My point is that if the correct call had been made on the ice then we would have the correct result now...Goal.Naples39 wrote:There is just no way the Crosby goal could've been overturned. Seeing the replays I think the puck was probably in, but 'thinking' and 'probably' are irrelevant.

I know what you are saying, but the ref made the correct call on the ice (IMO). He couldn't see the puck over the line. Hell, we could barely tell with 3-4 different goal cam angles.XXXIV wrote:My point is that if the correct call had been made on the ice then we would have the correct result now...Goal.Naples39 wrote:There is just no way the Crosby goal could've been overturned. Now if you wanna complain about a call...that interference call on Briere was total bs...He got shoved into him. I didnt get that call at all.
Yeah, that was another tough call. It is becoming obvious that the Flyers are just out manned. No Timonen and now no Coburn. The defense is just decimated.XXXIV wrote:Fair enough...We will just disagree.Diablo25 wrote:I know what you are saying, but the ref made the correct call on the ice (IMO). They hung pretty tough considering...This has been an entertaining game.Diablo25 wrote: It is becoming obvious that the Flyers are just out manned. No Timonen and now no Coburn. The defense is just decimated.
I dont think the series is over yet...but this is going to be tough.
EDIT: they were right there. Just one bad failure to clear.

Didnt help that Downie still had a chance to stop the play after his turnover but went for a hit instead, the pass goes right by him to Talbot in the slot.XXXIV wrote:They hung pretty tough considering...This has been an entertaining game.Diablo25 wrote: It is becoming obvious that the Flyers are just out manned. Funny that the injury that really cost the Flyers last night was Gagne's concussion. If he was fit, then limp wristed Downie would be a healthy scratch.
The Hatcher "hooking" penalty was weird, but the way the refs missed the dirty hit on Danny Briere by Sean Ave... I mean Evgeni Malkin bothers me a lot more.

Bingo.Diablo25 wrote:Nope...they got that one right. You can't call that a goal. No evidence for it. The Hatcher call is a bit more reasonable after seeing the stick between the legs.
I think the puck crossed the line. But there was no conclusive proof that it crossed the line since Biron's glove was hovering over the puck and then covered it.
The call on the ice was no goal, and there wasn't enough evidence from any video angle to overturn it.
Was it a goal? Probably. But thankfully the NHL doesn't use the O.J. jury to adjudicate its rules.
Take care,

Spot on, mate. Downie was completely undressed three times on the Talbot goal.Jimmydeicide wrote:Didnt help that Downie still had a chance to stop the play after his turnover but went for a hit instead, the pass goes right by him to Talbot in the slot.
First, he turned over the puck. Then he didn't stay with Roberts when Roberts skated through the slot to the end boards to get Laraque's dump-in. Then Downie didn't put his stick in the passing lane to stop the pass to Talbot, instead going for a hit even though he was two or three strides behind the play.
But, hey, it's Steve Downie. That's what you get. It's not like the guy is the reincarnation of Doug Jarvis.
Take care,

Ah, Steve Downie. When I saw him with a sweater last night I cringed. Then I cringed again, again and again.pk500 wrote:Spot on, mate. Eh, I thought Steve Downie played a pretty strong game up until that point. He was very effective along the boards, and threw a number of strong checks. For a 4th liner it was not a bad performance at all and better than Thoresen's recent games, excepting the gaffe for the goal of course. Actually a Thoresen turnover led to a Pens goal during game 1 as well.
It's not like he was the only guy that made a turnover all night for the Flyers. It just so happened that his teammates didn't bail him out for that particular mistake last night as with the Flyers' other turnovers.

Dallas is done. They look too tired after beating two good teams in ANA and SJ and even though they came back twice to tie the game, they just can't keep up with DET's hot guns, minus J. Franzen. The rookies are starting to show their inexperience in the blue line and M. Turco is a mere shadow of his earlier performances in the first two rounds. M. Modano had his best game yet but the whole team looks disoriented.
Oh, they are living up to expectations alright and far beyond. It's been a walk in the park for this team so far in the playoffs. In terms of credit, I think most people would agree that this is a very talented team, but they have great depth as well. How about having a guy in J. Hudler. Basically a fourth liner who scored a beauty and has double digit points in these playoffs. Not bad for a so called fourth liner. This team is deep and I think they'll win it all this year...wco81 wrote:Maybe Detroit is just living up to expectations for a chance and people aren't giving them enough credit.

No question. And James is right about the team's depth. There aren't many teams that could lose their leading scorer in the playoffs, a guy who also is a big physical presence, and not skip a beat.wco81 wrote:Maybe Detroit is just living up to expectations for a chance and people aren't giving them enough credit.
I think a Detroit-Pittsburgh final will be dynamite.
But today, fellas, I'm in hockey mourning. My Syracuse Crunch blew a 3-1 series lead against Toronto in the AHL quarterfinals and lost Game 7 last night in Toronto. The long wait for a second Calder Cup continues in the 'Cuse, as the team's only other Cup came in 1937, the first year the Cup was awarded.

I see that too....I think they are looking for the perfect play.10spro wrote:This game is putting me to sleep. Like My H.S. soccer coach used to say.....shoooooot!!!!!!!!!!
That's just the way the Pens like to play. Their style of play is like an italian soccer team--pack it in defensively and count on your world class talent up front to find a goal or two out of nothing.10spro wrote:This game is putting me to sleep. The frustrating part as a Flyers fan is that the Flyers controlled play in the first period of every single game this series, yet thanks to a series of unlucky bounces, bad calls, a bad turnover here or there, or a good finish from the Pens, the Pens have come out of the first with the lead every game.
Once the Penguins have an early lead, they're perfectly happy to sit on it, and with their two best puck moving d-men out, the Flyers are ill-equipped to counter that strategy.
Been a fun run that exceeded expectations, but it's hard to feel warm and fuzzy after a loss like tonight.
