A batter can advance on a third strike with first base occupied if there are two outs. This is the only circumstance under which i've seen this happen but i also have lowered my passed ball slide pretty signficantly so I'm not saying at all that what you have seen is not in fact a bug as you may have more missed third strikes than i have.

Edit: Just so you know i'm not full of sh**

6.09
The batter becomes a runner when --
(a) He hits a fair ball;
(b) The third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or
(2) first base is occupied with two out

LOL...I guarantee I've missed more 3rd strikes than you!

I honestly don't remember how many outs there were last night...so I can't say for certain if there were 2 outs or not, but I'm fairly confident there weren't any. But most likely there were 2 and I'm just seeing things.

I also didn't know about that rule...it's good to know. Thanks.

Also, with that rule....if the bases are loaded, two outs and the third strike is dropped you can just tag home plate for the final out. :D

Well, everything's been on hold for me with the game as I'd been away on vacation. So I get home and go to start a season on HOF and am welcomed by a nice WTF moment.

The first batter I am about to face in my NYY season is B. J. Ryan. Apparently his elbow rehab is going so well that the Jays have decided to bat him leadoff as their starting SS. I'm not sure exactly where to go from here. Maybe I'll restart the season and hope it doesn't happen again, but I'd be pretty miffed to get far into a season and find something like this crop up.

EDIT:

Actually, top to bottom their lineup is pretty FUBAR. Here it is, for giggles:

SS Ryan
RF Eckstein
CF Rios
DH Wells
3B Thomas
1B Rolen
LF Overbay
C Reed Johnson
2B Zaun

That's bizarre to say the least game7. Ryan is not supposed to be ready for another month or so and definitely not as SS, and R. Johnson was released too the day they came up with the last update last monday.

Yeah, I came to realize that the game dumps loaded rosters frequently when exiting game modes so I was inadvertently using the default roster set. Still, that lineup was wacky to say the least. Restarted with the correct roster set and things are looking much better.

I'm ten games towards the twenty I promised myself I'd play before mucking around with sliders. 10-0 with the Mets, batting .346 with an ERA of 2.00. There are some games that are somewhat competitive, but I always feel like I'll be ahead after 9 innings. Meh.

Slumber, i know you said you were 10 games away from slider hell, but when you're ready i would try what are labeled "Perfect Sliders 1.0" online. They were posted from someone over at OS. I have tried Sky's, Nemesis', and my own, and these are a very good combination of all of those. Through four games i have really enjoyed them. And the best part, I have purposefully pitched with Beckett twice as he was dominant with every other set, and he has had a No Decision in a 9-8 win versus San Diego and a 3-2 loss against the Blue Jays.

From a selfish note i'd be curious to see if they alter what i imagine are a dominant Santana and Martinez for your Mets.

Apparently the March 31st roster update is out. Approximately 195 moves listed but it is still missing a couple of rookies (Fukodome, Nix, some others) which should be included in next week's update. Sadly i can't wait anymore. My season starts tonight.

Do you have to load your rosters every time you want to play a game against the cpu or does it automatically load? Thanks in advance. :D

Drifted to the bottom of page two, I see. What's up, MLB!?

Curious to hear further experiences from people. I started a franchise with the Rays, using some settings that Brian from SCEA recommended for increased difficulty and more walks as opposed to hits:

CPU Power +6
CPU Hit Quality +6
Pitch Speed +3
Human Timing Window -6
Human Hit Quality -4
Human Plate Vision -4
Pitch Count +4

The Rays are fun, sort of suited to the overall too-easy nature of this game, and I like being an interloper in the AL East, but I still hit the ball a little too well with these settings (.350 team average, 15 hits a game with exceptions). I want more walks and less hits, dammit. Both ways. There's talk at OS about the pitch control sliders being backwards or some sh*t like that, the kind of stuff that drives me fricking batty.

I'll probably start another Mets 'chise once they get the accessories problem ironed out of the latest roster update, and maybe go back to my old super-charged settings for CPU. I got scared away from them when Brian said maxing out sliders would have unwanted side effects, but until he comes out and says exactly what those are... eh. I miss being REALLY afraid of hitters.

It ends up on the bottom of the pile because it's a fantastic game. We don't need to discuss all of the patches and roster updates because we already got the roster update and there isn't a need for a patch. That's all they can talk about in the 2k8 thread since it's a mess.

Agreed. I started my Cubs dynasty over on All-Star defaults with classic pitching. First game against the Brewers, I lost 4-2 with pretty nice results. I walked 4 with Carlos Zambrano in 6 innings, including a walk of Ben Sheets. I have a couple house rules that help me throw more walks:

1) I always have to move the stick to aim. No grooving down the middle.
2) If my catcher calls for a breaking ball on ball 3, I have to throw that pitch.

The first one makes baseball sense, the last one is a bit of a crutch but makes walks more of a factor. It's made pitching more enjoyable for me.

I was thinking the same thing. We're like a bunch of crybabies who have FINALLY been given a decent pacifier.

In my Tribe season I'm something like 25-28, battling the White Sox for second place, 14 games behind Detroit. All Star level, default settings.

It took until game 46 of my season before I saw the walk-off homer scoring glitch. It said I lost 10-9, I really lost 11-9. No big deal.

Still haven't seen an outfielder make an error though, me or the CPU.

After a ton of PS2 games, I'm noticing that the hitting kind of tones down over the course of a season. About 20 games in, my average is under .280 with contact at zero.

The errors are screwed up, without question. I've seen one in the last 50 games or so. This is one area that may not be perfect on the PS3, but is definitely better than the PS2.

There's not many errors at all,but I've seen a couple that didn't get counted as such,as well.Beyond that,I don't have any issues with the game.

ohhhhh did the The Show 08 people get mad since nobody is talking about it :)

Well after playing 2k, It's really hard to go back to the show. yes it's a fantastic game, but 2k gives you so much control on the outcome, it's almost like you're more watching than playing with the show. If I just had the Show and no 2k, i'd be happy. But 2k offers so much user interaction, it's hard to go back.

Let the pissing match being..........

That and the fact that the game's basic gameplay has been largely the same for three years, so it's been pretty talked out. Not necessarily a bad thing, though. They got a lot right from the start.
