Minimum of 80 sounds about right from my trips to Atlanta.

A good tip for the future: make a donation to your state police's fraternal order or similar group. They send you a sticker that you can stick on the back of your window. May not cure you of a ticket at 30 over but could be the difference between a ticket and a warning. Plus the donation goes to a good cause (often for funds for widows of fallen officers).

While it is true you can't really crank it on 94 through Chicago, the tollway easily hits 75-80 if traffic will allow it. They should call the iPass the iSpeed.

Given all this illegal speeding it's not surprising that more than 40,000 Americans die in car accidents every year. Here's the state by state breakdown:

Plus the fact I'll bet 90 % are talking on cell phones as well.

Against the law to drive and use mobile devices in New York, not that it makes a damn bit of difference. New York state could balance its budget in three months if police actually enforced that law and issued tickets ...

Take care,

As a pedestrian in Philly, I've been nearly hit about three times legally crossing the street...every single time, it was an idiot on a cell phone.

This table alone doesn't really tell you much, though, as they need to take into acount population, cars and people on the road, etc.

I called a few "traffic lawyers" and the cheapest I found was $200. He said he thinks he can get my ticket reduced to 14mph over the limit, which means it wouldn't go on my record, but of course he can't guarantee anything and I have to play up front. Do you guys think that is worth it?

A friend who works in insurance says that Insurance co's only pull DMV records on maybe 10% of their existing customers, so he thinks there is a good chance my rates wouldn't increase if I just pleaded guilty and paid the fine. The problem though is once you have something on your record, you never get the benefit of a "clean record" anymore.

Just go to traffic school and it'll be off your record.

they don't offer that in every state and I dont think it's an option in Georgia.

Find a new one. Most of the one's around here will get it reduced to a non-moving violation for that price.

Heck, my last few, I went to a family friend (a tax attorney) and he gave my tickets to some underling in the office and got them changed to parking tickets... and they didn't even charge me. 8)

The law enforcement people must crack down on drunk driving which is the real danger. Way too many people drinking and driving and when someone dies in a catastrophic crash due to drunk driving, it is so painful for the family members who lose someone they really know and love. Please promise to never drink and drive.

Someone is killed by a drunk driver every 32 minutes. Much fewer are killed by speeding.

just wanted to give everyone an update to wrap up this thread....

I hired a traffic lawyer for $200 and had my court appearance today.
He was able to get my over 30 mph over the limit reduced to 14 over, (which means no points and no record!) and got my fine reduced to $230. So am very happy I went this route and thanks to everyone for their input.
Needless to say, I won't be speeding anymore!!! :)

you should have just hung out at the courthouse and paid some lawyer that needed work 20 bucks. Worked out for you either way.
