Now that the Pens are in the final dance, I hope DET will do what they have to do, and have a great Lord Stanley final.

Got smoked!

Must be some bad karma hanging around from those thuggish 70's teams. Love to see a Pittsburgh Detroit series as it'll be the first time in awhile that there have been 2 really skillful fast skating teams in the final.

Best wishes,

Doug

Sorry,

those mid 70's Flyers teams have always bothered me the way they won those cups.

Actually, I'm a Habs fan and thought Philly deserved the victory in that series. The Flyers team now is light years from that dark era. You've got a lot to look forward to in Philadelphia with the team that's been assembled.

Again, I like a series between Detroit and Pittsburgh as it gets the two most talented and fasted skating lineups on the ice.

Best wishes,

Doug

No problem...I wasn't really mad about the comment...just disappointed in the Flyers performance. Those 70's squads were a bit arrogant...just a bit ::)

They are attacking the neutral zone with their patent speed, Lidstrom and Rafalski have all the space they crave for and their puck possession offense is based on, and Turco just looks shaky again. You're not going to come back agaisnt a very good team like DET being down 0-3, although DAL seems to pick it up a bit with their late PP.

No shots on goal in that last Dallas PP. Not a good sign for Stars fans.

I know the score was 4-1 ...but....The stars did not just go away.

They threw everything they had at the Wings in the 3rd...Osgood was a monster.

Looking forward to the final.

Go game 7!

All Hockey puck-heads will be happy to watch this final. A dream final that has the potential to go the distance. It's been more than a decade that I crave to watch wonderful final game seven. The last gem was the one between the Rangers and Canucks in 94. This one has 'that' potential and I am really looking forward to it. Bad thing: Game one doesn't start until Saturday.

James:

Not following you, mate. The final went seven exciting games in 2006, with the outcome as my only disappointment, as the Oil lost to Carolina.

There have been four Game 7's in the finals since the Rangers-Canucks' classic:

2006: Edmonton-Carolina (my heart still bleeds)
2004: Tampa-Calgary (that was a very good series)
2003: New Jersey-Anaheim (Jiggy was unconscious the whole series)
2001: Colorado-New Jersey (How is Ray Bourque finally winning the Cup not a classic?)

But I agree that this series has the potential to be dynamite. I think the teams are very evenly matched. Goaltending will be pivotal, as always.

Take care,
PK

Maybe I wasn't more specific PK. All those SC games went to seven games as you mentioned, but in terms of melodrama, ups and downs, a few players in their primetime, Messier, Richter, Bure, Linden, 'Nucks being down 1-3 in the series at one point and stretching it to game seven,(when everyone started to parade in Broadway) all that unpredictability in the series has potential to be repeated again with DET-PIT. Two dynamic duos for each team in Datsyuk-Zetterberg and Malkin-Crosby, two equally well balanced goalkeepers, Ozzie gets an edge for his experience and a couple of very good puck movers from the blue line like Lidstrom and Gonchar.

That Rangers-'Nuck series was dynamite to watch and with all the ingredients available for this series I am hoping that this clash will provide us all the excitement and unpredictablility that the finals in 94 brought to me. Not a slap to the other game sevens since then at all. All those games had their own drama but I can't remember looking forward with such anxiety for a SC final like this one in a long while.

Agreed, James. I was just talking with the motorsports writer of the Detroit Free Press -- also a huge hockey fan -- here in the media center, and we both agreed that this final could be epic.

Can't wait!

Take care,

So game one is almost upon us. Good grief! I just hope that the final everyone wished for won't disappoint any of us Hockey fans, look forward to a hard, close contest between these two teams, I think they are so evenly matched that in the end it will come to youth vs experience. I also look it as a Canadian (PIT) content vs the Swedes (DET) for fun, so I am going to pick the Pens in six games. Regardless of who wins in the end, I hope it's a thriller one.

Quickie prediction from Indy:

Detroit in 7. Rafalski and Lidstrom on the blue line are the difference, and Fleury is much more susceptible to meltdown than Osgood.

Drop the damn puck!

My brain says that the Red Wings win in 5, teaching the Pens another lesson on the road to becoming a dynasty (as much as yuo can these days), a la the first time the Oil faced the Isles for the Cup.

Butttttttt...... my gut is telling me the Pens in 7, in one of the most exciting finals in years.......

Wings put the clamps on the Pens...Shut em down completely after giving up 4 power plays in the first..

Would have rather had seen a Penguins win but it was nice to see playoff hockey again.
