OT: Watching DVD's on a PC

Post by brendanrfoley »

My new computer (well, it's a few months old at this point), came with a beautiful 22" widescreen monitor. So I now find myself watching DVDs more often on my computer.

Problem is, the software that came with my PC (PowerDVD DX) is not good. It's actually awful!

Can anyone reccommend good software (pay or freeware)?

VLC Player
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

GOM Player
http://www.gomlab.com/eng/

Both players also will handle just about every streaming video format under the sun without endless codec downloads. Both are free -- shocker, considering it's my recommendation. :)

Take care,

When PK recommends something free that's equivalent to it getting the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

Get a big-screen HDTV.

And an upscaling DVD player.

PK, I'm thrilled with the VLC. Thanks!

Oh, and WCO... if I could afford the big screen, I'd be there ;)

If you could afford a new computer with a 22-inch display ...

I was surprised to find 50 or 60 inch plasmas at Costco for $2000 or less. These were Panasonics I think.

I paid $2000 back about 3 or 4 years ago for a 34-inch CRT.

Should be able to get 32-inch LCDs, even from known brands, for around $1000.
