Wow seeing a Formula 1 car in mid air like that is impressive considering the lack of aerodynamic stability and designs back then. I saw that picture and immediately Colin McRae came to mind.

Very sad indeed. How ironic I was just reading an article on Autosport this morning regarding Jim Clark and the relationship between he and John Surtees.

I read online somewhere today that they are saying Hamilton's front wing broke BEFORE running into Alonso's car, and that's why Lewis cornholed him.GB_Simo wrote:I know, and that's my point - what they're saying instead, effectively, is, "Fernando didn't lift, there was no brake check. What that means is that our car lacks traction and our engine doesn't pull out of the corners anywhere near as well as that Mercedes does," which must surely have set the alarm bells ringing.Rodster wrote:Renault rubbished any thoughts of a brake check or lifting of the throttle by Alonso.
I dunno, the actualy piece of wing looked like it came off AFTER the hit, but who knows.
As for his start, they say Lewis accidently picked the wrong "program" in the car, which was the 'anti-stall' one.

I saw the race last night and it appeared Lewis lost his wing after the collision. And as for the poor start I read the same thing as well that he picked the wrong program. He also said he let his team down and that he just had his first bad day.Gangrel wrote:

He'll come back strong. So far three teams have looked strong in the first three races:
Week 1 - Goes to McLaren
Week 2 - Goes to Ferrari
Week 3 - Goes to Ferrari and BMW
Now it comes out that Hamilton actually lost a piece of his front wing on lap 1. You can actually see it flying off the car in this video, which I'm sure will be taken down by F1 management in just a matter of hours. It's at the 1:20 mark...

Grant, from what I've read, there'd been minor contact with Alonso early on lap one, which led to the piece of wing coming off. Given that he was able to stay near enough to Alonso to drive into him a lap later, either the Renault is genuinely awful or it wasn't a critical piece of wing.
Let's be clear, though, that their higher-profile coming together came about largely because Hamilton stuffed up. That missing bit of wing had nought to do with it.
Since it's still April 7th everywhere west of me, I wanted to post this picture of Jim Clark. A man who really could drive anything, driving a Lotus 49 to its twitchy, nervous limits at Silverstone and winning, as he generally did on a trouble-free afternoon:

Great shot of Jim Clark, Adam. I have a question for either you or PK. My conspiracy theory antennas have gone up.
Do you guys think Ron Dennis had anything to do with the newspaper finding out about Mosley's past? Briatore said last week that he thought the newspaper was tipped off that their wasn't any investigative work being done on Mosley and all of a sudden we find out about the sex scandal.
I bring up Dennis because of what happen last year and i'm sure there is no love lost between the two.
Oh well i'm bored while I wait for my computer to install Windows.

Jim Clark was my Dad's favorite racer of all time. I grew up a Jim Clark fan even though he had already died by the time I was old enough to know about him. Thankfully, GPL brought this era back to life with the demo that was released just around 10 years ago. RIP Jimmy.

No. I've tried to think of a longer answer, but...no.Rodster wrote:Do you guys think Ron Dennis had anything to do with the newspaper finding out about Mosley's past?
Not Ron's style, that, and it'd seem that he's had quite enough on his plate these last few months without having to orchestrate covert ops.

Edwards is happy as a clam, though. He's found new life as the team leader for Yamaha Tech 3. I'm interviewing him before every race for a feature called "Tornado Warning" at www.redbullindianapolisgp.com , and the "Texas Tornado" is a SUPER guy. As cool as they come.
Can Lorenzo finally convert one of these poles to victory? And what the hell is wrong with Ducati? No front-end grip, Stoner is complaining.
Eager for tomorrow's race!
Take care,
PK

Yeah Edwards is a fav of mine as well. You, would have to be cool to line up on the grid wearing an Elvis getup like he did last year and I forget which race it was. Hayden is also another cool guy as well. Hopkins comes across as an egotistical A-hole.
I'm sure Colin no doubt is glad to be far away from Rossi. Yeah what the hell has happened to Ducati all of a sudden. It has me puzzled as well.

