MLB 2K8 interview

Aftre getting my 360 back from RROD hiatus, I have spent the last 3 days putting MLB2K8 through its paces and I have to say I am really excited about baseball again.
While I haven't played MLB 08 on the PS3 (I have it for the PS2 and have played it often the last 2 weeks), I feel that baseball gameplay is going to the next level with 2K8.
The level of immersion in pitching, fielding and hitting is impressive.
The atmosphere in the ballpark is terrifc, I actually feel like I am playing in the ballpark and the stadiums are gorgeous.
The animations, especially in the field, are incredible....backhand flips, momentum based fielding...lots of small bobbles and an infielder knocking the ball down with his chest before barehanding a throw...awesome!!!
Catchers blocking 3rd strikes in the dirt and throwing to first for the out,....AWESOME!
Balls bouncing in front of the catchers and barely snagging the extra base...AWESOME!!!!
The feel of hitting...AWESOME!!!
My only quibbles:
It is hard to see the ball when it gets to the crowd on foul balls.
The pticher holds the ball to long in the stretch...they need to vary the stretch.
The CPU offense is to potent at times...once they get on a rolll they are hard to stop.
Pitchers need to throw more balls.
The strike zone is a tad to big...especially on the corners.
All in all I love where 2K is headed and if the patch fixes a few issues, this could be my all time favorite.

I have to agree with everything you said. In MLB2K8, you are actually PLAYING the game rather than watching things playout.pigpen81 wrote:Aftre getting my 360 back from RROD hiatus, I have spent the last 3 days putting MLB2K8 through its paces and I have to say I am really excited about baseball again.

I am doing really bad at the game, I think my overall record is something like 14-32.
You're right about the CPU Offense once it gets on a roll. But it doesn't have to do w/ the CPU but more with your pitcher confidence. I need to fool around with that but what I've been doing is if the cpu is getting something going, I'll do a mound visit to calm the pitcher down. but I think they overdid the pitcher confidence because if your pitcher starts giving up 1 or more hits, the cpu will just kill him for that inning. Haven't messed w/ sliders but maybe there's one for that.
I got to also agree about the stadiums. they did a great job with the sense of actually playing at a mlb ballpark. maybe watching the espn game tonight at the new nats field is making me realize this. I've gone back on my hitting now. After being successfull w/ the new tip, now i'm pretty bad again.
Game is excellent and the framerate doesn't even bother me anymore.
You are right about the CPU getting on a roll. My only concern about the CPU offense is that it seems like most of their run production is via the long ball. Maybe it is the teams I am playing against, but they don't seem to manufacture many runs. Conversely, I have to move runners over, bunt, hit sac flies to score.
I have tweaked sliders for the CPU throwing balls, and they will walk you if you are patient, but I still swing wildly. I think I am going to lower pitch speed so I can recognize pitches a little better.

Piggy...welcome to the club! The folks that overreacted at the frame rate problem when it first came out are really missing out on a fun game!pigpen81 wrote:Aftre getting my 360 back from RROD hiatus, I have spent the last 3 days putting MLB2K8 through its paces and I have to say I am really excited about baseball again.

About walks...make all the "AI Throws Strkes" sliders zero and you will get walks. I get 2-4 per game. The strike zone IS too big, but you get used to it. The Umps DO call pitches on the black balls sometimes. Also, use the "Aerial" camera. It's a little harder to field ground balls, but after getting used to it, you will love that view. Also, for hitting, try the "Wide or Wide-zoom" cameras....it seems to make it easier to tell balls from strikes.
I don't see this is an issue either.... I see plenty of balls thrown by the cpu. I would walk more if I had any patience, but still get 2-3 per game. Someone at OS suggested leaving Inside Edge on for CPU pitching to get more balls thrown. It does make a difference.JackB1 wrote:

I am really loving this game. Currently I am 8-4 in my season and have had a variety of different types of games. There is a tremendows amount of hit variety as well, and you do feel like you have full control over the aspects of the game.

For me it's not HR's. It's those balls in the gaps that the cpu gets doubles off of me. I think the HRs are pretty realistic in this game. It's not like last year where there were too many.Pete wrote:You are right about the CPU getting on a roll. Well, I'm finally a member of the 360 owners club. I jumped in! And it feels great.
I picked up MLB 2K8 and so far, have played three games. It's my first next gen experience, and I'm thrilled. After all the backlash this game received on OS, I was bracing myself for a real turd.
But surprise, I like the game. A lot. It's a blast to play!

I've picked off the CPU once, but i've never been picked off.
And the patch is now supposed to drop tomorrow. According to the mod on 2ksports, his contact at MS told him the patch was "probably delayed due to the server maintenance".....
If you want to see some negativity, check out the 2ksports boards, lol.

2k says on their forums that the rosters will be "a week or two" because of waiting for people to play, sign with the MLBPA, etc etc. That also includes the time MS needs to "certify" things.
I've always wondered why MS needs to certify rosters?!?
I'm hoping the patch comes out today too, just for the sake of people at 2ksports. If it isn't out, I think some of the more.... "impolite" posters on their board might riot at 2K LA.
