSense? Was that Parker, or another Matt personality? (Memory of those old days are fading fast...)

CincyKid was a good guy...I think he just got old/busy. Over the years there are regular regulars on these forums, and irregular regulars, that will post regularly for a while and then just disappear for a year or two, and then at times come back. I figure life gets busy, people get bored with gaming, and then people just fade away...

You're right, it all got too weird.

With regard to Jared's points, speaking personally I don't do nearly as much actual sports gaming as I used to - really down to just FM 2008 at this point. I only here otherwise to correct all of you on the soccer thread, bemoan my misfortunes on the Fantasy Football thread or post odd things to random OT stuff.

Still an essential part of my working day, of course.

Totally agree. Both Cincy and Vinny were excellent guys. Friendly and fun to game with.

Cincy is the man! I remember getting a care package from him and PK for my family when I got back from Iraq. I was very touched. We also had a yearly bet on the Michigan/Ohio St footballl game. I owe him some coin!

I'm slowly starting to lose my enthusiasm for the hobby. The lure of new releases of top games just isn't there for me anymore. It's sad in a way. However, I'm finding that I'm having the most fun in short gaming sessions, most notably on the Wii playing with my son.

I don't think I'll completely give up posting on DSP, as I still enjoy reading the best unbiased impressions of any gaming site I've experienced.

While my enthusiasm for the gaming hobby is still high, my free time is not. A bummer and one that I am slowly coming to grips with. I am getting to the point where I might go a week or two without adequate gaming sessions (so maybe just a few minutes here or there) and in turn lose my drive/involvment/passion for the 'big' game that I was so excited about two weeks prior. The concept of gaming is still very fun for me, but the reality is not and I have to start being more disciplined around my purchases now. I still have MLB '08 for PS3 and have maybe played only 3 or 4 full games total. I keep thinking I'll play it more when I have a chance and then I just don't ever get too it, even when I have the time to.

Anyway, SR was a great place and had some really fun drama at times, but I certainly don't miss it and am glad we have ultimately turned into the community we have here now!!!! I DO miss the freshness of online console gaming that was around during the SR days and what excitement and fun that brought! But that is really just a timing thing and not an SR community one.

I think you perhaps clarified my lack of gaming enthusiasm better than I did. Yes, of course I don't have that excitement that I once did, but now it's really finding the time to game when I do. I have roughly two hours after we put the kids to bed before I hit the sack. What's been happening is that over the last couple months (since MLB 08 has been out), I have found myself heading to the basement to get my gaming time in. The wife will then watch one of her shows, and go to bed. I'll follow behind a half hour later or so.

I often wonder if this is really that healthy for our marriage. Sure, we're both enjoying and relaxing with one of our hobbies, but we're not together. Also, I don't necessarily want to look back in a few years and feel as though I wasted time gaming when I could be either spending time with her, or at least be doing something more constructive (reading, helping with some chores, going to the gym, etc.). I'll always game, but I know hard core gaming is behind me and I'm starting to come to grips with this. And actually, it might be the best thing for me.

Ha. I think CommonSense is a banned name, actually, from way back when.

And as for gaming enthusiasm...it's still there for me, but I just don't have as much time for gaming as I used to. I'd love to have a two-hour block to play a console title, but lately that time is just gone. (It's even worse for reviewing a game...it takes a lot of time to write a GOOD review of a game. Before, it was easy to do that...now, it's tough. Fortunately, with no PS3 I haven't been tempted to write any reviews this spring. But once NCAA comes out, I'm sure I'll be tempted to write again.)

One thing I've had more time to play, however, are text-based sports games. Primarily because I can multitask (surf the read, write e-mails, catch up on work from home) while playing. Been playing tons of Football Manager while rocking my baby to sleep, for example.

I don't post like I did over there since most of the stuff was an act, just like others here that are more refined in their posting

I do know that at the end Matt got sick and tired of gaming and basically wanted to kill SR. I think he did the first time but he got so many email messages to bring it back, he didnt know how to kill it softly. Then I think he came up with the Superiorman stuff just to piss everyone off. I didnt even figure out the Superiorman stuff was him until like the very end where he sort of admitted it in some of the forum posts. (But I think that commonsense guy was actually someone else but just screw with everyone else). But what really killed it was that he was being harassed by some outside people about the site and I think he just said the hell with it and decided to kill it once and for all.

After SR was over, I didnt' hear from Matt for like 3-4 years until recently where I did some digging in old emails and sent him a letter with my email address on it. He did email me back saying he was doing fine and that he is no longer associated with the videogame business. I don't converse with him much, maybe an email every 4 months or so, but he's pretty much detached from gaming. But he's doing good in his life so pretty much that's all that counts.

That is why in-game saves are so important. I can't tell you how many times Ive played 3 or 4 innings of MLB2K8, saved and finished up later when I have more free time. I would never be able to get through a season otherwise.

My issue with time is actually more of a choice than I like to think. I do technically have the time, but I just find myself getting more and more exhausted in the later evenings and that is when I tend to do most of my gaming. I'll leave work and think, 'tonight I am going to do some serious gaming once the family hits the sack' and then I end up falling asleep at 9:30pm.

I never laughed at any post more than that one. "Charlie Hustle" still makes me laugh. I am glad Inuyasha's roose has been revealed.

The thing that was fun about SR was the same thing that could make it infuriating -- its complete unpredictability. Like the fake feud between Hip and Bozo.

DSP is definitely the better place to be, but the chaos of SR was not without its charms.