Indeed, Rod.
Although the alarm bells should be ringing for the MotoGP class, in general. The 800cc regulations have led to much more processional races than the 990cc bikes.
The 2005 and 2006 seasons seemingly featured nip-and-tuck battles among four or five riders for the lead from lights out to checkered flag damn near every race. We've seen very little of that since the smaller engines were introduced last season.
Skeptics will point to the tight nature of the point standings and say how remarkable the racing has been. We heard the same thing last season in F1, which in reality was a very, very boring season of on-track action.
Championships are not mathematical equations. They're supposed to be hard-fought competitions on track.
I'm getting concerned.
Take care,
PK

Stoner says the onboard camera came loose and messed up his race. He says he may not have won but could have had a better result.
Stoner angry about camera problem
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/66618
The Ducati rider dropped down to 11th in the early stages as the camera interfered with his control of the bike, before later recovering to sixth place.
"The beginning of the race wasn't so good. I didn't have a good feeling when there was a bit of water," Stoner told Italia1 television.
"Then I started to have a better feeling, but unfortunately we had a problem with a Dorna camera - the box for the video camera was coming out and hitting my hand, and getting stuck in the clutch.
"So I'm very, very disappointed that something from Dorna, the organisers, was the cause of such a disappointment. I'm quite angry."
"I didn't know what it was and I was very afraid that the box was coming off and it was something important," he said.
"So I was trying to put it back in, and it would get in-between the steering and sometimes lock the clutch or lock the steering.

I think I have lost all respect for my favorite rider Valentino Rossi, "The Intern".
Let's see he b*tched about Edwards, Michelin and Yamaha. Now his rookie teammate is kicking his ass. Now he's being linked to a move to Kawasaki.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/66633
Kawasaki team boss Michael Bartholemy has played down suggestions that the Japanese squad are trying to hire Valentino Rossi for 2009.
Rossi's contract with Yamaha expires at the end of this season and the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper on Saturday quoted Bartholemy as saying Kawasaki were trying to hire the Italian rider after that.
"We are interested in Valentino, even though I've never spoken either to him or his manager. But I'd like to and soon, because this would be the perfect time," Bartholemy was quoted as saying.

Ha, a tiny bit careless, though I suspect they'll keep him in the car for Barcelona this weekend. Should be an interesting weekend, this one, being the first chance to see how the teams making major revisions to their cars will fare under race conditions. The race will likely be crucifyingly dull, as races in Barcelona tend to be, but I do like going into a weekend not knowing exactly where everyone stands.
It's looking a bit grim for Super Aguri, isn't it?

Too bad about Super Aguri. The team usually punched above its weight, and Aguri Suzuki seems to have a real love for the sport, much like Ron Dennis and Frank Williams.

These F1 cars aren't getting any more aesthetically pleasing, are they? Brundle's cry of, "Look out - it's those Honda front wings..." just about summed it up for me.
I wonder how much petrol hasn't gone into that Renault up at the front there. Either that, or it's a matter of guessing which month they've fuelled Piquet until.
ITV have just interviewed a visibly shocked Lewis Hamilton, who appears utterly baffled as to how his lap was only good enough for the third row.

I guess that ugly ass engine cover on that Renault is good for something.
Good for Alonso. That way he'll stay with Renault rather than poisoning another team with his cry baby approach when he doesn't get his way. As long as he doesn't come to Ferrari i'm happy. Go Kimi !
Wrt Lewis it's the sophomore jinx mate, he'll be fine.

That was a superb final session. What a lap by Alonso in a car that has no business being on the front row. He's a petulant dick, but man, can he drive a race car.
Hamilton's body language when he exited the car in parc ferme says it all -- he's disgusted and befuddled. Alonso was excellent at developing a car, a bonus that McLaren clearly misses this year with the inexperienced driver pairing of Hamilton and Kovalainen.
Just look at Piquet -- do you think the kid just discovered speed to earn a spot in Q3 today? I doubt it. Alonso clearly is working some strong magic with car development at Renault.
Take care,
PK
