Quick Final Poll - GTA4 for which system?

Post by Sport73 »

As an owner of both a 360 Elite and a PS3, I'm still up in the air on which version to pick up (tonight at midnight if I happen to be up). I have the 360 version reserved and fully paid for, and chose to do so because of the promised DLC and the online gaming of XBox Live. Still, I have read that the PS3 is universally accepted as superior looking, with faster load times, less pop in, and an overall more 'vibrant' appearance.

What's the consensus? I know we have more 360 owners, which is another thing that pushed me in that direction (with the presumption that there'd be more DSP members to play against).

Vote now.

Live. DLC. Achievements. Virtually identical. 360.

360 all the way. The MP possibilities are just too great on the 360.

I own both the 360 and PS3 and the choice is easy, 360 all the way. I don't want to miss out on the DLC for GTAIV and I don't want to sacrifice 5GB on my PS3 hard drive.

PS3, but I have no choice. With GTA IV and The Show, I don't have time to play online with you guys anyways.

PS3...I like to play games on a system that works more than 75% of the time I've owned it.

That seems mostly from the "exclusive" ign review. Most other reviews have barely even mentioned any difference between the two systems graphically (load times are only upon re-loading a mission). whatever floats your boat.

Ditto. I'm gradually migrating my purchases to the PS3. Plus, I'm not really interested in DLC because I doubt I'll even finish the main part of the game anyway.

Agreed !

Here's a quote from the Gamespot Review:

"If you're wondering about differences between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Grand Theft Auto IV, the truth is that there aren't many. The PS3 version can only be played after a mandatory install that takes around 10 minutes, and its load times are a little shorter and less frequent as a result. The visuals, which don't always hold up to close scrutiny but are impressive during typical gameplay, are comparable and feature the same quirks (shadows that flicker, for example) on both consoles."

I am really looking forward to online impressions from both systems... are the Gamespy servers stable for PS3? Are people using voice? My 360 just got back from repairs yesterday, and I'm still leaning towards it, but something's changed between us since it went away... the trust just isn't there, I fear.

Luckily I couldn't find the game early, so I didn't have to make any rash decisions. Once I weather the "find it early" storm, I don't mind waiting a couple days to make a more informed decision.

I am really digging my PS3 of late but XBLive is the deciding factor here.

If it helps tip anyone in either direction, that Beyond3D dude who figured out that Halo 3 was really running in 620p, then upscaled (later confirmed testily by Bungie) claims that the PS3 version of GTA does the same thing, while the 360 version is actually 720p.

Eurogamer has posted this information on their website. They also say the game runs in 630p then upscaled.

i initially preordered the 360 version. I switched over the weekend to PS3. I don't play online that much anymore. If i'm interested in the DLC when it comes out, i'll pick up a used copy of the 360 version. Reports are that the PS3 version uses a XBL style friends list where you can receive invites from your friends in the game. Like someone mentioned earlier, since getting my 360 back from repairs, I don't think of it the same...lol.

Easy choice, 360. Here is why:

1) All my on/offline friends are getting the 360
2) No mandatory hdd install (my 60 gig PS3 is getting full)
3) Achievements
4) Prefer 360 pad

Actually he said initially 630p and then finally 640p.

But he said the PS3 has a warmer look while the X360 has some dithering issues.

I read impressions on another forum where members have both games. The news is they both look really good and the pop up and load times on the 360 is a litle exaggerated.

Some forums reported occasional freeze ups on the 60GB PS3, but by erasing the game data and re-installing the game, the problem was gone.

I don't have a choice about which version to get in, but it sounds to me like the versions are the same graphically for all intensive purposes. Sure, if you're really trying to find a difference between the games the PS3 may get a small edge, but for everyday purposes the games look the same.

That pretty much sums it up.
