MLB 08 Season
Anyone watched the opener in Japan? DM's debut in his hometown was shaky but Manny came thru for the Champs in the end.
I don't see many changes in the American Eastern division. BOS and NYY will be 1-2 again, while the Jays will hang around third. Already two key players in S. Rolen and B.J Ryan (still recuperating from last years' surgery) will miss the 1st month of the season.

If the Nats can get some starting pitching, I think they will surprise this year.
Until the usual injury bug hits, and they have to use 13 different starters or whatever ridicolous number was last year.
I'm interested to see what Willy Mo can do in a full year (well, after he comes back from the DL) and what the fuss is over Milledge........

As long as the Red Sox have to deal with the jet lag I'm all for it. Next year, I say make it a 4 game series between the Sox and the Yanks and then make both teams come home to Western road trips!sportdan30 wrote:I guess I'm a traditionalist, but playing the opener in Japan I agree is ridiculous. Seriously though, it is ridiculous.
I'm with you Dan.sportdan30 wrote:I guess I'm a traditionalist, but playing the opener in Japan I agree is ridiculous. MLB imo continues to make poor decisions.
I did read where there will be 88 Cardinal games in HD, including the opener!!! I have an HD Fox Sports MW on my dish, so I hope that's it!

As do I. It's such a better viewable experience when baseball is in HD. I am surprised that there's only 88 games in HD however. I wonder if that number includes KSDK's weekend games? If it doesn't, then you're looking at around 20 games more in HD.MizzouRah wrote:I'm with you Dan.sportdan30 wrote:I guess I'm a traditionalist, but playing the opener in Japan I agree is ridiculous. Probably doesn't count those. I wonder when channel 11 will go HD?sportdan30 wrote:As do I. It's such a better viewable experience when baseball is in HD. Honestly, after watching a channel in HD (say, sportscenter), I can't watch it in SD anymore.

I wonder if they're doing what the Tribe did last year, for "technical reasons" only the home games and a few choice road series (like BOS and NYY) were in HD.sportdan30 wrote: I am surprised that there's only 88 games in HD however.
This year however, for the first time, *ALL* the Tribe games are in HD, home and away!

WGN and Comcast are saying all Cubs games, home and away are being broadcast in HD this season.
Seminole, I think the Reds will suprise this season. Dusty has had good seasons his first seasons with the Giants and Cubs. Its the years that follow that are a problem. Expect a slow start and a good 2nd half.
I suspect the Cubs will win a suprisingly tough NL Central. Brewers made a lot of changes to their troubled bullpen from last year to go with a good everyday lineup. Experts pick the Cards to have a down year, but as a Cubs fan, I never count them out. Houston will have a tough lineup as long as Tejada doesn't get suspended, but they really don't have anyone to back up Oswalt in the rotation. The Pirates are gritty and I like Sanchez, Bay, and LaRoche.
Predictions:
NL Cubs, Mets, Dodgers, Phils WC
AL BoSox, Tigers, Angels, Yanks WC
Rematch of 1945 WS Cubs vs Tigers. (Yes the koolaid flows deep in the household.)

Watched the Blues game last night on Fox Sports MW in HD, so it's good news for us Cardinal fans!!
Why are these two teams playing a one game series? Just for the Sunday night opener? Wouldn't it have made more sense to move the Nationals/Phillies series up one day?dbdynsty25 wrote:
The real opener isn't till Sunday...Braves @ Nationals to open thier new park on ESPN SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL. Damn...I got half a chub there. Easy buddy.

I'm fairly certain MLB thought the Braves would be a bigger draw nationally. That's the only conclusion that I could come up with. Well, that and the fact that the Nationals have like 15 former Braves in camp right now.icvu42 wrote:Why are these two teams playing a one game series? Just for the Sunday night opener?
