NHL 08 Playoffs

Yeah, he will probably be a healthy scratch. I know he fought Laroque once and hung in with him pretty good. Laroque is a big dude thoughNaples39 wrote:I'm not sure why PIT is all riled up about Cote. Did he do something this regular season to PIT I'm forgetting? I doubt Cote will even play games 1 and 2, if at all in the series.

I dont doubt he will be there... but...I dont think the series will get very dirty...10spro wrote:Oh he'll be there. Seems to me the further teams get into the playoffs the less Hatcher type trash you see. Its not always the case but its the trend.
Once you get this far you are more interested in winning the Cup than your own b.s.
A fan from Philly called in and said Riley Cote would whip the Penguins' asses, so the ESPN Pittsburgh guy made the logical next step of murder by sniper rifle.

I believe you're thinking of the game against Tampa Bay where Cote fought Andre Roy twice, and knocked him down the second time:Diablo25 wrote:[Wasn't there a situation with one of the Pens (name escapes me) where Cote fought the guy twice in the same game and whooped his ass good both times...especially the second time? Maybe I am mistaken.

Just heard here in Philly (on CSN) that Kimmo Timonen is out INDEFINITELY with a blood clot. They just said its probably for the remainder of the playoffs. Holy s*** this is huge.
Update...Timonen says he was hit by a shot in game 5 in Montreal. It has continually hurt since the game it happened. After getting it checked it was revealed to be a blood clot in his ankle. s***.

....... and then the wings took their foot off the gas10spro wrote:DAL is finally playing the type of Hockey that got them this far in the third period. With the score 4-1, this game is over especially when it's DET, but at least they have to get to basics and get some kind of momentum for game two. The home team just dominated the 1st 40 minutes.

Wow, I didn't expect Detroit's speed advantage would be that pronounced. Was Dallas tired from the four-OT game, or are the Stars that much slower than the Wings at this time of the year?
If the speed differential continues, the only chance Dallas has against Detroit is to play a soft trap. The Oilers used a soft trap to upset Detroit in the first round in 2006, as it was the only way Edmonton could control Detroit's superior speed.
Dallas also needs to find a way to keep traffic away from Turco near the crease without taking penalties. Holmstrom and Frantzen set up campgrounds in the crease for nearly the entire game, and those screens accounted for two or three of the Wings' goals.
Take care,
PK

I think DAL was tired after all those OT's, they did find their legs in the third period, but they better play smarter and more physical in game two. Like you were saying PK, you just can't allow 'Homer' (I thought there was interference in his goal) and 'mule' to do their thing at will in the crease. These guys are expert at tipping in pucks.

The first 15 minutes of tonight's Pens-Flyers' game already is more entertaining than the entire 60 minutes of Wings-Stars last night.

I know your 80's Oilers arent playing but thats what some of those games looked like...back and forth wide open caution to the wind hockey...
Difference is the stupid turnovers...sloppy sloppy sloppy...
You mean the second goal where he wandered out of the net and then chipped the puck around the boards to a Pittsburgh player? That was a killer goal. Stay in your net, Marty.XXXIV wrote:Biron gives one back...Cant do that if you wanna win this series.
Must have the Biron from Hab series or at least a reasonable likeness.

Public address announcement heard after the game last night in the Flyers' dressing room:
"Paging Mr. Briere ... paging Mr. Daniel Briere. The Eastern Conference Finals have begun. Please show up for Game 2. Paging Mr. Daniel Briere ..."
Man, the Flyers are missing Timonen. Malkin chewed up Philly last night, and Timonen's job would have been to stop Geno. As George H.W. Bush said, "Not gonna happen."

I hear you PK. Sloppy game for the Flyers. At times it looked like the Pens were on a 5 on 5 powerplay. Its going to be a VERY tough task without Timonen. I knew that before the game but after watching last night's game it was glaring. He is arguably the Flyers best player and the night before the series he's gone...unexpectedly. If the Flyers can overcome this they will become one of the greatest Philadelphia teams EVER. You are talking about a team that finished dead LAST last season, lost their #1 scorer for most of the year, now lost their #1 defenseman and are still on the brink of the Stanley Cup Finals. Trust me, I am keeping things in perspective. Even if the Flyers get swept in this series I will still be unbelievably impressed with their accomplishments this season. All that being said, F the PENS and bring it on Sunday Night!
