OT: Anyone ever see this before?

Look at the photos of some high school games at our minor league park. They put in new field turf. They have no dirt anywhere. Mound, infield, home plate. I have never see anything so stupid done to a baseball field. Anyone ever see this before? Home plate is damn near covered. Unreal.

They did it at Tulane after Katrina. The only dirt is the pitchers mound. Drains really quick

Jackdiggity:

At first, I looked at the pics and thought, "Man, you need to send me some of that sh*t you're smoking!" Then I realized the "dirt areas" were field turf painted brown!

That is beyond lame. Nice-looking park, otherwise!

Take care,
PK

   I wish!!! I have never seen a home plate and mound area cover in astro turf. Lame is a very good word to decribe it. Baseball isn't baseball without dirt! Your right though, it is a very nice park.

Wow. That has got to be really weird to play on. It looks like carpet. I can't imagine trying to slide into second on that stuff.

I don't imagine you'd slide very far...kinda like Wesley Snipes character in Minor League..come to a stop a few feet from the bag... 8O

That's just...weird...

Ha, those kids should try playing softball games in the outfields of Central Park. :D

I agree it looks like ass, but it's probably much cheaper and easier to maintain. I'll bet the kids don't notice it once the game starts.

would it kill them to just dig that up and have real dirt? Imagine they have to repaint often.
